Stage 5 is especially wicked with the way they do the curving animation of the background just before entering the cave. Everything about this game screams quality, atmosphere, and immersion. Yeah, it can be misleading since we're so used to lots of resources in games usually meaning we'll seal the deal. I recall seeing an Expert mode clear in Devil Engine way back and the player milked the stage 1 boss for like ten minutes straight or something crazy just to have boatloads of missiles and lives to survive the rest of the run. Wild stuff.

ha yeah, it was a wild time chipping away at this one! If you do jump back in, go easy on yourself because it is one of the more demanding shmups out there.

Thanks for watching Felipe! The game is serious business but you can pull it off with a decent approach and sticking with it until it's done. We can definitely go through cycles and various emotions and it can feel tough at times.

100%. The second half of stage 4 specifically is pretty much a stage from one of those games, from what I recall.

​@@Zillion3170I actually haven't played it. I think I only have Lightening Force and THunder Force 3 or 4. I don't recall which one since it's been ages.

@Shmuptopia Lightening Force is the domestic version of TF4. But you're not missing too much with TF6. It looks pretty, but doesn't have that distinct sound or difficulty. Devil Engine feels more like a TF game in my opinion...cheap deaths and all.

Hey, Mike! I got your comment and intend to respond sometime Thursday when I can set aside time for a proper response. It's been an insanely busy day.

I sampled Ignition briefly when it first launched but didn't commit to it since I had other things on the go. I'll eventually get at it. Ignition possesses a level of aggression that is not present in Devil Engine's very hard mode. It's almost as though it's between very hard and Expert mode, but it's also been quite a while since I jumped in so it might feel more balanced now compared to before. Time will tell.

Thanks for the reply man, ughh your spot on, it’s def more aggressive then very hard, just a constant barrage of stuff thrown at you. I think in time I will get better at it, I’ve gotten significantly better at very hard, I even managed to pass the laser beams on stage 5 with no deaths last night! What I did with very hard is played for a few hours without using my bombs or primary weapon. I just dodged and absorbed. I did this on the bosses as well and it really helped learn the patterns. I didn’t realize bosses die automatically after awhile even without shooting them. I found the mech boss on stage 3 you can hang in the back of him most of time the same goes for the last bosses first form second phase. I’ve beaten them both now using that method without catching a death. I have a real rough time on the final boss last form when the screen goes white. I see what you do with going forward absorbing then pulling back and going forward and absorbing, but for some reason I just can’t catch the rhythm of it. I also retried the prequel stage after playing very hard for awhile and did really well on it. My god what an awesome stage, I wish it was attached to the main game. The boss is so awesome

Glad you enjoyed it! That's really tricky to gauge. In ways, I feel like it's a mix of both. I think someone needs to be skilled enough to have a solid grasp on how to piece together more complex positional stuff in sequence with everything else that flows seconds later, and so on. It's not that you need to pull off crazy maneuvers or survive dense bullet patterns like in bullet hell games but a certain degree of experience in dissection specifically will go a long way. Trust that helps!

Hey, Mike - things have been swamped the last couple of days, hence why I haven't responded to your other comments yet. I figured I'd at least fire off a short answer for this question though. I've actually never seen Benbo before, so I'm not sure what that means in relation to the game in question.

I just did a 1cc run and got it, but may have been my lifetime score that unlocked it which is pretty high. O have checked all of the options and menus. Maybe another ship?
