Wow that was an awesome video!! I’m new to FMQ, but I’ve been a dressmaker for nearly 40 years. I love how you planned out your quilting and how FAST you accomplished it! Maybe the video was sped up, but if not it looks like you fly those rulers around like a magician! Lol! So happy I found your post!

Thanks so much for sharing. Never been able to figure out what designs to use in a quilt block, so pretty much I am a brilliant edge to edge quilter. This tutorial has been so helpful, love the idea of taking a photo and then playing with different design ideas to see what works. I'm definitly going to use this on my next quilt.

Wow, that's absolutely gorgeous. You can be assured you are a very stable person and will never be put in the looney bin because you have the patience of a saint. All of that detail would definitely make me go crazy. Now if you could draw one design and have the machine know where the seams were and do the work itself I'd like that a lot. Just being able to sketch your idea so fast and not screw up any of the designs makes you amazing. You make it look like you could do it with your eyes closed. You are one amazingly talented lady and I really loved your video. I was so curious to see how the long arm quilting machine worked and how you followed all of those very intricate designs. Thank you for the great video and bravo on your infinite talent.

Sharon E. Thomas, what an amazingly kind post you wrote me. I am so honored by your kind thoughts and I thank you greatly. I can see how you could get addicted to quilting like this. It's mesmerizing. I loved just watching you do it. Keep spreading your beautiful art out to the world for those lucky enough to own one of your beautiful quilts. And just for us curious artists to see a different artform than we are used to doing play out in front of our eyes.

Another beautiful quilting presentation. Love how you make your artwork seem effortless. By the way, what is the music you are playing in the background as you work. I think that music would be great for me to work with once I get the basics down, and my quilting becomes almost second nature like it appears to be for you.

Dr Michael Elinski , thank you very much. All the music I use is royalty free music from youtube. There are very strict regulations on using music on KZfaq, so I have to be very mindful. On some, like this one, I must list it out in the description. So expand the description box that sits below the video window and you’ll see what music this is. Take care!

Love! Love! Love! your work. How long have you been longarming? I have been practicing alot but it doesn't look very good at all. Thanks for the inspiration and hopefully I'll get better at it. I want to be like you when I grow up!😁 (I'm 55 😆)

frekybyrd, awe, thank you for your very kind comments. In this video, I had been quilting for just under a year. I am a registered landscape architect, and I did a lot of drafting by hand for many years. I always tell people that I did my penance and other forms. This method is how we do initial design concepts over base maps. So, it was very easy to transfer the idea to longarming. Just keep plugging away at it and it will get better, I promise. Don't be afraid to do let yourself doodle anything. You'll get a lot more comfortable with things that way. By the way, I'm 52. So, we're very close in age! Have a fantastic day, and thank you once again.

I do this kind of quilting too, but it seems like the amount of work rarely equals what you get paid. Is this a quilt for you or a customer? Just curious. I tend to do a lot of freehand work as rulers slow me down a lot...though they have their place for certain designs. Thanks for the videos, a quilter can't have too many quilting ideas, right?
@thethreadworksfactory4781
@thethreadworksfactory4781 7 жыл бұрын
Robin Kinley, yes, this was for a customer. It is sometimes hard to quote a quilt and factor in all the things that go into custom design. My dear customer has been awesome to work with and understands the time involved. Im sure quoting will become better with time. I always prefer dense quilting and I need to learn more about moderate quilting at a moderate price. That, too, will come with time.

One other trick I saw. Buy 1.00 clear shower curtains from the dollar store and lay them on your quilt to test patterns. I used a sharpie and added and discarded items that worked and didn’t work.

Fantastic tut! Thank you so much for taking the time to teach. As a beginner, I struggle with design. Can you say more about the techniques of taking a pic of your quilt. It looks like a large photo.

elaine robinson , so very kind of you. I take pictures with my iPhone, and I make sure to put the quilt somewhere where there's just one window in meeting light over it. That allows the quilt to really pop, ever so slightly casting shadows over the stitching, and allowing it to be expressed easily in the picture. I hope that helps! Have a fantastic day, and thank you so much for your kind words and your visit! I greatly appreciate it.

It all depends on what I am doing. On every video, I list out what ruler I am using when I put it into play. Mostly rulers from quilters apothecary and the quilted pineapple. Sometimes rulers from Green Fairy Quilting.
