That thing is a beast! These one-off farmweld type of creations are the coolest in my opinion. Hats off to the guy that made it, just too cool.

We have owned many two cycle Detroit Diesel engines. The the first number is for the number of cylinders, the second number is for the cubic inches per cylinder. It fired on every stroke, hence it sounded like they ran twice as fast. They were good starters in the cold, cheap to overhaul, parts were available. The 53 series max RPM was 2500 0r 2800 they really screamed. On the 61 series the operating range was 1800 to 2100 RPM. We had a truck with a 6V92 with a blower and turbo, it was economical to run with about 300 HP and about 1,000 pounds of torque.

It isn’t,really that bad of a job to operate it, just painful without ear plugs, better job than some things we used to do like operating northwest draglines with all those long levers.

I ran a couple Detroit Diesel powered pieces of equipment, a JD 440 with a 2-53 and an Euclid loader with a 4-71. Headphone hearing protection is necessary for the operator at all times. I see lots of the old commercial fishing boats running Jimmy diesels on Lake Superior. You can hear them miles away. Simple engines that will run forever. Just don't shut them down hot.

Oliver 99 had 471 GMC two strokes. Nice creation. How u out a road ranger trans under there ?
@vintageequipment3768
@vintageequipment3768 Жыл бұрын
The road ranger was installed by my father machining a large plate to cover the hole in the rear end where the allis transmission bolted up.there is a huge open universal joint between there and the road ranger that connects the two together. No pto on this tractor now which is fine as I just use it to pull implements 5 or 6 days a year. Not going to buy a new green one for five days a year.

@vintageequipment3768
@vintageequipment3768 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the light switch is just that and I don,t remember what I was doing with the Johnson bar. I intend to get both brakes working this winter. The tractor lives outside and the weather takes a toll including seizing stuff up.

@@vintageequipment3768 I will say I do appreciate people that make what they need to get the job done. Hats off to that. That is a good train of thought, my father was never into ascetics although some things he built did have a “factory” look to them, this tractor not being one of them. Most of his builds did function and did the work he intended them to.

@charliehill6914
@charliehill6914 Жыл бұрын
That's exactly what it's supposed to sound like. You drive Detroits like you are mad at them. It's supposed to turn no more than 2500 rpm and, under load, no less than 2100 rpm.
@ericgabriel4190
@ericgabriel4190 Жыл бұрын
A 2 stroke sounds like it is running twice as fast as a regular 4 stroke diesel. Those engines did not like to be lugged down, 2200 rpm or so sounds super fast but is normal operating speed.
