My wife hauls horses around the country and we recently installed a 110 gallon fuel tank in the bed of her 2013 F-350 for a total fuel capacity of nearly 150 gallons. She can make it nearly halfway across the country before refueling towing a 15k lb trailer. Not only that but you can fill up in states where fuel is cheaper and have 1,500 miles or so of range to get through the expensive states without buying fuel.

I thought about hot shotting. But I usually drive a 2022 Volvo 860 VNL with a 500hp Volvo engine w/1800 foot pounds of torque. Towing a 53' dry van. Lightly loaded around 40,000 pounds I've gotten 12.2 mpg on flat roads and averaging 55 -60 mph. Going coast to coast at 80,000 lbs and averaging 70 mph I'm still getting 6.5 mpg. Hotshots don't really save any fuel compared to a semi, and they are far less comfortable at night.

Have a 2020 F-350 King Ranch dually, really like the truck! I've tried the Eco mode a few times and really haven't noticed much difference in fuel mileage. It really cuts back on the power though, really noticeable. In 56,000 miles of driving we've gotten over 20mpg three times (figured manually), must have had a tail wind and it was really nice! We've gotten in the 6's a few times pulling the camper on windy days (should have stopped and camped). We have a 50-gal auxiliary fuel tank in back for a total of 98 gallons, makes traveling real nice.

Only mods were my favorite Group IV in the crank, same brand in the trans and pumpkin, oversized canister air filter with heat shield and a Banks hard elbow. My diesel mechanic buddy recommended running between 1600 and 1900 rpm (72 mph) for best efficiency. Maybe 400 lbs of gear in the bed, extended cab full of family, usually averaged 23-24 mpg highway (hand calculated) here in the inter-mountain west. Was a great, if a little loud, truck.

I mean it’s getting comparable range to what my 5.0 L F150 is getting on the road if I hit any traffic. I can get 20 miles to the gallon if I’m lucky and don’t hit any traffic but I average around 18 normally in highway driving around 75 mph. So for a modern F350 diesel that’s doing pretty good. Now compared to my 3500 dodge Cummins from 2003 that got unloaded 25-28 miles to the gallon that’s not so Skippy. All of this new emissions technology just burns so much extra fuel.

FYI Ford added a 9th fuel injector on the 2023. It’s in the exhaust, so it does not add an injection afire detonation to burn off the DPF. Fuel dilution problem solved. It’s about time.

I bought my 2014 Toyota Tacoma in late 2013 hoping for more efficient truck from full size. I get 16 mpg average and on a good day 18 mpg on Interstate at 75ish. I do love its size and reliabliity though. I am impressed at the Fords mpg and its not even broken in fully.

Love Toyota but they are horrible on mpgs in my opinion. Part of that is the numerically high axle ratios
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c Жыл бұрын
@@slmjake I'd get 18-19mpg quite often with my 08 Tundra with the 5.7L V8 driving it easy, but you can't drive those trucks easy very long LOL. A trip from Idaho up to Washington and back a few times I got 21mpg with it, but mostly city I'd get 14-15mpg, and highway was normally 18mpg, occasionally on light traffic days I'd see 19mpg...all calculated manually as the truck didn't have the fancy digital trip computer LOL. The 4.30 gears made it nice for towing, but made it less fuel efficient overall, however if you wanna tow, you want the higher numerical gear ratio numbers...lower numerically gives you better fuel economy but less towing ability in the hills. My 99 Dodge Ram 1500 RC 4x4 with the 318 and 5 speed would get 25mpg on the highway all the time, but if I towed with it, it sucked because of the 3.55 gear ratio'd axles.

not bad, my 2017 6.2l gas Denali 1500 gets 13.4 mpg (according to the dash) in the city (mix of highway and surface streets), she has about 97k miles, a lift and 35" tires (which is mostly a milage killer) but I use it for work so I also have 260lbs of batteries, and about 400lbs of tools I carry on a daily basis, the 2 factors holding me back from going diesel is the price, and I am so afraid of accidently filling with gas out of habit lol, but so far she has served me well but now that I have been looking at a travel trailer my options are limited. I have always been a GM guy, but I have to say I've always looked at ford and am getting closer to wanting one.
