Your right, most of us don't have anything or anyone waiting on the outside. Gate money thats it. I was on the same yard as as this guy, Michael Thompson. Never kicked it with him as we were on different teams. For sure he was a hog but a lot of his stories are excessively exaggerated. Well, no reason for writing other than to give you your props.

Amen to that. The way he speaks conveys a calm tone. One of a Wise Man or very much the part of the Sage but he's also one hell of a warrior as well. I don't know what could be frightening than being pitted in a knifefight against an opponent who's going to absolutely try to kill you because he's in the same boat as you and then having guards firing on you in the process of fighting is just so enthralling that he takes you there. I can picture the knife dance. Just amazing. I'd love to just sit and listen to him. I envy his inner peace although as someone with PTSD and other mental health issues I can very much understand the Sensory Overload Mike speaks of in today's world as I suffer with that every day when I leave the house and even in my own house. I've never been to prison and I've never been arrested for a crime in my life. I hope I never am because I couldn't ever do any knife dancing at my age. Plus I'm too sick and dying I don't want to die there.

Wow. After 45 years of imprisonment to see Mike be able to be so open and speak fluently and very well re tell the stories of his life and answer questions is very tremendous indeed. I really love to listen to him speak. He almost reminds me of a Wise Man in an Aboriginal Peoples Tribe or a Wise Sage in a group of scholars. He speaks as though he's givng a discourse into an ugly place and speaking beautifully even about the bad and the ugly sides of Prison and I especially love his insight about having to Dance with knives against another man. How your fight is a dance and you need to keep moving and keep fighting to avoid being shot or stabbed was beautifully said. It gave me an image in my mind I won't forget and I hope I never have to serve a day in prison nevermind 45 years. Tremendous Guest. I loved his first appearance as well. Yeah bro, me too. I've actually seen a few of the og's that were on the early shows, like MSNBC lock up. They are now hitting KZfaq and doing interviews from prison, halfway houses or from the free world. The homeboy from Fresno his name's Cornejo that was on msnbc is on Story's written by a current prisoner on KZfaq now. He tried to bullshit us a lil bit I think in the beginning. But he cleared it up. I remember their stories, charges & interviews like they were yesterday. So the ones that try to change their story up now... They just get cancelled. They don't know how fast a 10 year old girl in her own bedroom, can fact check the shit they say.

Michael is such an intelligent thoughtful guy. As fucked up as prison is and for all the things he’s had to go through it’s amazing he has come out so level headed. I’m sure his spirituality helps with that. I wish him nothing but success in his future and I really hope law enforcement leaves him alone he’s in his 70s he’s done enough time he should be aloud to live in peace. It’s funny cause I watched a program where a former DA known for being a hard line DA who would sentence people to incredible amounts of time: he later got busted for fraud and embezzlement and was sentenced to 30 years. He was interviewed in prison after doing a few years in prison and said if he knew how hard it was to do real time in jail he would have never sentenced people to as much time in prison as he had. I believe in order to sentence someone to prison time you should have done time yourself to know how difficult it is to have you freedoms taken and through in a cage.

Yes yes empathy is a fine thing...if it is based upon common experience so much the better...but the reality is is that's just not practical in this universe. Quite a few members of the judiciary ought to be on the receiving end of the system they enforce enthusiastically when they've no chance of receiving rather than dispensing "JUSTICE" and I wish we wouldn't pretend that justice has much (If indeed anything at all) to do with it yea even today when we ought to have learned very well that it certainly does not. Hypocrisy offends me; Michael has an admirable absence thereof which is refreshing...and how bad is it that it's illustrated by a guy who'd not be credited with any positive qualities by many people...ghastly judgemental hypocritical "good Christian pillars of society" types of people. In all honestly I could listen to Michael all day every day, it's unbelievable how intelligent he is and what's really amazing is the fact that after spending almost half a century in some of the hardest and worst prisons on this planet that he has kept his sanity and is now more than giving back to society in every positive way that is possible for one person to do,I will without doubt be getting in touch with Michael to seek his advice in helping me to beat my serious addiction problem that has plagued me almost 30 years and turned my life into a living hell, wouldn't it be great if our politicians and governments had the same way of thinking as Michael does would make our world a lot safer peaceful and beautiful as it should be many thanks and best wishes Shaun and Michael as ye are both doing so much for us with your words of wisdom ,👍🇮🇪☘️

How can you say “god bless” while saying you like something that if that god exists would send you to hell for? Does anyone these days actually take the time to learn religions? Not a god to be fucking around with if it/he were real. All of its scriptures make it clear that other religions are to be destroyed along with their believers if they refuse to convert. Which also explains pretty much everything Christians and Muslims did for well over 1000 years. But now, after millennia of wiping out other religions and cultures we have people taking the god and somehow separating him from the scripture that establishes his existence and calling it spirituality or simply just ignoring the scripture and ridiculously claiming it’s all peaceful and moral when even most ancient people would find it disturbing. Why would god bless people who praise his name and then ignore all of his laws and commandments and lie about what “his word” says?

What a wonderful turn of life: he has a fortune of experience that can keep thousands out of trouble. He is really a powerful individual; especially now that he has learned personal efficacy and is staying on his feet: he is a force for good to be reckoned with; he has all the credentials doubting Thomas's like to see. May God bless him for his good works and keep his adversaries from doing any harm to him or his loved ones.

Ok, maybe he wasn’t in Gen Pop. However, I vividly remember him walking outside in the yard with other inmates. That was my assumption. He was in Gen pop. Due to the relaxed nature. I suppose it could have been any number of other labels. Either way. It’s still prison and couldn’t have been fun. Especially imagining how you claim your initial innocence and still end up having to spend a lifetime in their. The man’s story is amazing. And we can all take something from it. Personally, I connected with his sense of integrity and honor. A real man will often set himself a set of codes to operate on. This man did so with the focus and discipline of a true warrior. Even in battle. He chooses to let the man live. Even would it have been all too easy to dispatch him. Not only did his words and actions resonate with me. It reminded me of the way I was raised. Young men and women these days are often not blessed with the same upbringing of lessons and discipline as they once were. Most people have zero respect for one another, nor do they have any real set of codes or principals do operate with. For a man to be so humble after all he’s endured. Is not only inspiring. It’s also providing the greater public a chance to reflect on how they treat/view people with criminal records or time served within the prison system. Inevitably leading to a change in social, justice and economic reforms for changing America’s broken prison and criminal justice systems.

Damn! I didn’t think he’d be back on so fast. Well done Shaun. This guys a damn legend for simply living thru 45years of wild shit and being able to tell about it. Some people are just survivors I suppose. This ole fella ooozes wisdom sooo many in todays culture could stand to listen to and apply in their lives. Edit- To his question what I think about incarceration and what it has become? …. It’s become big business, and a business that pulls from the less educated and unfortunate populous that comes up having to fall in line with this way of thinking in the neighborhoods they grow up in. It’s a pipeline. This entire concept goes back to the 1920’s, and 30’s and Henry Anslinger.

you need to change your post, to read: "Damn! I didn't think he'd be back IN so fast. MT was re-arrested a year ago and is waiting for trial. His "incredible" story, probably loosely based on fact, is now a fraud. He stole hundreds of thousands from newly released inmates, who used MT company services to assist them with unemployment. MT, assuming he gets convicted, is a great-big scammer!!

Go's back even further than the 1920s ever since they could get free labour off of incarceration someone. You are right it's a big business. My Pops would tell some of my friend's that used to go in and out of prison/jail that they are just a # on you the system and privit system's making money off incarceration! I think the only reason they are letting so many people out is because it's costing more money to house prisoner's than to let them out on the street's. It's not safe for the public but these politicians don't give a crap about regular folks. They have there body guards and a wall around there Marsions! Like Mike said the regular folks should be warn in a town/city meeting. To be aware of all around you. Like he said when he first got out in L.A. in a half way house a few people got shot and killed where he was at. I'm in the bay area of California and I understand what Mike is saying and other Guys are saying when they got out doing year's in Prison that they don't want to for nothing. Just like Mike said a glass of water with ice Ocean water and sand at the feet just little thing's that we take for granted can all be taken away for year's or life...from anyone of us.

The PTSD from being in prison is very real and the longer you're in the longer it takes for your mind to cope and heal! I served about 3 years in a state penitentiary and probably took about 8 years where I wasn't having nightmares of being in there anymore and now very seldomly I have nightmares of that but that was in 2002! So I'm assuming Mr Thompson is going to have quite the journey ahead of him my hats off to you though bud you have been to hell and back!!!
