They are pretty good if you buy a good make. I recently took them off of another bass which is my main one to play and they had been there 6years and only just started to peel.

@@DevilAndSons did the glue ruin the guitar or is it ok? I just got a satin acoustic and don't want to mess it up lol

I've used these a lot and never have any problems, but I've only used them on the fretboard.

@@DevilAndSons , I purchased some inlay decals for a couple of my basses many years ago. I'm finally getting around to applying them. I have a cheap Squire jazz fretless, and I seem to think the neck is not even wood. I believe it's some sort of man made wood-like material (forget the name), but many players love it and prefer it! I happen to enjoy it very much on my fretless. So, yes... I am going to put some on that bass and perhaps one of my others that actually DOES have a wood fretboard. BTW, that guitar with the beetles suspended in epoxy is SO COOL!

@@DevilAndSons A Gibson Flying V kit. Emerald green stain, gold-plated hardware, white pearlescent pickguard, and rose vine neck stickers. I am an artist and could paint the neck's designs, but I love the abalone looking stickers. 😀

I think it would help if you are a beginner. Personally though as long as there are side dots on the neck I find them more useful than the markers on the fretboard, so removable markers is a good idea - when you are confident you can always go back to a plain board or change the design.

You Definitely can rub them back down and it helps. I have in the past varnished over them, if anything it exaggerates the raised feeling so you need to put enough coats on to then rub back smooth. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I think there are a few steps to go before that.

I normally use a fretboard cleaner made by various guitar brands, but people do use alcohol. In the UK I mix methylated spirits with distilled white vinegar (50:50) which means it evaporates quickly and isn't quite as strong as using the meths on it's own. Apparently though methylated spirits aren't a thing in North America and alcohol is what is used.

If you remove the strings you can reuse them, but I would recommend that you only partly take them off. If you turn the tuning pegs until the string is really loose they will unwind from the tuning peg end and you can take them out there, but keep them in at the the bridge end. Then you can put them back in when you finish. I have a video about putting strings on that will help.

I have used a company called jokomo before. I think they are on ebay but have their own website toom I thought they were a great quality and also had a good range of designs.

I have and it was fine except that I would recommend enough clear coats to have a completely smooth surface as opposed to a slightly raised one where the decals are, otherwise there is a risk of the surface slowly getting chipped to reveal it. A bit like how I mention clear coating over a hand painted surface in my clear coat video.
