Chased the devastating Moore EF5 tornado. Video is primarily shot around I35 and SW19th and just off S Broadway to the east. Brief gap in filming whilst we picked up the wife of a chase partner who lived too close to the path to be sure of safety. Debris fell all around including in their neighbourhood. The roar of the tornado was unbelievable and is evident about 3 and a half minutes in if you turn up the volume.

I live in okc and my dad lives in Moore. Keep in mind we do get ample warnings but most of the time it turns out to not be a big storm. Just like they make a big deal of it snowing and it never snows. However, this tornado was horrible. We’ve had previous devastating ones. This tornado went on a long journey it was horrifying to watch on tv. After this one if they think the weather gets bad schools let kids out early work let employees off early people get home and safe. The down side if we did this for everytime the weather is supposed to do something which 85% of the time it’s not half as bad as they say it is, then when it rains we wouldn’t go anywhere. Living in Oklahoma your entire life it’s just another day. Tornados comes and goes as fast as it arrives. Most oklahomans sit in their driveway drinking beer watching the storms blow by.

this one is pretty crazy. You can see the vertical cloud that is the tornado, but it's not even a funnel, and doesn't even have a funnel shape! It's like just a thick column.
@davidtimms3201

That is the case with massive wedge tornadoes. They are multi vortex, spin off satellites and constantly change shape.
@kleinemaus6094
@kleinemaus6094 3 жыл бұрын
That's called a condensation funnel. They take many shapes but as a previous commenter said this is a wedge. Multivortices, low visibility (most often these are rain wrapped) and the area that actually is the tornadic wind force is bigger than what you see of the condensation funnel.

I lived there for about 12 years. Every year there were storm's. We had about 4 or 5 close calls and one started twisting the house onthe foundation. My kids and I were living about 1 street away from 4th street where it crossed the highway. We got some light damage to our house. The real terrifying thing was that we were in my car, across the highway. It was coming straight at us. I couldn't comprehend what I was looking at. My kids could and yelled, "There it is!", pointing at it. I floored it, south. Away from it's path. I was easily going 60 mph when I went through that intersection they were recording from. You can see the light and the water tower. I don't know if you see my car. Debris was coming down as we raced south. I'm so glad we moved away. I don't miss the heat. I don't miss the storm's. I really think there are an extraordinary number of people suffering PTSD there just from the tornados. If I remember correctly, exactly 7 days later there were a bunch of smaller tornados that skipped around town. There were EF-0's to EF-3's? I can't remember. I really hated that town.

Moore made the sirens not as loud as they were in this tornado in the newer electronic sirens. The ample coverage per those sirens is only one mile, whilst the older tones made the sirens cover the entire city, the frequencies were 850/1020 for dual tone.. There was a special tone used called Major 3 that carried as far as 6 miles out. Now they make the sirens blend in with the others which isn't a good idea. Like.. at all.

I'm thoroughly convinced that Moore Oklahoma is the epicenter of huge F5 tornadoes. It's where all the weather converges. The hot dry air from the southwest, moving across the plains. Pulling the humid air from the gulf states. With the cold air from the jetstream dropping down from the rockies.

And I asked if I could stay at my aunts house to watch tv and relax cuz we were in an rv for about 2-3 days with no cable my mom said (with her Scottish accent “only if you’re aunt says it’s okay than I am okay with it” she came to America from Scotland in the 70’s I’m from South Carolina cuz that is where she went too (clearly) anyways I got a call from my mom when she took my aunt to a store in another county cuz her car wouldn’t start and she drove our rv and she was warning me about the Tornado that was about to hit and she put my aunt on the phone my aunt told me where her storm cellar keys were and what I needed to grab I already knew being from the south and all she told me to grab her cat and her cat carrier I was already planning to grab the cat . I only had maybe a total of 2-5 mins to spare after we got off the phone. Before it actually flattened her house and I’ve never had my mom so worried about me I bet I received about 50-100 texts from her the time service was reconnected ? And when she seen me again? I never felt her hug me so tight. I was 15 and so scared I didn’t wanna believe that. If I had the footage I would show you to prove it but I don’t unfortunately …

Last year ,April 22nd 2020, Onalaska, Texas, my hometown got hit by an F3 tornado. Our lives are forever changed now. God bless those whom have lost their lives due to a tornado. We lost two friends that horrible day. God bless anyone who has been affected by a tornado. As the saying goes, What dosen't kill us makes us stronger. Yeah, that's a true statement to a degree. However myself and neighbors of ours all feel very uneasy when a storm breaks out. I used to think that nothing really scares me. I was wrong. Now during a bad storm I'm outside on the porch pacing back and forth staring at the sky, waiting, wondering what's going to happen. Oh and don't even get me started about a nighttime storm. Oh brother. LOL.

11 days later the widest tornado would hit El Reno. I remember this tornado. I was eight at the time. Me and my family were in the truck going back home and we did not notice that there was an EF5 on the stinking ground. My dad had the radio on and it said there was an tornado on the ground. The closest I have ever been to a tornado is looking at the back of his truck, and seeing this tornado. We would go back home to get into the closet and pray that it would not hit us. If it would of followed us, we would not be alive right now. With EF5's you must be underground, chances are of you surviving is slim to none. A few days after the twister hit. This military soldier gave me and my siblings a little teddy bear, to cheer us up. I still have it in my room, although looking at it, it reminds me of this exact day. Then, 11 days afterwards, El Reno got hit by the widest tornado ever recorded, which resulted in 8 deaths. Quite devastating and terrifying. Someone was describing what happened to each of the 3 professional storm chasers, and let me tell you, that made me shook to my core. Whether you live here in Oklahoma or a state that gets tornados, please be careful y'all. Hearing that description made me realize that tornados are not playing around. I knew that tornados were destructive, but hearing what happened made it even worse and quite frightening. Their job is to destroy everything it gets its hands on, within the several minutes or hour it gets, before it dissipates. I know some people say that we sit out and watch tornados, of course we don't do that. As soon as I hear the whelms, I grab my belongings already by the door, with my shoes, and jacket, yell for my family to hurry and in the shelter we go. Waiting and waiting... in the warm shelter. Stay safe y'all, especially from the heat. Triple digits for a week; UNCALLED FOR! Don't y'all love weather?

Hello! The EF5 tornado was not near my house, but we were in the truck and so we were fleeing from it, as we were making it home. I was not close enough for it to pick up the truck, not that close at all. But I could look at the back window and see the twister from afar. It was not as close as you would think it was, but I thought it was going to follow us home. And I could not hear it, all I heard was cars honking, tornado sirens going off, the radio, my dad talking to us telling us what we’re gonna do once we got home, and rain hitting the windshield. It was chaotic, way too much things going on at once. The twister destroyed parts of our town and it was just incredible. That part of town is a well populated place, you have Walmart, Sam’s Club, Lowes, the Warren theater, a bank, Braum’s; it was absolutely terrifying.

Just as I started riding my bike and it started to rain and the clouds were unusually dark and Great Bend's tornado sirens went off and I was back at the house in less than a minute and in the basement before my dad had the key in the ignition of the car to come after me.

When I lived in Kansas over 20 years ago I remember just hearing of a tornado warning and everyone stayed home but I see things have changed. Was this rush hour or are people not phased by sirens anymore?

Most of the people in the video are driving away from the tornado.

Also tornados happen very quickly. Sometimes in a matter of a few minutes so people are gonna be out as we do. Once the tornado has formed most people take precautions. Most here are driving away from the storm.

When I think of the Moore tornado, the siren is what stands out in my mind. Chilling.

It’s crazy to hear how loud the wind is even from such a distance. Sounds like you a quarter mile away but it looks like you are a few miles.

That tornado was so big, you could almost lose where it was in the storm

Darn it, the ordinary person who isn't equipped with radar monitors in their cars and vehicles don't stand a chance. In weather conditions like this. You wouldn't know where and just how close a tornado was until it was far too late. And even some experts get caught. That thing was an all encompassing marauding monster 🌪

This is why people shouldn't chase unless they at least have spotter training and a laptop to monitor the radar, a HAM radio is even more beneficial. To date, the twistex crew is the only documented chasers to die. The El Reno tornado, which happened merely 11 days after this one, broke the books on our understanding of large tornadic behavior. It was rain wrapped, shifted multiple times, and the actual vortex was MUCH larger than normally thought to be. All of these factors are what sadly killed the twistex team. It was unprecedented and I pray it doesn't occur again. If you're gonna chase, please for the love of God do it from far away unless you are trained and have a real reason, such as a data gathering device like Tim Samaras', to be anywhere near the condensation funnel.

I survived the May 3rd 1999 tornado.. we loss the west side of our home. We lived in the housing addition by West Moore High We move to Houston 2011 but my 3 kids were up in Moore seeing their grandparents when this hit We have always told them to drive away from it, and that’s what they did. Drove towards Norman and watched come in, when they made it back they were digging their grandparents out of their home
