I am building a DIY Les Paul style kit. This video sure helps explain a lot for me to use to set up my kit. Great explanation about the bridge. I thought at first you had 3 saddles backward, but you made sense of it. Now I need to check my bridge to see if the saddles are facing the same way. Thank you for this video and now, on to the full set up. Have a great day.

That is the best and most accurate representation of the mechanical nuances of a tune-o-matic Nashville styled bridge. The close ups and time spent discussing the bridge and tail piece, as well as some of the alternate choices, is very thorough and leads well into the setup and intonation of this system. Fantastic.

Do you know is there anything you can do to sort the rattling buzzing retainer wire on the tunomatics.looks like a g string sort of size,seems a bit wasteful to chuck them due to that.or is swapping to using springs an option.

Sorry, for some reason I only just saw this comment. They are quite important to hold the screw in pace but if they are rattling I think they aren't engaged with the screw thread correctly. They may need a bit of bending. Also, if they aren't actually doing anything then maybe they could just come off?

thanks for this! I just bought an SG and spent last night bummed out that the strings were dead and buzzing on the frets, once I really got into playing it. I watched this, learned the anatomy and mechanisms, then I put new strings on and made some pretty dramatic adjustments and it is "fixed". I was almost going to take it back, but it was just way off/ strings needed to be raised.

Hi . I've been playing Les Paul Guitars for about 40 years , which is about how long I've been playing Guitar . I've learned a lot about Guitar Repair , such as Neck Adjustment , Pickup Installation , Setting Intonation , etc . But some of the details that you shared in this Video I never knew and I never thought about . I knew that the Saddle Nut Radius needs to match the Fretboard Radius , but I guess I've always had my Bridge in backwards . That explains why I always have a problem with my Intonation . Thank you so much for making this Video . I hope you're doing well and staying safe . 😃 Thank you for taking the time to put in the time and effort to create this Video . Spot on explanation. The whole better resonance/sustain from a fully screwed down tail piece is something I have yet to see any proof of so I'm still doing a medium tension with thru-hole stringing. It may be another "tone-woods" debate that never gets anywhere.
@DevilAndSons
@DevilAndSons 3 жыл бұрын
I think you are very likely to be right about that. Thanks for commenting.
@raax7647
@raax7647 3 жыл бұрын
@@DevilAndSons wait, do you mean that piece that's held by the two pillers and the tension of the string because funny thing i was setting my bridge hight and i didn't think to loosen the strings so the pressure sorta pulled out one of the pillers, i was already gonna replace the strings anyway, so i would use some sorta wood glue to hold it back after i restring it soon, though a fully screwed tail in this case may not help since the whole puller was pulled but idk
@DevilAndSons
@DevilAndSons 3 жыл бұрын
Wow. The whole thing pulled out? Actually a bit if wood glue or super glue should hold it back, and perhaps screwing the whole tailpiece down low will mean it has less give and be less likely to pull out.

Dude, you are so good at this kind of thing. This was a bit more “101” than I needed to go, but I ended up watching start to finish to learn some more detail just based on how great your photography and explanations were! These are the kinds of videos I would make if I had a British accent!! Haha cheers!!

This is the last word on the Tuneomatic. Excellent! Well done. The video does show how annoying slot head screws are. Hex socket heads would be great in this application.
@DevilAndSons
@DevilAndSons 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. Yes, I hate slot head screws. In my workshop I have a lot of small drawers filled with different screws all carefully organised by size but slot head screws either get thrown away or occasional dropped in my mixed box of things to sort out one day.

quick tip - put a large rubber eraser behind the tailpiece when taking off and resetting brand new strings - this keeps the tailpiece in place so it doesn't fall off and scratch the guitar.

Thanks for the comment. I actually have a PRS SE in the workshop at the moment and I'll be filming a video about the bridge on that. I do have a longer set up video, the idea is that all the elements in that are applicable to any guitar then videos like this augment it to make guitar model specific.
