My Sarasota HOA is saying these rules do not apply to them and they are grandfathered into the old rules. They are very inconsistent in enforcing rules, have no plan or procedures to enforce the rules, and seem to selectively enforce the rules. let me know if you want more information

Did not go far enough. I've bought multiple homes in FL and would not even look at anything under an HOA. A realtor sent us to a property and the listing rep was nice, but when we heard it was HOA covered we politely thanked her and left immediately. She understood. We then stopped working with the realtor that sent us over when she said she figured if we loved it enough we'd stop caring about the HOA. She hilariously thought the fees were the thing we didn't like.

They acted because it started to affect politicians.

HOA takes the money and don't do anything on the properties. I've been living in an HOA for the past five years and the irrigation system has not work properly even when the builder was in charge. When the new HOA took over, they said there was barely no money transfer from the previous HOA (builder). The new HOA should of not take over until if was fixed. Now, we have the grass and plants dying because there is no water. They use a cloud to turn it on but that doesn't work. It might show on their end that is working but is not. They need to replace that system. Where is the money that people pay to get things fix? The government should eliminate that stupid HOA. It is useless. Where I live, people who sell their homes have to pay $1,500 to HOA after they sell the property. Why? The government needs to stop this nonsense...just get rid of it. Stop giving these useless people power over it. They're stealing money.😡😡😡😡

Thank You Mr. Governor, honestly HOA are run by people that have too much time on their hands and nitpick everything that is off in the neighborhood they tend to pick on the older sick people. They hire the worst companies ever to work on your lawns. Our HOA does not cover anything except to cut the grass in the common areas and to take care of the pool and still have the nerve to charge us $508 every quarter, we have to cut our own palm trees. We have to rebuild our own fences. We have to do all the painting on our homes out of pocket.We have to take care of all of our roofing by ourselves. It is so unfair, especially in today’s economy for seniors like me that have to deal with HOA’s as bad as ours, they don’t care if three people who are renting next to you move in and it turns into a freaking circus of 12 people, who own 6 yrs cars on a already tiny street!!!!! I think Governor DeSantis should eliminate all HOA‘s and let the homeowners take care of their homes by themselves be able to choose their own colors for their homes were basically doing all the repair work outside the home ourselves. I am the taxpayer on my home I pay the mortgage on my home. Why should they dictate what color I choose for my front door or my garage door why can’t I put a pretty driveway in, they also decided in a so-called meeting to eliminate Comcast as our cable company leaving us with nothing. Most of us were fortunate enough to go out and get smart TVs and now we have to pay Netflix Hulu, etc. they did not refund us for this myself as a football fan paid for the NFL network in advance, I could not get a refund for by Comcast Was that they did this homeowners because of my homeowners are stuck in bed

Due something to put a cap on home rentals! I’ve lived here 40 years, I know can’t afford to live in this state. Rents have skyrocketed. Land and home prices have skyrocketed as well! Seniors, vets, disabled. They don’t care.

A friend lived in a HOA in Marion County. This was few years back during a drought with a mandatory water use ban. He was find for not watering his lawn.

Only time I've ever seen an HOA do any good was in the rent increase area. Ours was only allowed max 4 percent. It never was 4 percent. Trailer park in NJ. Rent before i left was $750 a month. Not bad if u owned the home. Not allot did though. Right of rt9 in Howell. Great community but the South is still way cheaper. I'll pay alil more than what i did for the whole year now. Homestead something tax. Idk i forget

Every single person that lives in or is thinking about purchasing in an HOA needs to READ the Florida Statute 718 on HOA,s (condo’s its Florida Statute 718) AND the Bylaws and Covenants for the applicable associations. This stupid law Desantis signed does NOTHING except cause issues. The Christmas lights for instance that stay up way to long , still have to come down and the homeowner can still be fined, the trash can(s) being left out too late should have already triggered a notice to be sent to the homeowner to advise that they are in violation, Desantis literally extended the time which is going to make a lot of ppl mad. Anything “behind the fence” is already a law on the books. Cops parking their service vehicles is already on the books and is normally already in the bylaws/covenants. Now where this stupid law is going to become interesting is the work vehicles that can now be parked in the driveways/parking spaces, there is NO specifics, except that it cannot be a commercial vehicle, RV’s are now used as work vehicles, is that a “commercial” vehicle? By definition boats and campers (not RV;s) are commercial vehicles, limos that carry less than 15 is not a commercial vehicle. The big pick-up trucks can now park in the driveways and if applicable on street parking in HOA’s. ANYTHING to do with work vehicles is literally in the covenants/bylaws and will bring legal issues. Desantis did not add anything to the fact that HOA’s have to maintain records for 7 yrs. IMO if you did not bother to understand the bylaws and covenants (which by law you have 3 days to read before your purchasing contract kicks in) and then did not bother to read the applicable Statutes and/or do not attend meetings then you are the problem. If you do not understand that there are going to be lawsuits against your HOA which will legally require the HOA attorney to be PAID because the law overrides/interferes with the existing covenants/bylaws then you better buckle up cause your assessments are about to go up!

But when your neighbors start parking on your grass , blocking the sidewalk, parking boats on the side of the house, not washing their driveway or side walk, etc. Some owners think they do not to be considerate of their neighbors and neighborhood.
