Who can remember the ending of the 1st movie? When Gru originally only adopted Margo, Edith, & Agnes to get the shrink ray, but then he became genuinely attached to them. I adored the ending when Gru reads them a bedtime story he wrote himself, inspired by a book about kittens. In his story, he is a unicorn, & he incorporated them as the kittens who melted his heart. Then he unexpectedly went to kiss them all good night, then Margo (the one with glasses) actually hugged Gru & said “I love you”. 🥲 the music in the background really does help.

@@masedaace5473 I loved the first movie, but because of Gru's character arc not because of the minions at all. Actually the movie wouldn't have lost much without the minions. When 100% of the marketing of the second movie only showed the minions, with Gru being nowhere to be seen, I completely lost interest in the franchise. It turns out there was actually a nice cinematic trailer that showed that it was going to be a spy thriller with an emphasis on comedy... I assume that trailer was shown as a movie preview in theaters because I never saw it on TV, it wasn't until years later I saw that trailer on KZfaq, and by that point the Minions movie was coming out so it's pretty clear that as soon as the second movie was started, they pretty much only focused on the minions in the marketing.

Despicable Me 4 needs to be set a few years (around between 4-7 years) after the third film, with the kids growing up and focusing on Gru going through Empty Nest Syndrome. I also hope in the upcoming film, we get a evolved minion as the antagonist, who's independent, self-motivated and speaking human languages. It also creates a parallel between him and Gru.

A cool fact about Scarlet: One of Scarlet's paint collections is Andy Warhol's "Campbell's Soup Cans". There are 32 of these paintings. Each of them features a different flavor. The one Scarlet has in her collection is the Tomato Soup, which debuted in 1897 by the Campbell Soup Company. The company is still making this soup. Warhol first exhibited these 32 paintings in 1962. Given the movie its set in 1968, it fits into the movie's timeline. These 32 paintings are now a part of New York City's Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection.

I tried to watch these films recently. Something that impressed me is how tight the script for the first film is. I'm serious, if you analyze it beat by beat, there is very little content introduced that doesn't come back later or serve the greater plot. It's insane how far the quality dipped in the later films in the franchise.

It's funny because in a bonus animated clip in the Blu-Ray of the original Despicable Me, it was revealed that the minions were the result of an accidental experiment done by Gru, yet the Minions movie made it to where they were always here so I guess those bonus shorts are no longer canon

The first _Despicable Me_ is definitely the best film in Illumination's library. (Aside from _The Super Mario Bros. Movie,_ that is.) With plenty of genuine heart to balance out the humor. The second film didn't have as much heart, but was still pretty good. The first _Minions_ was funny for the first five minutes, then just became cringe whenever Scarlet Overkill wasn't on screen, _Despicable Me 3_ was okay, but nowhere near as good as the first two, and _Rise of Gru_ is definitely better than the first _Minions,_ and honestly a guilty pleasure of mine. Overall, this franchise did a great job at putting Illumination on the map, but definitely contributed to its infamous reputation later on. And I have no clue where _Despicable Me 4_ currently in development could possibly go from here.

This is a reference to the first Despicable Me film, in which he freezes all customers at a coffee shop with his freeze ray, yelling "Freeze ray! Freeze ray! Freeze ray!" Minions: The Rise of Gru is a prequel to Despicable Me, and so the freeze ray is perhaps a result of improvements made on the cheese ray; perhaps Gru realized freezing people was more effective than covering them in liquid cheese

A fact about Edith from the 2nd one: There's a brief shot in the film in which Edith is playing ping pong with a minion, but uses a pair of nunchaku as opposed to a ping pong paddle. This is a reference to a famous Chinese Nokia commercial in which a Bruce Lee impersonator in a mock "lost home video" also plays a game of ping pong using only a pair of nunchaku.

A interesting fact from the first one: When Gru is leaving with the girls the first time, each of the girls has her own luggage. When the young one is being carried out on Gru's leg, no one is carrying her backpack. But she has it leaving his vehicle when they get to his home. Also, since the ship had already re-enlarged well before the Minion, it is hard to see, no one noticed.

Well to be fair, the final big action scene at the end of 2 really stopped at Gru and Lucy holding each other in the water and smiling, just looking happy and in love. And I think the notes to "I Swear" start picking up before they switch to the minions singing it.

Another fact from the 2nd Despicable Me:When Gru goes back to Macho's house to rescue Lucy, he goes in handcuffs with two minions painted purple. The scene is reminiscent of R2D2 and C3PO going to Jaba's palace because of the shot of the door opening, with large teeth on the bottom of the door to prevent it from being battered in. It is shot from the same angle and is thus a tribute to Return of the Jedi in that brief shot.

A fact from the 2nd one:When the Minions assemble to give Dr. Nefario a 21-fart-gun salute, the bugle call "To the Color" can be heard playing in the background. This is a U.S. Army bugle call that is traditionally played on Army posts after the call of "Retreat," as the post flag is lowered at the end of the duty day.

A fact about the Van Halen guitar in Minions: When Stuart is presented with the guitar at the end of the film, he plays the guitar solo of Van Halen's "Eruption". Given the movie was set in 1968 while "Eruption" was released in 1978, this means that Stuart played this nearly ten years before Van Halen.

One thing I'm surprised you didn't bring up is the villains. Where did all the great Disney villains go? They migrated to illumination. These guys are the only ones making bombastic, memorable, BLATANT villains that have the energy and personality of something from the Disney Renaissance, and NONE of them are this bullshit "twist" garbage Disney has been forcing down our throats for the last twenty years.

Funny how "Megamind," which came out around the same time with a similar premise, had a character *named* Minion who never saw anywhere near the same level of popularity as the yellow Tic-Tac-looking Minions. I feel like these movies are successful because they blend in a little adult humor into the films, and it's well balanced with the mostly kid humor as well. It never tries to go too far in the PG-13 direction, which, for a kid flick, is good. But, it doesn't resort to pandering too much, and they are very colorful and bright. Seems like a very successful formula.

Also a Fact from the first one: When the Minions go to the store to get the replacement toy, there is a scene in which the "baby" shakes up a bottle of soda, puts it in his mouth, hilarity ensues. On the shelf behind him, the labels on the bottles read, "POP (then in much smaller letters) soda", and the word "POP" is arranged to make the cheeky joke of creating the word "POOP". One can assume this must be intentional, as the word "pop", which is necessary for the joke, is used pretty exclusively in a small part of the upper Midwest, or pretty much all of Europe.

Dear Nostalgia critic. I first saw your program around 7 years ago. I have to say... Your show saved me.I was suffering from what I would call it.. "A depression relapse" I couldn't go to work and literally felt lost. All I wanted to do is stay in bed. So I had KZfaq for company. I then came upon Nostalgia Critic. It actually made me smile. Your sense of humour really connected with me and I loved how you would blow up and go on your rant. It made me feel like your show was the silver lining in my life. I would watch back episodes and actually gave me a semblance of happiness and something to look forward to. So I want to thank you and your colleagues for the happiness in my dark life in that time. I can thankfully say... My life has improved and there is more light in my life. I still continue to watch Nostalgia Critic and I will continue to watch it. I can honestly say.. It's one of my favourites programmes and always look forward to future episodes. Thank you

The Minions always kind of reminded me of what happened with the Rayman franchise and the Raving Rabbids. The rabbids became a lot more popular than the main series, so much so that they mostly just did Rabbids games instead of Rayman ones. The minnions and the rabbids even have a similar vibe to them with9 the rabbids maybe being a bit more violent and anarchic. Hell, they even got their own show a couple of years ago.

I think Minions would’ve been a great opportunity to have the zany insane wacky humor they had in the first Despicable Me, while not taking away from the emotions. If you want their humor, hey here’s a whole movie for that! But no Despicable Me 3 literally has them taken out of the plot to get back home and it never connects with the other 5 plots

Why is it the Minions from Despicable Me are so popular/iconic yet the Pizza Planet Aliens from Toy Story aren't? I've never been a fan of the Minions at all, but even the 1st time I saw Despicable Me I enjoyed everything in the film except the Minions. Part of the reason why they were annoying was the fact that they only spoke in gibberish & the occasional word, but I realized after a while that they are blatant ripoffs of the Aliens from Toy Story. Think about it: The Aliens are 3 eyed green aliens with oval heads in blue jumpsuits that often speak in unison & only say a few things. The Minions are 1 eyed yellow round creatures in blue overalls that often speak in unison & say even fewer things. But the most annoying thing about the Minions to me is that (much like a lot of side comic relief characters in animated kids films) they are far too overused & take away from the seriousness of scenes while the Aliens are sparingly used to make a quick joke & lighten the mood (or at 1 point save the day) then move on. Finally, while there are some who argue that the Minions are far more useful as sidekicks helpers to the main cast than the Aliens, l the Minions (as shown from their spin off film) cause a lot of problems for the people they work for, meanwhile the Aliens (as we saw from the Buzz Lightyear animated tv show) are actually scientists & engineers that are key to Star Command rather then a hindrance to Buzz & the other Space Rangers. Sorry I went on a rant in this comment, but I really can't stand the Minions, so it bothers me how "iconic" they became in popular culture when they are so annoying as side characters especially when compared to the Pizza Planet Aliens.

A fact about the fire hydrant: The fire hydrant in London is a red American-styled one. In fact all fire hydrants in the UK are under the pavement covered by yellow drain covers marked with an "H". Additionally there is always a yellow sign with a large black "H" on a wall nearby so the location is easily identified.
