I played and replayed this song so much as a 12 year old girl in my bedroom, I can actually still hear the click of the buttons on my walkman and sound of the tape rewinding at the end of the song now, almost 30 years later 😂 thank you for this beautiful song 💕

Same. My first music player Walkman with Sony headphones. Good times, always brought it with plenty of CDs in long car rides. I can completely relate to the rewind breaks because I scratched the CD too much.

I know she got me through many hard times! One of the things I hated about her 1st label was the fact that they said she wasn't "black" enough for urban radio. What?!? If only the industry would stop trying to pigeonhole our talent. Unfortunately, her career took a hit when she sue (and won) both Janet Jackson and Beyonce, who are the darlings of their respective eras. She's been underrated since she came on the scene, but those of us who fell in love with her vocals and laid back soulfulness will always keep her alive. Without her contribution to music, some of our "neo-soul" artists wouldn't have been given a platform to be free to put out music in their unique styles!

@@traostewart19 She went through some very personal and painful issues. She developed stage fright and a phobia of flying for starters, as well as becoming a caregiver to her ailing mother. I'll try to get the KZfaq link and post for you.

I've been looking for this song longer than I'd like to admit but I couldn't get it out of my head. I only remembered fragments of the lyrics so looking it up that way didn't help either. I was so desperate that I just sang the melody to a webpage and here I am!

I remember when I bought her cassette in 1995 and this was one of my favorite songs on it next to You Gotta Be. I miss the 90's so much. I wish she'd return and make more music. She is gorgeous and gives the best advice in her songs. Miss her. 💕💕

90s music was just different. There was some gritty stuff playing but also a mix of songs like this that made people know that love is possible and real.

Sorry to be contradictory but this song and her music in general was NOT much accepted on black radio. Yes, she received awards but it got very little airplay. Radio stations started a deep descent that has not stopped to this very day (2023)

I disagree. I like both songs. They just sound like two song that happen to sound similar.Like all eras of music there are similarities but if got 3M then so be it. She also sued Beyonce and won!

I always heard this song on Power 106 in Jamaica back in the 90s but never knew it was her and never knew it was from the early 90s. The pop acts of the era drowned out a lot of treasures. She definitely created a timeless treasure in this song and video.

Yes I said the same thing. My mom listened to a lot of Anita Baker back in the 90's when I was kid. I soaked it all up then. And now at 31, I'm listening to the same music.

@@stevensonjc21, it absolutely was NOT on the soundtrack. 🙄The song to which she might be referring is "Up Against the Wind," which (a) was also not on the soundtrack but in the film; (b) NOT sung by Des'ree; (c) sung by Lori Perry (or Perri).

That soundtrack was FANTASTIC. Literally every song placement was in the perfect scene. My favorite three are bone thugs, En vogues biggest career hit Don’t Let Go and Brandy, Chaka, Gladys & Tamias fanFUCKINGtastic posse cut ‘Missing You’ - just, three perfect 90s hits, all on ONE soundtrack. That soundtrack should’ve been big like The Bodyguard if I’m being honest
