Well this is way much better story than Rowan Atkinson McLaren F1 that was crushed twice in accidents and fully rebuild each time before it was eventually sold but because the vehicle was involved in such unfortunate incidents the value dropped on the resale still bringing Mr. Bean (7 millions pounds) more than he did pay for it when the car was brand new but considering the money he did spent at the McLaren work-shop to be fixed twice we all get the full picture much clear..

@@Dazlidorne it kinda already is. Though it tends to be for charitable events, specific motoring events. It’s not generally open to the public. For a private collection, Jay has made it remarkably accessible. He didn’t have to make all those videos, but he has. He doesn’t have to employ those staff or invite in all those events, but he has. That’s made him pretty unique so far as private car collectors go. What becomes of his collection after his time (may that be far off into the distant future)? I don’t know. But I’d not be surprised if the way he chooses to dispose of it was public spirited in some way or other, at least to some extent. At the same time if he had opted for its private sale and dispersal, well I’d be still thanking him for all the truly fabulous things he has done for us car nuts.

I assume that is because it’s regularly washed as I would would with my car.
@Patrick94GSR
@Patrick94GSR Ай бұрын
It’s an edited video and those guys are probably full time detailers on Jay’s garage staff. They most likely wash each car shortly after Jay takes it out for a drive. So this car likely only had a little dust on it, meaning a contact wash wasn’t needed. And the less touching of the paint before polishing, the less work you have to do to correct the paint. Then after polishing, wash it to get rid of any residual polishing oils or leftover polish buildup.

I love it when the detailers can’t explain one step of their detailing process properly. They also can’t explain any of the solutions and compounds they are going to use beyond it’s a “wipe down”… Real pros obviously, how Jay let’s them come within one mile of this F1, I will never know.

i just heard him say they WIPE the paint and then polish and then wash it, I've not heard of this tactic but it seems pretty counterintuitive to rub the dirt, brake dust, and whatever other contaminants are on the paint. maybe they know something I don't. Don't know, but I would've expected at least a pre-wash. Then a wash and a clay bar would've been par for the course, especially on a car like that. Just because it's taken care of and you can't see stuff embedded in the paint, it doesn't mean it's not there, but hey what do I know, I'm not a detailer. Seems counterintuitive though... Very much so ! Also, does that torque wrench double as a breaker bar ?

Maybe I’m not as knowledgeable as I think I am, but shouldn’t you do a basic wash first, dry thoroughly, claybar, then another light wash down, THEN polish and buff? Also, the wheels against that metal siding made me uneasy. I don’t care how light you are with your hands, it can still damage the wheel. Overall nice video, but while I’m not detailing expert, some steps felt weird and just a push of the product rather than a proper detail.

We need more people like Jay in the enthusiast world. He has the money to buy and maintain some of the most precious cars ever made, and the guts and the love for the cars to actually drive them so normal people can enjoy them. I hate to see cars bought at auction and then disappear into someone's garage to accrue value, never to see daylight until they're sold again. It's hard for me to describe but for me, a car that just sits in the garage and isn't used has no value. It may have monetary value, sure, but if you're so afraid to drive it because you may get a scratch...like I said it's hard for me to describe. Jay is the quintessential automotive enthusiast, and I wish everyone who collected rare cars was like him.

Do not wipe your car down with quick detailer and then polish. Jay said use alcohol and he was right. 70% Isopropyl alcohol diluted 3:1 with water. Then polish, and only if you already have a clean car to start with. I'm kind of amazed this car doesn't have PPF installed.

@@krusher74 As far as I know some owners who buy this car have also racing version of it. Mechanics who works for them. Thats nothing special. Remember that if you live in USA back in the day after 2000, when they were legal, you had to jack up the car to repair anything from underneath. Back then, the owners of this car were even richer than Jay Leno. I guarantee you that they had one lift, because they also had 20 other cars of this type in their collection. They preffered this to a ship car to Woking by sea or air. When it was possible to send just the part to USA and an MSO mechanic would come and fix it on site in the owner's large garage.
