Get ready for the International Roadcheck, or as we call it the D.O.T. blitz. It's from May 14-16 of 2024. I will be going over the inspection bulletin in this video. I got it from Overdrive. The focus will be on tractor and trailer protective systems, specifically, the tractor protection valve, trailer supply valve and anti-bleed back valve, which may be overlooked during trip and roadside inspections. You already know they'll be looking at other stuff too.
Here is a link to the inspection bulletin: www.cvsa.org/wp-content/uploa...

Here is my nightmare story of trying to beat a couple of violations through the dataQ challenge: • DATA Q Challenges are ...

Our annual inspection is every 12 months for truck and trailer. I just go to a truck shop that's certified. Do you all have blitzes like we do? We have them 2 to 3 times a year and they usually will have 20 or so inspectors at each weigh station inspecting as many trucks as possible for 3 days, sometimes the whole week.

@aftersolo usually here when it warms up in spring you can expect theDOT to set up some major check spots where they go over all trucks 1 ton and over with a fine tooth comb.

I am not going to help them do anything, especially thing's that are Safety Hazzards, I've been pulled in before, and I haven't assisted them by working any of trucks' controls brakes, lights ect. As they by law cannot operate your truck or enter the cab of your truck, unless you invite them in.They get really pissed, but there's nothing they can do other than invent safety violations to write you up for. That's when I inform them their on camera, and I'm timing their stop. If you are going to do this, make sure all your truck, trailer, license, permits, E-LOG other and paperwork are correct, or they will find an excuse to put you ' Out of Service '!

@chriswojdag2177 You're braver than me doing that. I used to get in trouble a lot with the law decades ago, and where I grew up, the police were very crooked. I got pretty bad ptsd from it actually so I'm not going to try and make their job any harder. I'm always thinking the worst case scenario like as soon as I'm out of there, his buddy is going to pull me over down the road and plant something on me. I just don't take the risk. They can always write you up for some old law or regulation that they don't even enforce anymore bc it doesn't apply. All the sudden I got 5 tickets: One for my sunglasses being too dark. Another for having a truck with contrasting colors. Another for having an aluminum screw instead of steel. Another for using an unauthorized type of wood for my runners on my trailer. And another for having an unauthorized knot on my shoes. Thats actually 2 violations. I knew a guy that doesn't truck anymore that never messed with scales. He said he didn't need somebody checking his truck and trailer. That was his job and he did it well. He said everything can be working when you leave after doing your pretrip, then by the time you get to the scales 150 miles away, a light might be out or air might be leaking. He said 100% of the time, things go bad going down the road and he would fix it next time he stopped, or if somebody told him on the cb. He said it was crazy that you can be put oos for something you had zero control over. He always said "I ain't driving to the belly of the beast " Or he would say "You get eaten up in the lions den everytime." Zero leniency. Zero tolerance. Zero understanding.

have you heard of "centering sleeves"? my local shop put them on. I just got some new steer tires and this centering sleeve thing goes on the stud permanently and basically keeps your rim AND drum centered by eliminating any gap between the rim and the wheel stud. It's from the same company Tru-Balance that makes the centering socket tool that shops use when mounting tires. Seems super useful and a better solution than just doing a temporary centering when mounting.

I never knew that existed. Pretty cool. I just looked them up and watched a video. I think I'll be adding those to my truck and trailer. I'll see if maybe Amazon has them.

@@aftersolo I'd be careful about the no-name amazon ones because it seems like there's many variants depending which one you need. Gotta do some measuring and reference your brake drum number and the truck vin. I'd probably stick with the Tru-Balance in the steers. but I seen there's these plastic ones that are only like $2/piece called "Pilot Sleeve" by Ken-Tool and those would probably be just fine for trailer and drive axles. Considering this centering thing is going above and beyond like I've never heard of these either. I know your supposed to ask the tire guy to "true" them up I didn't know they made these.

@PaulEDanger I don't expect much of anything from the tire shops honestly. I would have them install the wheels then I would install the wheel centering sleeves later. The tru-balance ones are extremely expensive. Looks like close to $1000 for truck and trailer. I also saw the tool that only centers the wheels from Tru balance, but not the drums. It's much cheaper bc they can be pulled off each rim and re-used to center the others. They run about $200. I think I'll check out the reusable ones. I just watched a video from a company called CounterAct and they make them. Good point on the Amazon stuff too. I get a lot of truck-related stuff from Raneys.

@PaulEDanger I already know, if I bought those sleeves and had to get a new tire put on the truck, a lot of shops are either going to forget to put the sleeves back on, they're going to have a policy which doesn't allow them to put them on, or they'll just throw them away. I would never know bc a lot of tire shops won't allow you in the shop. I like the ones that you screw on, then you tighten the lugnuts, then you remove them and you can reuse them on all the other wheels. Thanks for all the info. Good stuff.
