my first Beethoven 4. still the best. so unforced and such an unclassical performance. this is romantic in interpretation. Very free and spacious. Much like Walters 1958 Beethoven symphonic cycle.

Gould's most important concerto recording, showing the important material which Beethoven composed for the left hand in this work...a revelation. This is the best.

He could just read the score and have it all perfect in his mind, like an actor reading a play... he practiced physically, as he put it, a very small amount compared to most concert artists

Outstanding recording! In my opinion, the two best interpretations of Beethoven’s Fourth Concerto are this one and Backhaus&Bohm w/ Vienna Philarmonic Orchestra. By far!

Glenn Gould is also a huge fan of Beethoven. He plays most of Bee's most important works including sonatas, concertos, variations, bagatelles... but i don't know why he still didn't play "Waldstein" which is my favorite sonata by Beethoven. Anyway, like his playing Bach, i have never heard anyone playing Beethoven like him. It's unique!

Il punto più alto di questo grandioso capolavoro beethoveniano è, a mio parere, l'Andante con moto con quella COSMICA, stupenda, inarrivabile dialettica tra piano e orchestra. Basterebbe questo solo movimento a fare di Beethoven - insieme a Mozart - il genio più grande della storia umana. L'interpretazione di Gould e Bernstein - nonostante la giovane età del canadese - è tra le più storicamente significative che mai si siano udite.

En el andante se puede sentir el buen gusto de Gould de llevar a Beethoven a la idea de canto de voces como si estuviera interpretando Bach.

Bernstein didn't like Gould's approach on many concertos but still recorded them with him....

This was Bernstein's greatest collaboration with Gould, Gould showed us that Beethoven composed some important material for the left hand to perform in this work....surprise.

The truth is pretty much the opposite. When requested an opinion about Bernstein's contribution after an initial collaboration; Gould was asked if he were ready for further efforts. Replied Gould: "I'm ready, Bernstein's not ready", Verifiable whenlistening to the music.

指揮者とピアニストが、テンポに関して共通の意見に達していない事が分かる。そういう場合の演奏も、競っていて面白いのだが、それも限度がある。プラームスの第一番では、とうとうバーンスタインがマイクを持って、ピアニストとは共通の認識に他する事は出来なかったが、それでも良いのかと聴くと、良いと言うので演奏をすると、演説をする。バーンスタインは、青少年のためのオーケストラの番組を持っていて、マイクを持って解説する事には慣れていた。セルとは全く人間的に合わなかった。朝比奈先生は、セントチェチーリアで共演をされている。鷹揚な朝比奈先生は、細かい事は何にも云わないおおらかさを持っている。リハーサルは途中で打ち切って、ホテルの部屋で寝るように、グールドにアドバイスした。
