I went to school for ag service technician but after 4 years of not working on a single diesel motor my 06 f250 had injector failure in cylinders 1,2,3. This guy just with this video alone saved me nearly 3,000 dollars in labor costs alone from taking it somewhere else. I had pretty much every last tool except the long torx bits but other than that I was able to do it all on my own in a couple of days. Wish there was a video for the driver side as well though.

Just finished this job. This video was a tremendous help. Going to add my own tip here. The clearance on those rocker cover bolts just ended up being too close. I had to have another solution. I found that if I remove the 6 or 8 screws holding the A/C box cover on, that I had much more room to access those pesky fasteners I was really after. Now putting the cover back on is a little tricky, but its flexible plastic and it will eventually wiggle in. As for how the truck runs, I think I might need a new VIN number!

It can be tight. I have removed the side cover before but found it was faster for me to just sneak in there. Thank you for watching!

Just did the 4 passenger side injectors today on my dad's 6.0, and couldn't get the leverage on the #7 injector without taking off that evaporator cover. This is definitely a great thing for folks to keep in mind if they're encountering a really tight hold down bolt on that #7 injector!

Great video! Only hiccup I had was my torx bit fell out of the injector bolt and went right down the oil drain hole in the head. After a couple hours, I successfully fished it out with an inspection camera with a magnet attached to it. It fell about 10" down the drain hole. Next time I'll be sure to stick the end of a long piece of hose into the hole to prevent that from happening. Everything else you said was spot on!

READ THIS COMMENT FOR STANDPIPES DUMMY PLUGS: I was a little confused when he started talking about these. If you have the 2003-early 04 model 6.0 you do not have dummy plugs and your stand pipes are completely different than the ones he is talking about. You will need a 18mm socket to remove the early style standpipes. However there is no need to remove these for preventative maintenance, unless they are the culprit to your problem. I learned this the hard way. They will bend on you due to torque when removing and you will need to replace them. This confusion is costing me another week without my work truck waiting on the correct parts. Other than that this video is fantastic!

For your T40 or T45, you do not want too long of a bit. Snap on makes one S6340E that is slightly over 3", while a "long T40" is usually about 4" and will interfere with the evaporator box on #5 and #7. Also VIM makes a stubby Torx set which is great for the T30 hold down bolts on the passenger side.

Joseph Cirelli thank you! As far as the swearing goes I typically avoid trying to adjust the box. They usually get worn in the center but not at the locks. You will take the play up in the center of the travel but at the left and right it will be too tight. I have had great luck with blue top steering boxes.

Quick question sir. please help me out here, this is my first diesel truck. My truck has the long cold crank issue and last week I replaced the stand pipes and dummy plugs. I think it helped a little. When I opened the valve cover on the passenger side, I found a very small piece of broken black rubber or black wire on top of the oil rail. But, today the check engine light came on with error code P0273. Any idea what could be the problem? do I need to replace injector # 5? Thank you. 2006 F250 with 217k miles.

My truck was stolen and stuck in the mud on the river. I drained the transmission and engine . The crankcase had clean water coming out for about 8 seconds then just black oil. I’m going to take the injectors out and crank the engine. Ford wanted $3600 when I called them. Looks like I’m going to learn how to work on a 6.0 . I had seen diesel tech Ron’s video and y’all are right in line with each other down to the upgraded dummy and standpipes. In The Shop , I’m a truck driver so I’m not rushing to fix it. I’ll order the plugs and harness plus the IPR valve. Is that turbo tube/EGR cooler upgrade a fix for a common 6.0 problem? I’m not experienced at Diesel engine but I’m about to learn.

Thanks for all the tips. Is there any risk of hydro lock, when doing injectors from the fuel falling down into the cylinders?

Its a very small amount of fuel and won't lock the motor up like it does on the 7.3s with the oil and fuel draining from the heads.

Great video, I've got a 05 6.0 powerstroke I put new injectors in, the truck runs great with no problems but if I hook on to my trailer and haul a load, I have a fuel leak somewhere on the driver side that gets all over the wheel well and down driver side, I wash it off real clean and drive it but there's no fuel leak, seems to only do it under a load down the interstate, Any ideals on where it might be coming from??, I went ahead and changed the pressure and return line from the fuel pump up to the lines by the front of the head but haven't driven it under a load yet since I've done that but it never leaked if you're just driving the truck without a load

Hey Eric, are you positive its fuel? Are you sure its not coolant venting out of your coolant bottle?

Some people do it that way. I have found for me its faster to leave it on. Whatever works best for you keep doing. Thanks for watching David.

I use a semi-deep 9/16 socket and go through the inspection port. If you are still struggling with that there is a rubber plug on the opposite side of the block as the starter and you can pop that out and get a socket right on them with an extension. Make sure to use a 6 point socket
