@@DepressedRussian im in australia, and im depressed, yes its a 1st world country but the cost of living is very high, im a cab driver, i work 80 hours a week, i work 6 days a week, come home eat and sleep, thats my life, i havent been out for many years, most of my money goes on rent and food and petrol,i dont smoke drink or gamble, a pack of cigarettes here cost $30 for a pack of 20 cigarettes, a small apartment cost $400/week rent, there is very little left, all my bills go up every few months but my pay is the same as 10years ago, its very depressing here unless you have a very good job, at least in russia you earn little but the prices are little, thats why im thinking of moving to a country like vietnam or phillipines or thailand, because in a few yrs i wont be able to make ends meet at all,

I know some russians too and i was born and raised in a socialist country too - east germany. And OUR history was not that different from that of Russia, they had a Tsar, we had an Emperor, they had Stalin, we had Hitler, they lost millions in both world wars, we lost millions in both world wars. But russians are still ten times more cynical then germans, don't ask me why. It's like they are all 100% nihilists. Thats why the sanctions won't work. They are already so used to poverty that these sanctions don't affect them much. It's nearly impossible to defeat such countries. That's why the west spend billions and 20 years on Afghanistan and the Taliban took over again within one day. They have literally nothing to lose.

Well said LaPanda. Life is the best teacher….let’s just do a quick recap…Lesson 1: The grass always seems greener on the other side…but as we know from life’s lessons it’s not. Let’s do the same “cost of living exercise” in another country….the result is pretty much the same…i’ve lived, worked, and studied on 5 continents in 11 countries (not counting countries that i went on vacation 😉) so i’m speaking from first hand experience…so listen to LaPanda’s words of wisdom and stop wasting your time and life…it’s not easy anywhere, especially these days….in Russia you at least have heat, fuel, and food (yes i know your prices increased) unlike many places that have empty shelves…that’s REAL POVERTY, when you have money but there’s nothing to buy…Russia is a 1000 times better now than it was during Soviet times or even during Yeltsin…you may not believe it but there are many people in the USA, Germany and other Western countries that are seriously interested in immigrating to Russia.

And these shelves were COMPLETELY empty, i.e. in the grocery store you could only buy vinegar ... and that was only 30 years ago. Then we were under Soviet rule and when we freed ourselves in 2-3 years, a lot has changed and many things have become easier, so I don't miss those times. But now it's not that simple - especially for people who don't earn much. I suppose our standard of living is similar to that in the cities of Russia, because I listen to Russian bloggers who have moved to Poland. Only better order is here and more independance. But whether we are happy depends only on us, not what we have. Will we be happy with the next pair of Prada shoes if we don't have friends or family? Will we be happy in a world where to meet someone you have to make an appointment a week ahead at the pub instead of just coming to their house like we used to be? Would it make us happier to go on an all-inclusive holiday and be bored by the pool while drinking a drink because that's how it should be? Or was it better to go camping with friends to the river bank and drink cheap wine, talk all night and laugh? As a Pole, I understand Russians. We have the same Slavic soul, mentality, dishes, faith and we believe in the tradition, the strength of the community and the conservative world order. And we smile when we want, not when it is appropriate. Poland is on the border between the cultures of the East and the West, so it is more orderly than Russia and people think more independently. Russians should too. But not everything that glitters in western world is cool.

Its interesting thing about Slavs and smiling. I noticed that we Balkan Slavs (Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia, North Macedonia) smile more in average than other Slavs. Maybe it's like this because we drink Rakija, while other Slavs drink Vodka. Who knows 😂
