Descendants 4 TEASER! Descendants 4: The Pocketwatch just got announced by China Annne McClain (Uma) at D23. In this video, I discuss the announcement of the movie, give my own thoughts on it, and further theorize and explain what the movie will be about and which actors will return.
The Pocketwatch announcement starts with China Anne McClain (Uma) coming on stage of the D23 Expo, who begins to tell that the Descendants story is far from over. The story will follow new characters Red, daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, daugther of Cinderella, as they uncover a plot which threathens Auradon. With the help of a pocketwatch which allows them to time travel, Red and Chloe set out to save Auradon.
China is then joined on stage by Kylie Cantrell and Dara Reneé.
It is unclear whether or not main characters of the first three movies: Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson, and Jay (BooBoo Stewart) will return in The Pocketwatch. Especially considering the fact that a vital member of the group, Carlos (Cameron Boyce) has passed away. This video further highlights a video of Dove Cameron explaining how difficult it would be to create a Descendants 4 without Cameron (Carlos).
The announcement ends with China hugging the new cast members and announcing that the movie will start shooting early next year (2023)!
In “The Pocketwatch,” the expansive new story introduces “Red,” the whip-smart and rebellious teenage daughter of the Queen of Hearts (“Alice in Wonderland”) and “Chloe,” the perfectionist and athletic daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming (“Cinderella”). In order to prevent an impending coup in Auradon - one that looms during the celebration of a new royal baby -, Red must join forces with Chloe to travel in back in time, via the White Rabbit’s pocket watch, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.
China Anne McClain will return as Uma Kylie Cantrall and Dara Reneé join the cast.
Jennifer Phang (The Flight Attendant, Foundation) will be replacing Kenny Ortega as director of the new film from a script written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer (“Magic: The Gathering”). Phang also serves as co-EP.
Returning to the franchise is production designer Mark Hofeling (“Descendants,” “Zombies,” “High School Musical”). Gary Marsh is an executive producer and the casting directors are Alexis Frank Koczara and Christine Smith Shevchenko (Disney Branded Television’s upcoming “The Naughty Nine,” “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” “black-ish” and “grown-ish”).

I think they should have just made this into a book. The original cast was the heart of this franchise and Descendants 3 ended it on a good note. The wedding was a nice bonus plus lovely tribute to Cameron and honestly that’s where the original series should have ended. Another movie won’t be the same without the original cast.

I’m excited & curious. Sad that Kenny might not be returning to direct the film. Won’t be the same without him. Still curious how it’ll turn out, especially based on the end of the royal wedding short film. Strongly hope the original cast will make an appearance even without cameron (rest in peace).

I think they kind of gave us an Easter egg by their outfits. I think Kylie Cantrall will play Red daughter of Queen of Hearts because she is in red and Dara Renee will play Chloe daughter of Cinderella because of the crown in the side of her hair and she is wearing a princess kinda dress.

Huh that's going to be a bit.. if Dara is Cinderellas daughter...is this Cinderella going to be a different Cinderella from the first 3 films cause that Cinderella was Chad's mother.... genetically I don't see Chad and Dana's Chloe being siblings But the way Disney has been going I wouldn't put it past them. It's like Brandys version of Cinderella where the black queen and the Hispanic king had an Asian prince. Well once Upon A time had many detentions with different Cinderellas. So guess Descents can have the same... We'll see.

For me, the end of the third movie never felt like a finale. They just got engaged and i thought the wedding is missing. I hope we will at least hear in the next movie how the wedding went and what happened to the old characters, even if it only happens through narratives.

Even with this "4th" movie, I think of this new movie as it's own. The cast and story line is very much different, and as much as I love descendants, the story is done. They could've done more for the ending, but without Cameron it wouldn't have worked emotionally for the fans or cast.

If Descendants 4 does come out then the original characters have to come back for the fourth film. In my opinion they are what make the movie great and wonderful. With all the history that they have together and how they come together as a family, is simply genius and wonderful.. Huge fan!!!

When i heard it was confirmed, some part of my descendants fan soul rised!!! On the other hand its so gut wrenching to think that cameron boyce died and thats a big loss to take in, i loved the franchise so much and im glad its going to be a whole new different story, but still if cameron was here he would've wanted this story to live on so we have to be excited!!!

Im happy but sad. i would like to see more of the series but it will never be the same without cam or the original cast. The original movies where so good i have memorised all the songs and most of the movies. i just cant see it being as good without cam or the original cast. I have my doubt but i bet it will still be a good movie. may Cameron rest in peace

They'll likely just cameo and that's all. I think they're trying to explore the fantastic and large world of Auradon, because there are so many more fairytales that need exploring. Which would make sense as they're trying to involve a new generation of Disney kids. But Mal and Ben are having a child, so we'll definitely see some more next generation VKs/HKs

My first reaction was such joy because China introduced the movie and she's so talented and should be in more things. I agree the movie without Cameron and the other guys feels a little off but I think they're going about it the right way. They're doing a kind of spinoff set in the same world but with a lot of different characters :)

I´m fine with a decendants 5 and I believe it could make a really good movie, but the origila 3 movies will always be the three really specil movies. I feel like descendants 4 would kind of start a new filmseries in the same univers or something (I think you know what I mean). I´m totally open for anything happening with the descendants movies but I at least want to know, what happened to Ben, Mal, Evie, Jay, Audrey, Jane, Chad, Doug and especially Carlos. Actually I think Disney is going to be sneaking in some WOKE in 4. Afterall we had the son of Cinderella and prince Charming in the first 3 movies yet he had blond hair and blue eyes like the animated Cinderella... yet Rana might be Chloe? Now there could be a lot of possibilities from a stepsister to a different Cinderella like in Once Upon a Time series season 7 had done which explain all new characters. I am just hopping the movie isn't going the rout of Brandys version of Cinderella where the Hispanic king and the black queen had an Asian son. Don't get me wrong I liked the movie and the songs. Even enjoyed Whoopie in it. It was just at the time I was learning about Genetics in school and well let's just say writing a paper on the the movie family back then didn't earn me points.

Due of the story of the pocket watch it mentions a celebration of a Royal baby as in queen Mal & king Ben just had a baby so it's possible that we could see dove and Mitchell return in the end of the movie or probably a voice cameo or we could see the baby ourselves what's the movie come on Disney Plus

Omg I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!!!!!BUT its sad that Cameron won't be in it tho 😔 but hopefully they do some kind of memory for him in the movie or something?? R.I.P Cameron Boyce 💔💔

I’m am totally excited !!!! About this and also I know this hard without Cameron Boyce in all without in D4 and i will not focus about Cameron’s passing 🥹🥹 in the past but I am totally focused on the newest movie coming up and plus I still miss him as a fan but I will not let this to be in vain and also I will continuing my future of watching the future of Descendants and also as well maybe i can having a future of acting of Descendants future movies especially Descendants is my favorite and I wish that I’ll be in the future about descendants so I’ll be in the part of the future projects of descendants
