We look back on 15 years of Deus Ex with the original creators of the game, as well as the development team at Eidos-Montréal, currently working on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Even 15 years after Deus Ex you can see how hyped Spector is about his game when he talks about it. He did everything right

Michael McCann's score/soundtrack is so damn amazing. It's not been off my phone since it made its way on there in 2011. I'm so excited to hear his work on Mankind Divided.

Deus Ex has always been a series that just ticked all the right boxes for me, phenomenal stories, expansive worlds, branching quests and alternate routes. Deeply enjoyable and deeply engrossing -- and yes, this absolutely goes for Invisible War as well, which I feel people give an unfairly bad rap. Smaller maps, slightly more linear gameplay, universal ammo, streamlined health/augs... all were terrible aspects, no doubt, but the fundamental gameplay remained the same and it will always be a Deus Ex title.
@mdo8 жыл бұрын
+Sabin1981 I totally agree with you mate. I guess the thing that hit me the hardest was the universal ammo. I understood the dumbing down of hacking and lockpicking, the simplification of interface and inventory and the small map size. But the universal ammo was like the worst game design choice ever. Still, I loved the game, finished it 5 times, two times on hardest and explored pretty much every nook and cranny. I loved that it gave me complete control over my choices and that there was no bad guy. This lack of forced morality is what I think made the game unique and worth playing.
@sabin19818 жыл бұрын
Mircea Dogaru Goddamn that universal ammo trash, seriously :( I'll never deny that there were a lot of elements pointlessly streamlined (well, "for couch and controllers" kinda answers that one, though the PS2 version of DX wasn't so butchered) - and that universal ammo stuff will never be forgiven - but hey... the Peqods and QueeQuegs storyline alone made up for it XD
@mdo8 жыл бұрын
+Sabin1981 it definitely made up. I believe the entire game stood up on the saying "Nothing is what it seems."
@SaturnineXTS8 жыл бұрын
+Sabin1981 I wasn't a fan of the story itself either. I felt some plot points were forced and didn't like the endings. The shape of the world itself wasn't very appealing to me either.

Spot on. Hugely underrated title. tbh.... probably more atmosphere than mankind divided for me.

I play it every 2 years and finish in the hardest mode especially in human revolution, they did an amazing blend of everything a gamer wants in their game: boss fights, character upgrade, sotryline, scripts, dynamics. When people asked me to finish playing cyperpunk 2077 i always brag of DX
@lelxrv8 жыл бұрын
Human Revolution had something, that very few games have - very strong philosophy and idea behind it. It wasn't only about this or that character, or certain daily experiences (even though it's incredibly important too). Micro and macro level storytelling complimented each other and created such a strong vision. Convincing and inspiring. Great in scope, yet full of little details. Amazing.

+Josh Jeggs that's a shame. I'm afraid we won't see a remaster of Deus Ex. I know the graphics and occasionally the controls are a hard pill to swallow for what we're used to today but the game is still a master-piece worth playing. I am one of those guys they spoke about in the video that still plays the game. Just finished it again on realistic a few months ago. Totally worth it.

I installed Deus Ex for the first time _this_ _year_. Was not disappointed. I had already finished Invisible War a year earlier though. It has nothing on the original, but it is not a _bad_ game like many people say. Besides the technical problems it does not have as much of a hard-edged feel and I can understand if some people feel let down by that.
@Jakeltons7 жыл бұрын
I agree invisible war isnt as bad a game as players of the first game will make it out to be. As a game it's pretty good but as a worthy follow up to the first game, it's not. For me personally I think the game just took a step back and really scaled down due to it being developed with the Xbox in mind.

+TheJayson8899 There is the _Deus_ _Ex_ - _Revision_, done by modders and available on Steam. But it hasn't got very good reviews. Major technical problems and some changed gameplay mechanics. There are also lots of other minor mods out there.

I'm disappointed that they didn't admit the immense failure of DX2, it was not about more choices. It was about more money by adding extremely weak consoles as platform which put back the capabilities in part even before DX1. The game lost it's soul and people hated it for that. DX3 was better but it's still a mass market game just as DX4 was. Understandable but the soul of DX1 never came back. You could replay DX1 3 times and be amazed to find entire level segments you have never seen before. This means that the game included a huge amount of content you didn't easily find. You had to dig it out. Producers don't do that anymore, every level costs money and they now are selling levels as "addons". It's the opposite of the DX1 approach where they gave you more than you could find. Another money grab was to block people from modding the game, making it better. Understandable as they would introduce free content while they want to after-sell levels and weapons to you. That's why people are not amazed anymore, that's why they play DX1 still after 16 years and barely anyone is interested in DX2 DX3 or DX4. They lost their soul. The games are still good but far from what it was once.
