Parenting is considered to be extremely difficult task, and more so when you are the father of the world's most talented chess player. Meet Rajinikanth, father of D. Gukesh. Rajinikanth is a doctor by profession, but he gave up his practice so that he could focus on Gukesh's chess. In this freewheeling interview, we speak about the role of father, how did he manage important things like - sponsorships, competition, academics, training and much more.

This is something to always keep in mind. Before the Candidates 2024, Gukesh wasn’t even on my radar in the chess world. Then all of a sudden, it seems like he’s everywhere, but it’s not true. This kid has been at it for years, working hard to reach this point. Success is always the tip of the iceberg. Hard work and dedication is everything beneath the surface.

Honestly, this is the best interview I've seen in many years. I don't remember when was the last time I saw any interview of more than 30 min at one stretch. The reason i could see is everything what Mr. Rajinikanth tells is very natural and honest. There's no wonder why Gukesh is doing very good. Because such nice talent is inculcated inside him by his parents, coaches and supportive teams. Thanks to everyone and Sagar too.

Very good support given by Gukesh's parents...Huge thanks for this talent... My request to his parents is to provide enough support that he becomes world champion and perhaps he continues to evolve... I had heard many players becoming distressed after sometime... This should not happen ...

This interview reminds me of the Phogat sisters' story. How much does one have to sacrifice to create a champion, the only difference is there at first it was kind of the father's choice and here it was all Gukesh from the beginning and his dad just supported him all throughout. Very inspiring. Also kudos to Microsense, for sponsoring such young talents.

briliiant and needy parents viewpoint for sports persons. his take on coaches , travelling plan, tournament selection as well what is expected from his son and what parents can contribute is from onground exp... To become good in sports along with the technique, physical fitness, tournament exp plus a dedicated person who can give his full time to the kid is very important.
