It was the coldest day I've ever went out surfing. Minus 6 degrees, windchill -12. The wind was perfect to try my new JP Australia 176 Hydrofoil Slalom Board and my medium foil proto (80cm) with an 8.2 Neil Pryde EVOXII. I used my 4/3 wetsuit with 3mm shoes and 2mm handgloves. All good but my hands got cold pretty fast. The sail, the boom, everything was frozen within a second, looked pretty funny. I was scared that it would tear the sail while shifting so I jibed very carfully in the beginning.
Unfortunately, at one point I forgot that I was on a foil when I was too close to land in the shallow waters - crashing at full speed into the shallow.
Luckily my foil is not damaged too much and my board is ok.
It was a great foiling experience. next time with much thicker gloves though.

Omg, 4/3 wetsuit and 3mm boots in -6C? At least 5-6mm to survive! Gloves make your arms scream in pain after short time, try open palm mittens but I think that temperature is too extreme for going out. Brave and crazy LOL. Love this format of video. Thanks for inspiring and motivating us!

Basically the foil is unfortunately destroyed. Cannot use it for speedruns or cometitions anymore.

Super Video! Ich war am Wochenende auf meinem See Schlittschuh laufen, bei über 10cm Eis machste mit dem Surfbrett auch nicht mehr viel XD.. Ich hoffe du hast alle Brettchen verkauft bekommen ;)

In the winter I used to put neoprene socks on my feet before putting neoprene boots, also I worn a neoprene t-shirt under a thicker wetsuit, plus a neoprene hoodie. I always had problems finding fingered gloves that were warm enough and not slipping around the boom. Still windsurfing in the winter is a bit an extreme thing to do :-)

Oh a neoprene with a cloth layer outside is a no-no for winter for me - when it gets wet on the outside then it acts like freezer from the evaporating water! Winter wetsuit should have bare neoprene outside and should repel water so there would be no cooling by evaporation. Alright, that's just my 5c of armchair advice ;-) I wish I would be even one third that good as Andy - and to be able to go windsurfing right now. But my local place is frozen with thick ice so no chance for any windsurfing until the ice melts...

War vor 3 Wochen bei -9 auf dem Zwenkauer See bei Leipzig Kiten. Es war zornig. Alles war gefroren, der Bart, die Lines. Echt fieses Wetter.

Yea i would not mind the cold as much myself but i would not like to damage my material, had an old sail froze before not its ripped into pieces, i would be scared to put full downhaul on my racesail because of the risk of the mast breaking and using a 4/3 wetsuit is just mad haha.

Hab ihn gerettet, die halten ganz schön was aus. Wenn der Sturz nicht gewesen wäre, dann hätte man ohne frieren bestimmt 2 Stunden fahren können. Einzig die Pfoten waren recht schnell kalt. Next mal Skihandschuhe, dann sollte es passen.

@@AndyLaufer ja Vorteil beim Foil ist halt nicht so hohe haltekräfte mit dicken Handschuhen dann machbar, ist der Anzug nicht zu 🥶
