Former TIFF Rising Star Devery Jacobs discusses the final season of RESERVATION DOGS, what the show has meant to her, and the future of Indigenous representation in media.
This interview was conducted and shot on July 7, 2023, before the SAG-AFTRA strike began.
Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs was born in Kahnawà:ke Mohawk territory and is an actor and filmmaker. She is best known for her award-winning performances in Rhymes for Young Ghouls (13) and The Sun at Midnight (17). Her recent short film Rae (17) won Ellen Monague Award for Best Youth Work at the 2017 imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival and screened at the 2018 Palm Springs International ShortFest. Her credits also include roles on the TV shows Cardinal (17- ), American Gods (17- ), and The Order (18- ). Jacobs has worked on the other side of the camera, and her recent short film as writer-director, Rae, was an official selection of the 2018 Palm Springs Shortfest and won Best Youth Work at 2017 ImagineNATIVE Film Fest. The feature film This Place (19), co-written by Jacobs, was recently named a recipient of the Talent to Watch fund from Telefilm Canada, and Jacobs is currently producing a film adaptation of the radical-feminist play What I Call Her (20).
