I came back to say thanks, Chris (737mechanic)! I followed your instructions and 3 years of no A/C in this Texas heat has been resolved. Saved me $5k from my local shop. Someone give this guy a medal!! I could cry, I have AC and heat again for the first time in months thanks to this video (and my husband for doing the work). I almost croaked when the repair shop told me the total cost could get up into the thousands. My husband did use the weakest setting on his dremel and a bit with low profile teeth to speed up the plastic cutting, and managed to execute it perfectly.

So I ordered a bore scope for my Iphone and a blend door. Most likely the blend door hinge is broken. Thanks for the awesome video. Update to come.

For anyone that doesn’t have a scan tool. It’s not 100% necessary. All I did was disconnect battery and after finishing and connecting everything back. The only problems I encountered was tpms was all dashes and the compass was saying “CAL”. But literally after driving it for 5 seconds everything went back to normal. With the patience and tools you’ll get it done.

First, thank you so much for taking the time out to show us how to replace the blend door. I live in the midwest and my heat stopped working about 2 yrs ago. I was very nervous about doing this myself especially with the heatee core being so close to the blend door but I was able to fix it with no issues. For any woman reading this, if I can do it so can you. Just watch his video from beginning to end first, get every tool that he suggested, remove the car seat and get a pillow for your back then go to work. It might look challenging but it's not. Might is back working now. Again, thank you so much!

I finally replaced my blend door last night. I started at 9:45p and by 11:30p the new part was in and secured. I think I could have knocked this out even quicker but a few things held me up. 1. The plastic piece that you cut off to access the blend door, TRIM it like this video suggests. I tried to put it back in without trimming it and I couldn't align it right. I fought it for a while before giving up and then trimmed it. It went in right away after. 2. The AC vent tube that is removed at the beginning needs to be put in first when you are reassembling it and the BCM pieces/wires. I tried installing the BCM first and then the vent tube and failed miserably. Once I took out the BCM (and the bracket it is in) the vent tube reattached easily. 3. Get a GOOD light. I can't stress this one enough as there is very little room down there to work in and you can't see anything without a good light you can reposition over and over to get good views of everything. If you need something good to cut the access door with, I hight recommend this ($40) plastic welder. I bought it several years ago for other projects and it worked great for this project too! There is a rounded tip that comes with it that was perfect for the job. It took me about 5 minutes to cut out the plastic piece., seriously 5 minutes if that!! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00002N7S1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Got the door cut and out today, wasn't too bad, took a few hours, but I didn't get in any hurry. Only thing I would add is the horizontal screw for the air duct was a Hex 20 on my car and not a 7mm. Mine is a 2012 2SS. When you get these two screws out pull down towards you and rotate clockwise, the duct comes right out. The only issue I have now is trying to fish out the broke end, and the white connector piece, but I'll tackle that tomorrow. I used the borescope and unfortunately, they both are about 1/2 way down to the passenger side, approx. 6"-7" away from the hole I cut. I tried a vacuum with an end on it that would hold them at the end without pulling them into it, but it didn't reach far enough. I guess I'll try a long screwdriver tomorrow. Thanks for the video, made it much easier to do.

I have a 2010 Camaro with the same issue. The A/C mechanic I took it to installed a valve on the heater hose, you close it for A/C and open it for heat. He said he did not know how to fix the blend door and this way was the most practical fix he knew of. Today I found this video and ordered a new blend door off Amazon. Also, when on the order page an electric hot knife popped up. So Amazon must know about this fix. It will be nice to switch from heat to A/C without having to stop and turn the valve and burn the shit out of your fingers. 😮

This video helped me change my blend door myself. I'm 58 yr old healthcare provider. I'd like to add that there is a simpler way to check if the blend door is working. Remove the cabin air filter. Have someone turn the AC to on and over to heat. You can clearly see the blend door moving. Of.course that was after I fixed it. So if it's broken. The blend door shouldn't move back and forth.

Great video!!! Quick question how did you try and run the door actuator? Did you just try and cycle through heat/acmodes?
@737mechanic
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
That door is for temp only so when you turn your temp selector it should cycle that door from full hot position to full cold position.

QUESTION: am in the process of doing this repair and have hit a snag. The shaft on the actuator motor won’t align with any position that I can adjust the newly installed blend door. It's just slightly off but enough where I can’t even re-bolt the piece on. I’m thinking I can reset with a 9V battery, but can’t find the pin assignment to test. (GM Part # 92215208/ACDelco Part # 15-74128) Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you for your videos!

Thank you for this video! SO detailed. I was able to knock this out in about 3 hours. Unfortunately I should've got the scope because once i got to the blend door it was perfectly fine. I replaced it anyway with the new one since i was down there. I never thought I'd actually HOPE it was my blend door. My car still blows hot air in the summer and im suspecting will blow cold air in the winter again. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Maybe it's something as simple as recharging the AC/Leak. Its a 10 year old Camaro with 92k miles. Any suggestions on what the issue could be ?

Look and see if the compressor is engaged when the engine is running and if so, feel the aluminum low side line that is next to the master cylinder and see if it is cold, if it isn't then check the refrigerant charge.

Question....are there any vacuum lines or hoses or anything that could have been nicked or cut or messed up in anyway that could have happened when a "shop" did this repair for me? Since having this repair done I've num a rous problems with my 2012 45th anniversary Ed ss. In this video I heard mention of a scan tool that resets any faults... would any such faults cause actual problems to the mechanical quality of my car? Maybe you xan tell that I've no idea about mechanics I got my dream car n since this shop "helped " me with this same problem u address jn the video it's been a nightmare. The shop is now shut down closed up gone bye bye so I've little recourse n fewer dollars to spare going to gm or Chevy is obviously the biggest fear in my nightmare. Please any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've got "stabilitrack" lights n messages as well as engine codes 303 n 353 which h from another video I saw say a they're all connected believe it or not n yes I've done spark plugs n tune up n compression Tests. Any ideas welcome. Thank in advance

Update...be very careful like he said on heat core when cutting. I didn't peirce the heat core but a peice of plastic that was covering that side broke off. Now when I put it together my heat works yes, but now my coolant is leaking with it the vent and it's blowing smoke....now I have to figure a way to patch it up

Just recently did this repair and while my air is still a bit cool compared to what it was, is it possible if you didn’t seal that plastic back up that the air that’s escaping could be coming in contact with the heater core resulting in it blowing warmer than it should? That’s literally the only thing I didn’t do and it started off fairly cool but today it felt warm again. The door seems to work cause I can tell the difference in temp otherwise.

Two things, first make sure it is fully charged, second, have someone do a door calibration to make sure it opens and closes all the way.

What is a safe length to use on the exacto knife to not pierce the heater core? I’ll be attempting to do this in two weeks and damaging the heater core is what worries me the most.
@737mechanic

I use the regular exacto knife blade and I grind down the sharp point to a rounded point to be safe. But unless you are really pushing hard on it I don't think you need to worry to much.

@@737mechanic Thanks for the great video and details! AC is blowing super cold again! I have an Xtool D7 and did the relearn. If I do this often should it be okay to move my switch to max AC or max heat or should I avoid doing this at all even if I can run the relearn monthly?

@@kylewalsh803 I run ours on max. Our car had 130000 miles when it broke so I figure if it last even 80000 before it breaks again no big deal. If we happen to have the car the hard part is already done.

Hey man I need help , do you think the blend door would be a reason for the clutch not to turn on the compressor?, I changed ac pressure switch , the clutch on compressor not engaging . I even tried to jump the compressor. But the weird thing is it engaged for the first time , I saw .. a few days ago ,when it was kinda cool outside.. 1st time ever since I had my Camaro since January .. i need all kinds of advice , trying to get it done this week before this 110 degree weather end me 😭
@737mechanic
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
No, the blend air door will not have any effect on the compressor. If you know it is fully charged check the temp sensor. Watch this video on this Camaro blowing ice crystals, the temp sensor is what causes the compressor to cycle and if the temp sensor is stuck at a temp showing under 38 degrees the compressor will never come on. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/laeJdt2m3N2RfaM.html

would you be able to use a dremel to cut the piece out instead of a hot knife ?
@737mechanic
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
The problem with using a dremel is the cut will be thicker than using a hot knife and the most important is if you even touch the evaporator or heater core you will grind through them. The purpose of using a hot knife is NOT being able to cut through either of those.

That is the floor vent duct so when you select floor vents it blows the air down to the floor. Some people have gotten so frustrated they have left it out.

Does the actuator fits in any position the door is? Does it matter? Or you need to keep the door closed so the actuator engages in? Do you need to recalibrate with the scanner after you finish installing it? Thanks

Anyway, you can get it back on and then disconnect the battery and reconnect and when you start the car it will do a self calibrate.

Got the Boroscope today, what position should the camera that's on the side of it be positioned? I tried it from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock and still could find the far end of the door to see if it was broken.
@737mechanic
@737mechanic Жыл бұрын
So if you just barely put it in and with the key on turn the temp selector you should see the door open and close if it is not broken if it is you will not see it move. If you were to look straight through the hole the door coupling would be just below the hole. The video below is another video showing the boroscope in action. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbqRp9Sm1djRemg.html

@@737mechanic The heat will not come on at all, and the door doesn't move when I rotate the temp dial. I just wanted to see the far end of the blend door from the passenger side, to verify it's broken on the actuator side. I cannot see the heater core, only the evaporator so it must be stuck in the cooling position. Based upon what it is doing, it probably is the blend door. Just wanted to verify before I go buy a hot knife. Thanks so much for your help. I wish you were in NC, I'd just pay you to do it. I'm 6'2" 230 and getting in there even with the seat removed will be tight. But your accent sounds like Okie. Just a guess.
