The Tantrum is one of the most fun flips in my humble opinion. So many different variations possible and being able to spot the landing for so long makes this trick really enjoyable. This too can be a first invert for many people, especially those riders who can do back flips on tramps, off docks or have some sort of experience going upside down backwards. For my students who are freaked out by going backwards, I have them cut at the wake from pretty far out to build up speed and then right at the wake let go of the rope and do the Tantrum w out the handle. The lack of tension and the loss of speed helps them feel confident enough to commit to throwing the flip, or at least get started in the right direction. For this, boat speed around 18 mph is all that is needed to get around. Whatever tricks you use to get going, keep the risk low but rewards high by small steps towards those new tricks. Enjoy your ride!
