This was one of my favorite details and films I've ever produced. David has been asking his 83 year old father (doctor who work in NYC and travels back and forth to NJ daily) to pull his 1969 Mercedes 280 SL out of their old garage and restore it so it can be passed down to his grandchildren. David asked if we could pull the Mercedes out of the garage (where it has been for 37 years) and detail it enough so that it inspires his father to give the green light for restoration. Watch the step by step process of removing the mold, dead animals, dust, dirt, and oxidized paint back to life. Hope you enjoy the reveal :) -Larry

LOL I think I'm turning into the same kind of guy. I'm 34 and recently saw a picture from when I was 20 (shirt is older than that) wearing a shirt I wore a couple months ago. I try to keep my stuff in good condition and don't really by anything unless I need it or really want it for a long time. I make good money now but when I was growing up it was scarce and as I kid I found out if I waited a few weeks before buying something (just in case something I wanted more came along) I didn't even care about it much after a while. So now I only buy stuff if it's still on my mind after a couple months. I think the low amount and inconsistency of my allowance (it was uncommon for my parents to have to "barrow" it back) made me realize nothing is guaranteed. Fortunately I haven't had to ask my parent for a cent since I made 20 cause I was so used to buying nothing but necessities and always have been happy just to have my bill paid and a place to leave comfortably. I'm just now starting to realize I'm not poor anymore and I can start buying some stuff. Either way it never effected my happiness.

I loved watching this, I have a red 65 230 SL I am restoring, it is a real rust bucket but they are such cool cars. Mine has both the hardtop and the soft top. It was my brothers and he passed away about 37 years ago. The car ran for about 10 years after that but the transmission broke and it has been sitting mostly outside in florida with my Dad until he passed away a few years ago and I got it. Lots of memories. I wish I could have restored it for my Dad before he passed. This guys reaction was so awesome!

Amazing. We've got a 69 280sl like this but in blue. Not so much restoring but just slowly making it more like it was when it was new. You really can't beat the feeling of cruising with the roof down listening to the burble of the straight six. Good luck with your project!

As a detailer myself I love the aspects of detailing, enhancing, and protecting very high end cars, it’s part of my daily routine 9 times out of 10 every day at the shop. HOWEVER, although disaster detail cars suck and give you that feeling of dread when you see them roll in and open the door for the first time, there’s nothing like transforming them into something that anyone would be proud to drive. Details like this are the most satisfying ones of all no doubt because every once in a while it’s good to prove your worth as a detailer in full and it’s jobs like this that remind you why you got into detailing in the first place all those years ago. What a transformation and the customer reaction was absolutely priceless!!!

Reggie Lee When you have the will and the determination to stick with something, you can do amazing things despite your age. I knew a guy that worked out at my gym six days a week who was in his late 80’s. (87, I believe). He was doing some pretty impressive stuff too and looked great. This guy in the video is doing what he loves, and he doesn’t let the mental voice of “I’m too old for this” stop him. Because we as humans often underestimate ourselves based on statistical claims.

@Weljash Just a hunch. Most people who "need the money" don’t garage a collectible car like this; leaving it untouched for 37 years. Also remember, he bought a Mercedes to commute back and forth to the city 42 years ago. If he had Mercedes money back then, I am guessing that he is pretty well off now.

A job this big probably cost around 7000 to 8000 dollars, perhaps more. Well worth it since your bringing back at least 5k value back to the car. The car is probably worth 20k now, would have been 12-14 without the detail. Well worth the cost.
