Plainsong is legitimately one of the most staggeringly beautiful and inventive places I've ever seen in video games.

Some really idiotic takes in the comment section. Horizon Forbidden West was an amazing, excellent game with incredible world design and art direction (and much more - story, music etc!), and it's clear to me that none of these people have actually played the game and have just been listening to unfounded negativity online haha Really looking forward to the third game!

Horizon has one of the most unique and unparalleled art style right now in the market. Been following the development for a while now, the level of details they put in even a mere half rotted basket by some roadside is so impressive. Demerits for nerfing Aloy's dodge rolls tho, that decision was just unnecessary and plain stupid. You guys broke the beautiful flow of the game and discouraged engagement.

Settlements like Plainsong or the city remnants of Denver (Devil’s Thirst) in Zero Dawn or San Francisco in the sequel are beautifully designed indeed - but the real feat for me is creating an intriguing post apocalyptic world with all these different tribes inhabiting it; their culture interwoven with and shaped by artifacts from the Old Ones, the diverse biomes reflected in their architecture and clothing - all neatly tied up in a cohesive and interesting overarching narrative - THAT is why i love this game. 💛 Horizon is the reason my channel exists - feel free to check out my cinematic videos showcasing the beautiful locations and landscape

it's a nice video that can inspired us about the way to create art concept, to consider about the relationship with construction and Narrative design, the space function and human lives. Thanks for sharing. I really like the art style of Horizon, it's unique but believable, the art helps the player to immerse the story!

Should have put more effort in making an intresting world instead of just another boring ubiworld elden ring shot forbidden west out of the water and nobody talked about it anymore same with botw in 2017. Its just to generic and boring and takes 0 risks.

i think you have not played the game at all. All the areas are very different, all the side quests are long and detailed, no one of the open world activities is repeated more than a few times and there's several unique dungeons with level design and boss fights

You haven't played the game and this is a generic reddit level comment on the level of "I don't know what I'm talking about and everyone knows" You don't need to tell everyone that you are stupid by commenting. Objectively speaking "Elden Rings Tech" is old, runs like crap and the game looks A LOT worse than it could have. Horizon Forbidden West in contrast is a good example how a Video Game should look like "in the current gen". Example: Horizon Forbidden West has TONS of foliage where it needs foliage. Elden Ring can't afford to have foliage because otherwise players would play at 10 FPS. So for that reason everything in the game looks barren and empty. That is not an artistical choice, it's deprecated tech. In the real world even in "barren places" there are tons of "dead plants" that have tons of "more small dead plants" below them because thats how nature works. Horizon has tons of different layers of nature, Elden Ring doesn't. Thats not because artists chose to "only show 1 dead plant" its because they don't have the budged to do so.

@@TheNerd Sony Fanboys are just pathetic. Mimimimi he didnt like a game from my favorite billionaire company . Forbidden West is nothing just another boring generic checklist ubiworld where you have seen everything after the prolog area. But you can refute my comment you can just insult people. grow up. Who is even talking about Forbidden west ? Beside Nerds like us ? It fails in Building an intresting World and it failed in building intresting characters and it failed in having good gameplay. Does anyone even Remember what the story was about or any character in it beside Aloy and maybe the Lance Riddick guy ? It was forgotten the moment elden ring came out and everyone knows it. Even the Devloper from Horizon made some pathetic comments about how elden ring gets way more attention and better Scores.

Modern game designers are the worst ever and games in general are now worse than the worst made for TV movies of the 90’s I grew up with in terms of artistic integrity and intelligent story telling. Here’s a thought. Apart from Nintendo and From Soft can you think of a single modern game that holds a candle to anything pre 2010 that was made by teams with (almost) zero qualifications in game development? Of course these development teams of the past had qualifications just not qualifications based on curated curriculums designed by educators who had never done anything real in their life other than ‘educate’ students. Your standardised university qualifications for game development, art and writing mean everything from 2012 to now is almost identical. It’s not even really your fault. Just the simple designation of game dev _defines_ the fact you have no ability or capacity to think outside the box you’ve been ‘educated’ to fill. Games like this are trash and why the industry is doomed to be nothing more than opium for the masses. I used to feel pity for devs and teams making games through ‘crunch’ times but now I honestly think it’s divine comedy 👍🏻

This is an incredibly bitter message. The design in this IP is definitely inspired and unique. The gameplay is fun and well thought out. If you're so bothered by it all, prove us all wrong and make something new yourself. I hope to see a project of yours that proposes new ways of doing things and experiencing design.

I can think of many. Red Dead Redemption 2, Last of Us 1 & 2, Doom, God of War, Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, Ghost of Tsushima. And that's just the major studio games not even counting all the great indie games. You seem to have a very rose tinted glasses view of games pre 2012. Games will continue to evolve and game creation is now more accessible than ever before thanks to easy availability of state of the art game engines like Unreal. So instead of complaining why don't you get a team together and design the games you think are needed.

Most games today really are garbage cookie cutter empty open world messes compared to original game design. Games unfortunatly have just become too expensive to produce and it isnt sustainable. So its easier to just bank on a trend like "FPS" or "Open world" Or "Battle royale". 2010 HOWEVER was first person shooter land. It was rare then that you got a shadow of the collosuss vs a call of duty clone. Everything had to be a shooter back then. Every era has its garbage thats popular. I havent player horizon zero dawn or its sequel but just from videos its clear that certain design elements could have been improved on or made deeper and simply werent for whatever reason.

@@deanwilliams433 bro, I'm not the one complaining - you are. There has never been more accessibility to development tools. A lot of it is free and you're welcome to craft your own version of what is good and out the box if you so desire. So get your hands to work and quit criticizing people who are out there pushing games forward. Alternatively, go ahead and explore indies. Games are not only AAA titles, and there are tons of small studios our there surely making something that resonates with what you want to experience.
