Right now counts forever because God is in control of all things. He has created a moral universe in which our actions have consequences both now and forever. God can do all things, and none of His purposes can be thwarted (Job 42:2). In this session, Dr. Derek Thomas reminds us that this knowledge is cause for holy reverence, awe, and peace as we acknowledge God’s work in our lives and in the lives of others. He is the sovereign God, Creator of heaven and earth, and He reigns over His creation in glory and splendor.

Thank you Pastor Thomas. We all want ease & easy answers. That's just not how God is. We have to accept it and do our very best to trust God's choices & reason.

Too often I have thought of the providence of God being equal to the benevolence of God. And while that may or may not be true, I've always colored it with good things in the human sense. I too often forget simple things: God is eternal. He has saved me and made me have eternal life. To live with Him in all His glory and praise Him for it for all eternity, there is MUCH work that God must do in me. And most of it will be things I don't understand. I'm starting off with the understanding in Philippians 2:14 - looking back at Numbers 16. I don't want to keep on grumbling about every little thing in this world that I think is "wrong" forgetting that My LORD and GOD is in charge and is on His Throne determining everything that happens. I want to remember that first and foremost. Since GOD is GOD He therefore knows what He is doing. Trust is so important as a believer - trust in Him. May we all learn that well. (I love the book of Job too, and yes, admittedly am also a Celt. Thank God He gave us Job.)

„Has not my hand made ALL things, and so they came into being?“ declares the Lord. „This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.“ Isa. 66:2. Thank you for your most encouraging sermon on the PROVIDENCE of God Almighty!! What a privilege to virtually partake in this excellent conference! God bless you all who make this possible !! Greetings from Switzerland.

It's fairly simple to rationalize difficulty when we've disobeyed the commands of Scripture. Of course we deserve chastening. But what of the times when "good" things are lost-our health, a marriage, a child, the wealth we've worked so diligently to acquire--all while walking in faithfulness to God? It is then the Book of Job is most necessary. Does our Redeemer really live?

I believe Job is fiction and not at all profound. I've been suffering almost 7 decades. The reason we is because we suffer, deal with it.

I cannot agree, Job was a complete and upright man as God repeatedly states. Job would certainly die of grief if he did not have his questions answered. He was a good man, a perfect and righteous man in the eyes of God. God say's that Job spoke correctly and his 'friends' were wrong. Every commentator dumps on Job. No need, Job perfectly and humbly, but wrongly, dumps on himself. God loved Job's questions, Job had to ask those questions, and god was not rebuking Job at all. He was informing Job with affection and humour. Why else would he say that Job spoke rightly? Every commentator seems to miss this though it is as plain as sunshine. How could a perfect man who eschewed evil be wrong? Are you saying that God is a liar? This is why God say's that Job was perfect, or complete, several times, yet it always the same refrain with nearly every commentator - Job sinned or did something wrong. No, no no!!! God, it seems to me, appointed satans and devils to stand at the end of the assembly line with a blowtorch, a sledge hammer and a scatter gun just to check out the quality of the merchandise before it goes on to the shelves of the shop. God wants us to trust Him, but He also wants us to understand it all.

Biblical interpretation 101: Context, context, context. In an ultimate sense, of course Job was a sinful man. The point is that his trials were NOT a direct result of any particular sin but rather an avenue to real hope, not simply a hope in his plentiful circumstances.

So God demonstrates his sovereignty by giving up a "blameless man" to Satan to do as he wishes (like a cat when it plays with a mouse), The Book of Job (if it is to be believed) suggests that God and Satan are and continue to be poker players with humans as their poker chips. Dreadful nonsense to be fed to children,

The irony is that you are the one with the mind of a child. Your entire comment is that of a 13-14 year old that is arguing with your parent about something you don’t like because you are intellectual unable to understand things in the bigger picture. The book of Job only makes sense when you look not at your own momentary situation but look instead at the whole of existence from beginning to eternity.

@@emilykelly7453You begin by comparing my mind to that of a 13-14 year old. When did you become an expert regarding the behavior and thinking of 13-14 year olds? Your respnse is typical of someone who is prone to conjecture when you make universal propositions devoid of evidence. I offered an opinion that appears to have "rattled" you. Perhaps that's why (as so many of your persuassion do), you esort to "browbeaating". Very childish on your part. Thanks for you reply.

@@alfrazz1799 your frivolous attempt at using a more refined vocabulary doesn’t suddenly change your childish behavior in your previous comment. Nice try though. The irony, again, is that while trying to discredit the one who called you out for your childish antics, you AGAIN act like a child and do the very thing you’re accusing me of. It honestly doesn’t get any goofier than that.

@@emilykelly7453 My, dear Emily, "thou protests to much". By the way, resorting to capitalizing a word (AGAIN) to emphasize a point is thoroughly childish on your part. It's not a lack of refined vocabulary that defines you, it's your "petulant" silliness. Rather than engaging in a dialogue like an adult, you act like a silly child having a tantrum. Honestly, take a chill pill before you blow your "goofey gasket" Be well and thanks for your reply.
