Great video didn’t know too much about the Seiko side of the house. Refreshing to see a real watch enthusiast that is not just about branding but about real passion for watches.

I too love watches, particularly chronos, and particularly Seiko. And speakers & HiFi. And jazz and Bach. We're basically the same person. 😉

Wow, such a different video John. Thanks, so much. The engineering feat is a video series in itself! Ten years ago I wanted to buy myself a Seiko Automatic, but I felt it was too Chunky. So I ended up with a Casio Chrono which I still have. It takes a beating. Then I inherited my Grandpa's Earnest Borel watch, and after I got used to it, I only wear it once or twice a week. It is an automatic, made in the 1950s, with the kaleidescope dial. A few years ago I met a watch enthusiast (OK, watch and clock Maniac!) and he had an automatic watch from 1803! I am not even a watch guy, but I do appreciate the engineering, Cheers mate.

Very interesting talk on the race to produce the first automatic chronograph. I had understood that Seiko's 6138 3002 "Jumbo", with two sub-dials, was actually first, beating the simpler 6139 due to a production problem with the latter causing a delay to the release. I love the 3002, due to its huge size, crisp grey dial, proud, flat crystal with bevelled edge and the lemon-yellow chrono seconds hand.

Love this video. Covered everything to be appreciated about the 7016s. Awesome collection, esp your red/blue mantagraphs which i have never seen before! Is this branch of your collection purely seiko? Because if not, im sure the citizen cal. 8110 would be of interest to you. Its like the 7016 and the 6138 had a baby.

Enjoyed the presentation very much. I did not realize that my favorite configuration, the self-winding chronograph was such a recent innovation. Having literally ‘grown up with it,” I just assumed it had always been there, but I hadn’t been paying attention. I have two chronographs myself and I love reading about their movements and history, etc. I was aware of Seiko’s innovation, reputation, etc. and that Grand Seiko was not to be confused with regular Seiko, but I wasn’t aware of the history which led to two different plants and culture. Was not at all aware of the 7015/7016 designs, or the stacked sub dial-very cool. Great collection, but I think our tastes diverge slightly, I’m not a fan of the square face/case. I guess I have a lot more to learn about watches, thanks for the informative and entertaining video.

I really enjoy your watch videos and hope for more. I know you love the mechanical but I think your in-depth collection of vintage Seiko Chronographs really deserves the addition of the worlds first analog quartz chronograph from them the 7A28. Not only a fine looking watch in all its iterations but also technically an incredible watch regardless of brand, it would make so much sense in your collection. I love some of the old Soviet chronographs, as I type I am wearing the first chronograph to do an EVA in space, the Poljot Strela. Mine is from 1971 and is in new old stock condition and keeps perfect time and looks beautiful with its green lumed lozenge hands. I also have a mint grey dial Sturmanskie that I found in a local flea market shoe box full of plastic watches and because the lady thought it not working as the battery was dead I got for €2! A quick wind and off it went, even had its original blue sharkskin strap and to round of the soviet iron I have a modified version of the Sturmanskie movement in a Buran branded watch with not only the chronograph but also regulator and with a true 24 hour dial. These old Soviet chronographs are pretty much bullet proof! Oh, and I own a Grand Seiko, have had it for six years now and it still performs faultlessly. I hope you are enjoying yours!

My first chrono was the Seiko Pogue. I then got the hots for vintage Heuers. I still have a NOS Heuer Silverstone.

Another chronograph fan here. I lean more towards manual wind movements personally, and have a Speedmaster and a '64 Heuer Carrera, but appreciate the race to make the first automatic movement in a chronograph. It's interesting that the recently released Omega '57 Speedmaster chrono dropped the auto winder to make it thinner, and also has the stacked 60min/12hr sub-dial at the 3 position. Enjoyed the talk!

Great and interesting video! I keep teasing myself with the idea of a mechanical chronograph, but I worry about the cost of servicing these (more complicated) watches. One day, perhaps :)

Seiko auto Chronograph is the first Commercially Available to Ordinary people ,hence should be deemed as the real WORLD FIRST for such function and capabilities, the others claimed to launch but was not commercially available for sale , only via product or publicity launch or communications materials.

What is your opinion on belt drive versus direct drive turntables its been said belts can never match direct drives oace and rhythm

I have been wanting to ask you about your cat because, an Exotic called Wilma, has taken to walk across my Linn LP12 that is on its closed lid. Now I usually listen with eyes closed and what happens is I note a sudden break of the rhythm and then another when she steps on and then off the turntable. Does this happen to you but I have not seen any lid over your turntable?
