you're right. even though I was team Paxton from season 1, I never disliked Ben. and there's no doubt that devi made some very questionable and hurtful decisions.but I found it shitty when ben got together with aneesa after he saw her hanging out with devi. in a sense, ben got together with her out of spite and aneesa is nothing but a devi's replacement to him. this was shitty of him. he also attacked devi when she was in a vulnerable situation in both her school and her home, and made her figure out how to make aneesa stay just so that he can date her (while clearly having strong feelings for devi). he only thought of Devi just about when she became more inclined toward paxton and she was trying to mend her relationship with paxton. like you said, paxton accepted her and how she is and for this, I liked even more this season.

I think it was rather clear Ben’s character had this plot of ‘I’m gonna bully you so hard you’ll never assume I like you’ so we cant say that he didn’t help her after the coyote attack cause they were “enemies”. In fact, it makes more sense for Ben to step up and help her rather than Paxton. She was much closer to Ben at the time considering all she had going with Paxton was the “have sex with me” thing. The only times Ben actually showed he cares were when he drove her to Malibu and fixed her situation with her friends, then the bathroom scene after Paxton rejected her. Otherwise I think Ben just crushed on her since she was basically the only girl that looked his way. The fact she matched his intelligence was just a bonus, not the main factor in my opinion. Because he switched to the next girl that gave him attention (Aneesa) right away, and no I doubt its because she’s the closest he could get to having someone like Devi, cause clearly he had the banter with Aneesa, but she didn’t match his intelligence and competitive like Devi did.

YAS FINALLY I SEE SOMEONE TALK ABOUT THIS SCENE. ben appeared to be angry at aneesa and he looked at her differently line he was rethinking things (moment of doubt) there was a lot of foreshadowing this season.

yesss to this!! I've been rewinding trying to understand how/why Paxton fell for her. Her standing up for herself at the end (vs any other girl who'd just say yes to be with him, even in secrecy) I think really confused him. LOVE this for her.

Tv shows and movies love to go down the predictable, boring, safe route by bringing the main girl back to the “nice guy” or “nerdy guy” - once she learns the “jock” she had a crush on is one-dimensional and a douchebag and an airhead. I hope NHIE doesn’t do that and let’s Devi and Paxton stay in their relationship, because they have developed Paxton’s character and given him an arc.
