Being somewhat an artist I can comment on effective camouflage from 20yds away you will have a dark silhouette looking behind you you see a lot of light colors I once saw a German sniper which had some white dime size spots all over his face he completely blended in changed the way I put camo on try some dots or inch long white color slash marks all over and you will blend in better.

He's doing what he was trained to do w/ army/marine camo pat application training - it hasn't kept up with the Multicam level of camoflauge design with more than three colors - dark brown or dark green on the high "reflective" spots, light green or light tan on the shadowed / concave spots .. too much dk brown and dk green [ they are almost the exact same shade ] and not enough yellow/tan/lt green .. not too many camo compacs have white - but the "white spots" can be created using the tan/yellow or a much lighter green - a bit on a fingertip and just touch your face with a twist creates a "blob" .. try to copy roughly the multicam/OCP/MTP pattern - less dark brown/dark green more light green and tan .. add more color choices to your camo stick / camo compac .. maybe add an autumn orange camo paint [lightly used in woodland] .. two shades of green, light and medium instead of dark, two shades of brown, dark and sand, a light yellow tan, white for winter, a pinkish tan for desert, a pale cactus green .. paint one eye brow ridge one color / pattern .. paint the other eye brow ridge a different color / pattern .. same with the cheeks .. dk brown / light green on one eye brow ridge .. dk green / light tan on the opposite eye brow ridge .. more and smaller splotches .. less broad strokes .. tiger striping works if you blend the colors and make the stripes "shorter" and more "jagged" .. high ridges can haved splotches of light color mixed in with the dark color .. depressions can have splotches of dark color mixed in with the light color .. again, when it comes to face and hand paint, move away from "woodland camo" [ unless you are in heavy Canada/Europe-type thick dark woodland ] and go for something closer to "OCP" / "multicam" .. lighter greens and tans will blend in with darker forest greens and browns ..

Good morning, 08.05 h morning in France. Really effective camo i used since 1985 "French Paratroops Commandos" and after in Croatian SF during war time 1991/95. Ennemies see only the flash from your rifle when you shoot at 50 meters, i know it really well because in 1994 it was a big confusion during war action battle in one forest in Bosna, our ennemies were exactly like us, same camo uniforms "US Army Woodland style"... so we've got to use reds and whites stripes on our left and right arms to reconize.

Back in the mid to late 70s I had a hunting buddy back in Texas (we were teens still) who made a really easy homemade Ghillie Suit before the Ghillie Suit even existed. When we went scouting just before deer season he'd bring a sheet of burlap material he made into a poncho. When we found the area we wanted to set up in he would take a can of spray adhesive, spray the burlap poncho down, and then drop it on the ground (leaf strewn like I see in this video) and rake leaves and dirt on top. We'd grab some lunch and in an hour or so, he'd dig out the poncho, and with the local leaves, sticks and dirt firmly glued to it (and it was still flexible) he had an amazing 3D camo poncho that fit the local terrain exactly. One thing he would note, the adhesive usually glued ticks, ants and things in place but if you decide to use Spanish Moss (that made a great cover for our rifles using a similar process), only use the stuff on the ground because the moss on the trees was full of red bugs.

The scorpion or OCP camo is bright and will fade with age which is nice, making it a little better for field work, but it tends to break down very quickly.

Gray is best color for all environments, gray wool for less shine. Best camo out there is Bobcat. The basics so well articulated here in this video is that shadow areas get light paint, light areas get dark paint. Vertical lines on face like nose ridge should get horizontal paint strokes. Many animals like deer are opposite of what lighting is, so when light comes from above, the top of animal toward sky is dark, and where shadow is likely to be as a result of light direction comes from above, shadow under the animals body their camo is light. For hunting i match color to shadow areas and not plant color in sunlight, sunlight not the place to be anyway. Animals are not green.

If I were out to camouflage myself I'd be wearing DPM or MTP clothing, gloves and a boonie with scrim to block out my head pattern or any shape. I might use the war paint for exposed skin. The blend is according to your theatre - depending on the desert, I'd be using dusky pink and yellow ochre with white and orange. Always remember unless suitably attired you can't hide from thermal imaging drone technology - break up shapes.

One thing you didn’t mention when talking about reducing odors is evergreen. (I’ve not served so this is not advice this is question) is there a reason you left that out bc if I was reducing odors that’s the first thing I would have thought of and I’m just curious is there was a reason for leaving it out. in the area 2 hours (drive) north of Phoenix, AZ by Flagstaff. primarily west, southeast and south of fFagstaff. also west of Cheyenne, WY. these areas all have scrub pines and small trees, particularly if there is water in a gully nearby. they are essentially 'alpine' deserts. eastern oregon north, east and south of Bend, OR also. commonly referred to as "high' desert due to elevation.

Andrew, Thank you for all of your videos. I greatly appreciate them. One suggestion after living 33 years in Arizona. Prickly Pear fruit have small individual clusters of short and very fine needles. Not visible except by close inspection, by then it is already in your hand. They are are very difficult to remove. I have seen people try to remove them with their teeth. Now they are stuck in your lips. The best way to remove these needles is to first use a sharp stick and puncture the top of the fruit and remove it from the cactus. Then use a lighter to burn the needles off the fruit. These fruits are also edible and were a staple in the Native Americans diet. Many of the other needles found on abundant varieties of desert plants can be removed from your skin by using a comb. Of course, tweezers are a necessity in the desert also. This was probably way too much detail for your video.
