After a long, painful, and poorly communicated wait, the new Adobe Captivate was released on June 29th 2023. eLearning Developer Joe Suarez shares his reaction to the announcement video and provides his thoughts and first impressions.

My marketing video would be much shorter: “Captivate, now half the price of an Articulate 360 subscription! Get it now, before Articulate allows you to buy Rise seperate from the 360 suite.”

Great look at the video. Starting with a steam train was... a choice. Looking forward to seeing some more reviews of the tool in the coming weeks as we all get to grips with it.

I agree the marketing is all over the place for this product! 😄 It is in no way ready to call itself a 'revolutionary' learning design tool yet. Still, there's no denying that the price point for the feature-set on offer is very good value.

I don't think you can do an accurate review when looking at their promo reel, as it's just guessing at the extent of functionality this stage.

Great overview! The intro on that Adobe launch video was....well...cringe! It's not like this was the second coming of Jesus or something.

Chesus Christ! For a company that is all about media, design and communication their video is amateurish as it can be. I can't believe one of the biggest media companies in the world created this for their own product... Wow, wow, wow! The previous Captivate is very powerful however it took way longer to design really stand out courses with it because a lot of stuff had to be tediously created/made. You couldn't just click one button to have an action and a lot of other stuff happening. Now I feel that this process has been better automated.

Adobe don’t really care for this piece of software. It’s mostly used by their learning peeps and thought they would throw it out for some extra marketing stream. Why would they put focus on this, when they really care about the creative tools and AI.
