DAWSON PREACH! Thank you! My dad was a pastor, that man catted around with any female who was willing along with his daughters, I got STD's multiple times as did my Mom. No, she didn't care, she didn't protect her daughters, instead she was jealous. I am glad I found the Lord as an adult. I forgave him though he tried to silence by paying off doctors to declare me mentally incompetent (one refused thank the Lord) and threatening employers and friends to silence with physical and social harm! I don't trust most pastors, many are conducting themselves inappropriately in sexual sins. Years ago, I had date with a pastor and he suggested we get to know each other in a Biblical sense. I told him no way, I wasn't down for that, I certainly wasn't joining him for service the next day either! Funny thing, I met him 25 years later when I had had major surgery and he was the driver of the animal transport for my dog from the vet. I knew him and He may have remembered me (I think he had), I pretended not to recognize him.

It really doesn't matter what our speculations are. What matters the most are the conditions that exist in so called 'black' communities that create the circumstances and issues that individuals wrestle with, which can cause heinous actions against one another. The level of the transgressions vary, but the impact doesn't; sadly, people have become so calloused or used to the murders, the assaults, the infidelity and promiscuity that these things may have coalesced to become a legitimate culture. I say 'may have' because news media has a tendency to over-emphasize the negative reactions of so called 'blacks' to the colonized state many of us have been born into and replicate. Over-emphasis easily leads to blanket assumptions that 'they' are all like that. (which we are apt to do to each other as well) Any citizen of a war torn country abroad will attest to how hard it is to change a culture. It does not happen overnight and may take generations. The church in our society as a whole has been compromised, but we need to look at the other institutions that have eroded. Family is an institution as are stable relationships and cooperative neighborhoods where the interest of the whole is predominates the individual's. People abuse political roles and don't raise their individual level of accountability above the level of when they were rank and file citizens. Kids are still taught at young ages that they are descendants of, or that their people were 'slaves', without the question of 'why?' being asked or answered. They are not taught the true history of economy in the United States and how it's structure, no matter how many acts, amendments or policies that have been instituted, substantially crippled many peoples of color to the point where 'catching up' is near impossible. They are taught to 'have a dream' instead of learning how to 'create a productive new reality'. I too have worked in the human services field and I agree with Dawson in the position that mental health is one of the most serious issues that confronts so called 'black' people. Mental health guides decision making, discerns what is beneficial as opposed to what is harmful, and drastically influences one's view of themselves and others around them. If we examine closely, many of the behaviors detailed on this channel directly lead back to mental health and a dysfunctional culture that fosters them. An individual must have serious mental health problems if they are so quick to snuff out a life, knowingly transmit STI's, be gay but married to the opposite sex and abuse others without a thought in mind of how it would affect everybody around them as well as themselves. I urge anyone who took the time to read this, to look up Franz Fanon's book 'Black Skin, White Mask'. I apologize for the long post.
