For most of my life, I have lived in the inner city of Detroit. I used to walk with a couple of my childhood friends from Highland and Woodrow Wilson to Palmer Park. I was always amazed at how beautiful this area was, yet confused at times that, even though I couldn't afford to live in Palmer Woods, that most people I lived around, stopped trying to keep up the neighborhoods around where we lived! My mother tried very hard to keep our yard cleaned of the trash that people would just throw into our yard without a second thought, especially during the late 70's & into the 80's! Before my father passed away in 1980, during the 1960's and 70's, he would have me and sometimes my older brother in the backyard pushing our lawnmower and raking the grass and leaves, cleaning up around the house like most other families growing up at that time. Now it's almost 2022 and if you go into my old neighborhood, it's indicative of what the mid 1980's has brought it to. Destruction, Abandoned Dwellings and Decay!!! Some places have spiralled straight into Hell.... but Palmer Woods is still Beautiful 😍!!!

Thank you, Susan Hurst! 1 of my father's brother's used to live in the Palmer Woods area near the 8 Mile Rd East of Livernois. I've since forgotten the street. William passed away back in the early 1990's I think. But my family was separated by Racism, mostly. I hadn't seen my Uncle since the mid 1980's.

@@susanhurst3292 No, my Uncle didn't invite us over for holidays or anything like that. His wife was from India and for whatever reason, didn't care for people who didn't live up to her expectations! But she also, in her strange way, didn't care for African Americans, yet, many of my father's family were passing as Caucasians! I found that insulting as well as amusing, since she was married to my Uncle and she was a Person of Color! I NEVER tried to be someone other than me! During my life, depending on who is "Judging" me, to some, I was never Black enough and to others, I was never White enough! Racism is just too Stupid!!! I remember going to North Carolina in 1974 with my parents. My father was born there. We were visiting his sisters and when we arrived, since my father's family were living in the area they were in, they were living as "White!" My father could enter and leave by the front door, but my mother and I had to enter and leave by the side or back door! I was 13 then and that type of racism was new to me. I didn't understand it until about 4 years later. My father was African, Irish and Scottish. My mother was African and Cherokee. I have light skin, so even though my Birth Certificate says "Black," most people see me as something other than "Black!" As far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter, because I know that God Created me as His child. I'm just a man! What many people fail to embrace is that there's a Cemetery Plot waiting for ALL of us! Why waste time and energy Hating someone?!!? No one is responsible for the skin they're in!!!

Beautiful. The D baby 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. I have friends that live in Palmer Woods. Beautiful home but they can be something special to some people over there. One evening they had a gathering on the inside of their home and the security came in front and she waved and was like you’re good. Im like, huh? 😂 . I grew up on the Westside of Detroit and went to all DPD public schools. Walked home daily to and from school. Where the neighborhood fed you, loved you, chastised you. And this was growing up there the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s. I live in the suburb of Detroit now and there’s no comparison to growing up in the D. The love I will never forget. I will always be a girl from the D no matter my social status. Thank you for showing this. I am getting emotional

Detroit is a great city to lived though especially if the good neighbors and people watch either backs and take care of there communities and black and white leave together in peace and harmony, and also the Mayor of Detroit Mike Duggan and he's team is doing a good job in the transformation of the city ,we as a community have to be in control and take care of our on neighborhoods, the Mayor and city council and the police can only do so much though, but Detroit is a great place in invest in the inner city and also downtown detroit needs a good breakfast restaurant it lack a few things but it's getting there, and hopefully Apple will bring a outlet to downtown Detroit

Well what they're doing nowadays in the wealthiest neighborhoods in a number of the cities in America is they're tearing down some of the older houses and replacing them with some real monstrosities where they have not much of a yard in between the houses now . So when I see that this is the neighborhood deemed the wealthiest in Detroit I'm a little surprised some of the houses aren't bigger .

I'm partial to a symmetrical design. Those homes are hard to find for three reasons: 1. The garage tends to throw off the symmetry. 2. A perfect rectangle sometimes affects the internal configuration that's desired and windows end up in strange places. 3. Unless the property is wide enough, the driveway won't fit. Corner lots are the best.

Everyone was always at our home because we were the only house that had a pool and a movie theatre in it. One of our friends had an elevator in their house (very rare at the time). My dad and mom used to entertain alot. I had an incredible childhood. I wouldn't trade mine for anyone else's. I am so grateful for the incredible life and great parents I had. Our neighbor who asked my mom to help her start a business with her (she declined) was the woman who started Weight Watchers. Her name is Florine Mark. We used to carpool with her kids to school. I was born and raised in Michigan. West Bloomfield. So I do research about the state. Michigan has the most affordable community in the country through income to home price comparison…Flint and they also have some like this where the median income is 21,000 roughly with the median home price of 489,000 roughly 29 times the median income. DISGUSTING. Michigan is the most beautiful ARMPIT in the world no doubt. Someone should do a real study about who holds the majority of the wealth in Michigan. And then you will see who the scum really is.

@aprilkayydatsme7503 I mean, who do you want to see? It's like this here in Chiraq, too in the well to do areas they don't just hang out grilling on the front porch or driveway 😂

After the Detroit riots white families moved out and so did the big 3 auto makers w/ them…and there you have the decline of Detroit…population still hasn’t recovered and probably will never fully recover. Prosperity lost.
