Have you ever actually been to a group home or met someone that’s high support needed? This is like saying no one calls black ppl the n word anymore cause you’ve never lived in a lower income neighborhood and have no life experience for the people you are speaking for. I’m sure you don’t say it out of malice but it shows a lack of care even if you think you do; and giving you the benefit of the doubt I think if you care you should try and challenge the reasoning for why you don’t care about this word as much as others you wouldn’t even write out like the n word

I grew up personally disabled and used the word r*tarded all the time, and I still do, because it's funny, and disabled people aren't a bunch of f-cking idiot child teddy bears. So, the question is, have you? We don't need "babying" from ya'll abled folk, so, respectfully, stop trying to talk on behalf of me? But, yes, no one uses the r-word nor n-word anymore in society. You will absolutely never, ever "get rid of" people saying the r-word or n-word. Never. Every time someone says this, they very obviously mean generalized internet society+etiquette shifted as the internet became bigger and more everyday people began using it, and in that context, yes, no one uses the r-word or n-word anymore. Destiny is trying to change that since last year (use of habit is a hell of a thing), some sectors of DGG already use "Remedial" instead.

I've seen back and forth on the issue-- they use retard to mean stupid, not as a slur for disabled people (in fact, they get up in arms when someone uses retard directly at a disabled person, because there was no "gamer word" involved in that usage, just pure hatred.) I've seen the pro and con arguments (some disabled folks saying it's ableist and other disabled folks saying it's insulting to have the word retard somehow associated with them when everyone knows it just means braindead/stupid behavior, etc.) Personally? I don't mind it; but we'll see how culturally it all shakes out.

@@Denis-Maldonado I think using Remedial is more of a memey thing, because Annalisa used it a lot and there was of brief period of like two days where Destiny used it before deciding it was worse than the R-word.
