DETAILING, WEATHERING & FITTING WINDOWS.
Yes there is a text error on the video, I know, sorry about that. I just missed that one! Im not going to change it thanks!
When I started this build, I was in no doubt how long it would take. It has proved just as I thought, but… no-one ever said scratch building was easy. However, if you want something not commercially sold, you either scratch build or forget the idea. We take the rough with the smooth, to get exactly what we want. I know from experience the end results will pay dividends. So in this video, I apply some details, weather the brickwork and take on the mammoth job of fitting windows and window frames, HOW MANY. Lol Enjoy!

Yet another amazing video John. I never cease to be amazed by your dedication to detail and your patience. I have to constantly remind myself you are working to N gauge measurements. 155 windows in any scale would be beyond my mental tolerance. I just don’t know how you do it. But then I remember Piccadilly Station and understand it better. Have a great Christmas break from school and I look forward to seeing your videos in 2024. Roy.

Thanks Roy, I just love putting in all those tiny lil bits. It’s a real challenge, which I thoroughly enjoy. Despite this haven’t touched it as yet during the hol, but hoping to start again next week. Needed to stop.

As Miss Black might have said, that's a lora lora windows. The building is really imposing and coming along very nicely John. It is very true to the prototype and it was interesting to see how you made the brick work paler - something to remember for me to use in the future. Stephen

Thank you Stephen, glad you liked it. I am hoping it will look better when the building is dropped into the unit I made a few weeks ago. I want to get the roofs made first.

The mill building is looking really good. It's coming along really nicely and is going to look spot on once in place. Hopefully, my grandson will be putting a Christmas themed video on his Dylington Model Railway channel soon..... have a great Christmas and best wishes for the New Year, Cheers James 🙂👍

Dear John, some pain staking fiddly work you did there on those 155 windows. Love the addition of the green window frames, definitely adds to the surface texture of the building. Beautiful how the mill is coming together, very interesting how the more finished mill seems to fit its location better and better. Humbly think the leveling you’re planning is gonna make the mill blend in with its surroundings like on the photos you’ve shared. Curious for your next episodes, although I must add I’ll be patient, realizing this level of detail work is indeed beyond tedious, or at least it can be. Nevertheless, truly appreciate the vid and the level of shared experience, insight, joy and fun you’re having with this build. Cheerio

Hi, thank you for your kind comments, TBH it’s not so much tedious rather time consuming. I agree lowering the building into the ‘setting’ will make a huge difference. This will allow me to level the ground surface to the correct height for each side of the building. I’m hoping to complete in the Christmas hols, but I maybe hoping too much. Time will tell.

Hi, thank you. It is proving to be a mammoth build. The mill is an events location ie: weddings, conferences, retreats. There is also office space I believe, yes it is a lovely area, but it is embedded in a town location.

Hiya John , hope your well ? just been caching up on your videos , been really busy on a few projects of my own so didnt have time to watch much on youtube . Wow you have been busy 😯. Hi, thank you glad you like it. Yes it is a bit of a mammoth build but one step at a time. Yes varnish is very important as it protects the card, the ink from fading and allows you to apply all sorts of weathering techniques. Hoping that’s helpful.

If the location I mentioned is correct, it would have been a cotton mill. Manchester was also known as Cottonopolis, you know!!

Yes it was a cotton mill, but now is an events venue, with I believe a hotel as part. I did a video 2 / 3 weeks ago showing the real place. If you go to their website it explains all.

Hi, New Mills is about 16 miles from Manchester in a South East direction. Id say its between Stockport and Buxton. The exact area is just outside New Mills central station, and is known as the Torr Vale next to the river Goyt. Hoping thats helpful. Btw, if there is something you need to know and cannot find out, just say and Ill di my best to help or put you in touch with another KZfaqr.

@piccadillymodelrailways
@piccadillymodelrailways 7 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for you kind words, I think itll work well as time goes on. Ive always printed the windows at 0.5 mm thick so acetate can be applied quite close to the frame and look fairly flush glazed. TBH, I may only glaze the really large windows and leave the rest unglazed on this occasion.
