SAFETY WARNING!!! Hey carpenters - head's up!!!! Saws that are marked with the little green or black dot that are supposed to indicate that the saw has been officially "inspected" and marked as good-to-go by DeWalt's safety experts may STILL have the faulty part installed. I know this because I bought a saw from Lowe's back in Feb 2022 (6 months after DeWalt's recall) that I MADE ABSOLUTELY SURE had the safety inspection dots marked on both the saw arm and next to the serial number before I left the store with it. I'd heard about the recall so it was important to me that the saw had been officially refurbished by DeWalt and marked as safe. I used my miter saw regularly until early June 2023 when, while I was using the saw on a jobsite, there was a sudden explosion in my face scaring the living daylights out of me. I thought for sure I'd be bleeding from somewhere and began checking my body for blood/ holes. Although I found sharp plastic shrapnel all around the worksite I was miraculously unscathed. I couldn't believe that even THE NEW part that DeWalt had installed to replace the old one was STILL defective! "Boy their engineers really screwed this one up" I thought. I tried to report it to DeWalt via phone and their website and could only get through to their robot customer support. One of the robots took down my serial number and mailing address. In the following couple weeks while I was considering returning the saw to Lowe's, a replacement part showed up in my mail. It was called a "rear guard assembly". When I was installing the new, metal, replacement rear guard assembly and removing what remained of my old plastic one it was only THEN that I realized that I'd had the old faulty plastic rear guard assembly on the saw ALL ALONG (Again, I didn't even know what the heck a "rear guard assembly" was until all this went down. I'm a woodworker not a miter saw engineer.) The inspectors hadn't ever actually changed out the faulty part before re-shipping out the saw!!!! So buyer beware!!!!

Some months back I was making some cuts with my son and plastic exploded all over the place. I gathered up all the plastic pieces and still wasn't sure what had broken. After some research I ordered what I believed were all the parts I needed. It's 3 separate plastic pieces I never had installed until trying to today and finding this video. Dewalt never proactively tried to send me a replacement, and now I'm stuck with worthless, dangerous plastic parts I can't even use. I had no idea I'd been using my saw unsafely ever since the incident. They're sending me the repair kit, but i shouldn't have had to contact them. Great job Dewalt... save a few cents on a cheap part and risk the safety of your customers.

I just got mine today after 8 weeks. The old one snapped just taking the screw out. I found it easier to start the bottom screw first then swing it up into position for the top one. Thanks for the Video.

Many thanks. I had to seperate the replacement as I only had a short tork driver. Went to put it back and couldn't remember how it went together...had it upside down🙄. Watched this and had it sorted in no time 😁. Thanks again...big help

I got mine in the mail a month back, but then moved and the piece is lost somewhere in a sea of boxes. I set the saw up for a quick basement project with the old plastic piece in and it just caught and exploded- unbelievable how quick and violently it happened. Very Stupid of me to not put the new metal piece in immediately, I’m lucky I still have ten fingers.

Good video, Thanks for posting, I waited 4 months for thepart to arrive. The instructions pictures are small and not easy to read even with magnifying glass. Your video was a big help.

The instructions sat to put the back screw in first. You can also remove the moving part by squeezing it together till the inside pins disengage and sliding it out. Careful not to lose the spring. This give easy access to all the screws. Putting the inner part is extremely easy. Just do the same thing you did to take it out.

Probably took 8 weeks for me too. Contrary to some of the other videos on KZfaq, the blade will not center in the middle of the new guard. The blade ends up right of center in the new guard. Seemed wrong at first, but it's just the way it is. The instruction sheet DeWalt provides is a joke. Impossible to read to to size and quality of photos. Guess they count on customers to produce the best videos for them.

remove the part by first taking out the top screw then rotate the part to get to the bottom screw. then to replace do the bottom screw first with the repalcement part 180 degrees from final resting place then rotate the replaced part to final resting place and tighten it last.

I received mine. The inner part of the guard is still plastic and it also has one of the sketchiest springs on it that one day is going to fly out. It is barely captured on the new guard.

Mine took 6 weeks to arrive. After over a month I gave them a call to find what was going on. They said the 2 week initial estimate was changed to a month. I got into it with them because they never notified of the delay. They said they would expedite the part. I received it a week later. When a manufacturer has a recall that makes the product unable to be used, they should expedite all replacement parts.

I had to hold my new replacement rear blade guard to the right more and tighten the side screw down. When I first put it on the blade was just barely clearing the right edge of the new replacement guard. Once I got it adjusted, I have a little bit more clearance now. You'll have to check yours. Look at it from straight on with the front blade guard lifted to see that there's a little space on the right side of the rear blade guard. Please let me know if you do check.

Should of waited when my rear guard shattered last year. Tried to do a small cut and the guard broke into bunch of pieces. Luckily I had my safety glasses. Found the part in Amazon and bought it last year. I will be replacing it with the metal one that DeWalt is sending.

Might be just a slight manufacturing defect on my replacement part or warping on the dust extract chute, but the piece that pivots on the replacement part makes contact with the dust extraction chute when lowering the saw now, where the old design didn’t. It’s not a problem, but an annoyance given that this was supposed to be better (an upgrade, so to speak). I think it’s because of the gap created by tightening down the bottom screw all the way, that prevents the part from resting flush against the body of the saw arm, making it angle slightly inward and then allowing it to make contact with the chute. I may do something to tweak it, like putting a washer or two under the bottom screw to bring the guard flush.

Same at my end, also. Might also nibble the chute by 1/32". An annoyance, for sure!

* is the saw safe to use without* Thank YOU!!!! I had no idea about the recall and 2 days ago I was cutting the ends off some 8/4 cherry and herd a loud crack bap! a small piece of what thought was the cherry hit the corner of my safety glasses. My first thought was there was a staple in there. I made 2 more cuts and the saw sounded different and the cuts not as clean so I decided to take the blade off and look. sure enough two pieces of broken plastic feel out!! I had no idea where they came from after looking at the saw. I typed in plastic fell out of my dealt miter saw on KZfaq and your video was first up. I will be ordering the new part today but I have a question. Is the saw safe to use without that part? I use mine every day and could never wait 8 weeks.
@HubersRanch
@HubersRanch Жыл бұрын
Without that piece the front guard that goes over the blade will drop down when the saw is in the up position exposing the top of the blade near the handle. Safe is a relative term, people run saws without guards, as long as you are aware of it and you watch out for it I'm sure you can keep working with it, just be mindful of that blade.

If it's not on it when you raise the blade the front guard will move down too far exposing the blade on the top.
