6 years later and suppressors still take nearly a year to get. I wish they were right on lesser restrictions.

This can be done at home a lot easier than most believe. I use lost wax casting using PLA and mixed metals. Dip it a couple of times in your slurry and then sand it. *Test your slurry until it's appropriate* Repeat 5-7 times. *Make sure it's completely dry in between dipping* Melt out your waxed "Plastic 3D printed" part at 450F. Pour your steel, let cool and sand imperfections *NOTES* -Sand your waxed "Plastic" to at least 400 mesh* -Use good ventilations -Pour upright not laying flat.

Sure but not everyone is handy.... easier to just buy the finished part?

@@partgurus one could say, not everyone has a lot of money, right? You don't have to be handy. You're literally just melting metal and pouring it. Minor sanding for fit and finish. "So easy a caveman can do it". Anyone can get a fire hot enough with the help of a vacuum cleaner blowing air onto a fire and smelting down some aluminum cans with about a dozen pennies in the mix. Take your melted metals and pour in the hole. Don't pour in the wrong hole or it'll look like shit ;)

Sure, if you only intend to use weak or at most medium strength aluminium alloys or pot metal/zinc. If you want to cast high strength aluminium alloys and actually retain all their potential strength you're going to have to properly de-gas it, which isn't something an amateur is capable of doing. After all they use specially made high speed rotating nozzle argon degassers, which takes some very serious engineering. And pretty sure that if you want to cast steel alloys you're going to need to do it under an inert atmosphere or vacuum too in order to prevent oxidation and gas absorption.

This awesome. I like how they stated one of the guys is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. I just got my LSS Green Belt a few months ago, will go for black belt next year. I also just ordered a cnc mill hoping to do similar work. 🙏🏼

Ruger started there revolvers with investment casting since their introduction in the 50's. Very cheap to produce, very fast to produce, and very strong frames. Ruger revolvers are famous for their strength.

@General ElectricLost wax is easier and cheaper. Forging is debatably stronger, which is how machined frames generally start out.

Can you cast gun frames with zinc?
@yourlocaltoad5102
@yourlocaltoad5102 3 жыл бұрын
You can cast them in zinc, but they will be weaker. Many blank guns have zinc frames and parts just to ensure that the gun couldn’t safely be converted to fire regular ammunition.
