Good video. Bought this very saw and everything you talk about is my experience also. It really does a good job for small trim jobs. Always been a big fan of Dewalt tools. Was a little leary about a battery powered saw ,but it really does a decent job. Like you I don't care for the safety trigger, but not a big issue. Good Video !

Just received mine last week. Took it for a solid test drive this morning. Oh boy, that safety switch toggle is a real nightmare. Constantly had to readjust my hand to engage that thing. It's definitely coming out. I spent at least half the time just trying to get that switch engaged. Really, that's my only complaint. It cut everything I needed trimmed with no issues. Definitely a keeper. Enjoyed the review. 👍

I just got the Dewalt cordless hedger and weed trimmer and they work great. I also bought a Makita cordless blower and plan to purchase the Makita cordless Chainsaw and this Dewalt Polw saw. I will be using it to trim my queen palms which are starting to grow out of reach.

I purchased a DeWalt pole saw and I love it. Very powerful and it cut thru 8 inch limbs with ease. I am getting rid of my gas operated chain saws. This one doe s the trick for me.

I used it a couple times, very nice. Some of the pole saws have a 10 inch chain. That would be a great upgrade option.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks now. It does flex a bit but it works great. I really does balance better with the 9 amp hr flex volt battery I bought separately. Bare tool was $149+$6 shipping. Trimmed about 100 branches in about 2 dozen trees so far. The 12' chainsaw works great also. Now for a leaf blower.

The pictures are from the biggest tree that I’ve trimmed. The poll length is about all I could manage with the weight of the saw on the end. I use this while on a ladder, and while standing on my roof to trim the tree in the picture. I haven’t had any problems with the saw getting stuck (pinched). It’s been pretty easy to get out when it starts to get pinched, and I just saw from the bottom or cut a V. The battery life is good. I only have one battery, and it lasts long enough to cut a yard full of limbs that I then cut down with my electric chain saw while recharging the battery. I haven’t had any problems with the pole extensions, and they seem sufficiently sturdy. No problem yet with the chain coming off. I have this problem all the time with my plug in chain saw. Plus, how cool is a chain saw on a pole!

It was good to see you actually cut something overhead. Ground height I have a chainsaw for that. My second saw, so I don't know a lot about any of this, but it did help remove a tree off my roof. 😊

I have a lot of pine trees, so a trimmer isn't needed (not much undergrowth or grass even), but a pole saw is great to reach in and grab lower branches etc. As mentioned if you have the Dewalt Batteries already (system) the bare tool is $150 but to be honest the $200 with battery is a better deal (ever have to many batteries?) and use the smaller battery that it comes with on other items. As others mentioned store it oil down and blade up and almost no leaks. I generally use it only in the spring and fall, rest of the time to hot and buggy or too cold, so I clean, sharpen, adjust, and drain oil.

The flex in the pole is crazy

I liked the metal casing, the ryobi is plastic, but the one mistake is the angle of the blade, when you're raised above your head, the chips come straight towards your face, same as the ryobi

Just bought one for$232.00. It was the kit. I consider this a very fair price. It’s selling point for me was 15’ pole saw. It’s not. Only about 10’. Going to live with it . Haven’t tried it yet.

I have a corded pole saw from Harbor Freight, it has worked great for the past 3 years of somewhat moderate use at times...even it leaks bar oil when it is sitting for long periods of time, but so does every other chainsaw that's out there, some just more than others. This Dewalt cordless pole saw would be great for quick jobs, but not sure I'd want to be holding it up in a tree very long, 8lbs gets heavy very fast when you are trying to hold it up above your head which is what they're typically used for, not cutting stuff down at waist level like you were doing in the video. I don't really care too much for the 60V Dewalt chainsaw, about 10-15 minutes of battery run time isn't that great for a $400+ saw, had to buy a 2nd battery and those 60V batteries are outrageously priced. I have a gas grass trimmer which has the option to swap out the trimmer head for other attachments. I do not have the pole saw attachment but was thinking of getting one as with it all the weight is down at your hands rather than up in the air making it much easier to use I would think.

I used mine to trim a tree at one of my Rental houses and I’m in Love! Worked great! I filled up a green waste garbage can completely! Also used a DEWALT Reciprocating saw to cut the branches down for the garbage can and a DEWALT Cordless blower for job site cleanup! A real DEWALT Morning!

Very minor update: I took out the lawyer engineered paddle safety which was just frustrating me. I took a small finishing nail center punch and after putting a small 5/8" piece of wood underneath the safety paddle (otherwise, you'll break the plastic paddle when hitting the pin with the small finishing center punch). Took longer to find the scrap wood than to remove the pin. Works sweet and no more lawyer frustration. As always YMMV.

Just bought this at a Major chain "Home" Improvement store. Went in for the Ryobi, but found it was no battery included. I don't have any Ryobi tools, so polesaw + battery + charger was $527. I have several Dewalt tools including an impact driver that uses 20v Lithium batteries. Same as the Dewalt polesaw. No Brainer for purchase ($179 before tax). It's nice and light after assembly. Will use it this weekend after the thunderstorms go through. Will give you a comment then.

Hi, Yes, i like it for dedicated pole saw. Just because i will only use it a few time in a year for trimming on my property. Hopefully it will come bare tool. The 4.0ah battery is not bad just to try it out. Especially if you not noticing and power difference with a 5.0ah or 6.0ah. Now i have enough batteries so i will be ok. I just don't have any flexvolt battery tools yet. Thanks for the video.

Could not agree more with your comment about the safety, which stuck well more than 75% of the time. I thought that the safety on the DEWALT Cordless Die Grinder was a bit difficult to get used to, but this one is hopeless, especially while wearing gloves. Its another case of the design engineers not actually using the tool.

I've heard a few comments by some folks that we testing this thing about the bar end being a little off balance. I think you want the weight to do the cutting since the shaft looks too flexible to be putting a lot of pressure on it. With a sharp chain, the end heaviness will do all the work.

I laughed when he talked about the chain oil dripping out, just store the Saw blade up and the tank down and you’ll never have that problem

Likely depends on your part of the country. Live oaks in south, too short, need that 16’. North work a little better on aspens and pine, but in my view sort of luxury item, since with hand saw can get to 8’ or so. Looks like a nice build. I do have exclusively dewalt in the shop. S

The trick with the safety switch is to drag your thumb back and just hit the very top edge of the safety switch and then push down on the entire top switch. (Helps to have a good and balanced hold on the pole with your left hand as well) I have a long thumb and fingers so it works okay for me. For battery life, drop the limbs with the pole saw and cut them up with a regular chainsaw later (or never :).... but move them out of the way so you don't trip over them as you look up for the next branch. 🙄😃. Yeah, I've done that. Great saw and a lot of material for the money as a kit or bare without battery/charger. Battery actually lasts longer than I expected.

I think if you're buying a dedicated pole saw, because you need a pole saw that will handle large and small. Low or tall. I'd get the most powerful, extendable, quality gas pole saw you can afford. I have a commercial stihl/kombi pole saw for heavy work, and anything 10 ft above grade. I still have the stihl commercial trimmers fx100's, saws from little 190's to the 441. And stihl blowers. They don't get used nearly as much as they once did. But they all have their place. Up until recently, I had to struggle to get my pole saw and a chainsaw, fuel, bar oil, and tools in the back of my utv. The pole saw had to run down to the floorboard and I'd strap it to the roll cage. Same with the string trimmers. I really hated doing maintenance and cleanup around our house. Over 5 acres of hand landscaped yard. Plus the other 25 acres worth of woods, fence row, random oaks, maple and cedars throughout the field. And the pond/small lake. Whatever you want to call it. I spent more time lugging different tools around back and forth, just for doing maintenance, or clearing trails, and of course the inconvenience of not just grabbing a tool and squeezing the trigger. I gotta say, for me, I absolutely LOVE the quik lok system. It makes me want to keep things maintained and cleared. It's so simple, power is unbelievable, and run time is great. I do run 12.0 HO batteries. And I keep a couple on hand when I go out for the work. I can fit the powerhead, pole saw and extension, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, and the fuel chainsaw and blower in the back of the utv. And I keep extra batteries in the console. I can leave the radio cranked on the utv and still hear it most of the time while working, if I need to limb a tree or cut one down I can, if I need to raise the canopy of a tree, I can, if I need to shape shrubbery I can, if I need to string trim while I'm doing all of this work I can. So while I will agree that you should own a dedicated tool. I think that applies to someone who will be limbing all day, or cutting firewood all day, or shrubbery work all day, trimming fence row all day. Etc. I still use my gas powered equipment of course. But its rare that I HAVE TO. YMMV everyone is different. Power and versatility was extremely important to me when making the purchases I made on the M18 Fuel OPE. And they nailed it. On my most used battery platform at that. I do own a 20v max 12 inch chainsaw, and had the flexvolt chainsaw. And just my opinion, they need a redesign. The old fashioned 2 stud and nuts work great for a saw bar. Their quick adjust is poor in my opinion. The bar loosens up every 5 min. And they leak horribly bad. My fuel doesnt leak a drop. Some do though. And power. Somehow the m18 cuts better and faster than the 60v. The run time is similar battery to battery. I love the flexvolt stuff. The miters and circ saws are are on our job sites daily. But this is just my take on the OPE. I don't know anything about this particular pole saw. It may be great for some light use. Homeowner, etc. And price is probably half of milwaukee. Probably half the weight also.....But we're talking grapes to watermelon in my opinion. I think it's great Dewalt is coming out with new tools. And vice versa with all tool companies. Innovation and competition has changed the way I do work forever and jobsite setups are so easy, fast, and clean. So that's my take overall. Can battery powered tools completely replace corded? Yes. To an extent. Can they completely replace pneumatic? Yes, to an extent. Can they completely replace gas powered equipment? Yes to an extent. Pros and homeowners alike should be able to tell their needs/wants. I couldn't replace my big saws and wood working equipment with cordless. I can't replace all of my pneumatic nailers with cordless. I can't replace my big saws for felling 36 inch oaks and cutting up firewood for a solid month. But if I can use cordless as a convenient option and get the job done well, safely, and work more efficiently I absolutely will. Maybe not in our lifetime, but someday I imagine everything will be cordless and powered by some super cell battery technology that we can't even imagine today. The flexing in that pole makes me wonder how sturdy this product really is? I like the metal bucking spikes/hook tho. That's nice to see. 100% agree that these companies need to stop giving lower Ah batteries in there kits. Even those useless 1.5Ah on there newer drills are pathetic. Sucks cause I like Dewalt but they need better kits available. This very well could of came with there newer 20V 6ah battery with the 21700 cells and a fast charger. I remember getting there 60v chainsaw with a 9.0Ah battery but with an old charger. I was stunned. Including the cheap charger with something that comes with a 9.0? Dewalt need's to fix how there kit's are put together. It's a reason I don't buy a lot of there stuff no more and been making the switch to Milwaukee. But good review dude! Keep it up.

I ended up getting the craftsman pole saw which you manually oil the chain which I like so I don't have a puddle on my floor plus it cost less and came with a 4amp battery and charger the dewalt cost more bare tool ,its got plenty of power

Can I use flexvolt batteries with this tool? I bought the 60v string trimmer during spring and I love it. I would be using the same battery from the string trimmer on the polesaw if they're compatible.

Im on Milwaukee's platforms so it was an easy choice to buy the attachment for my quic-lok system. This looks nice about 4 years ago. I was looking phimsy as it was bowed in the middle. Overall excellent video covering the features but i think to little to late for most 20V XR tools as most are switching to flexvolt tools. Come on DEWALT pick a platform & stick with it!

Some tools are better when they are just dedicated... Take for example a screw driver. I always prefer a standard regular plain straight shaft screw driver instead of one of those multi screw drivers you have to change the bit heads. Better feel, usability, leverage, etc etc.

Dewalt safety levers at times drives me crazy. I’m with you on this one! I wish you could shorten this tool even further, for one handed, close work operation.

I have 7 chain saw from stihl to echo and this dewalt pole saw is one of my favorite to cut my queen palm tree and other trees that 3" thick branches that I can reach. I think this is the only brushless pole saw out there. I picked this one over Ryobi pole saw.

I don't have anything in DeWalt but I do have several Ryobi 18V batteries and a Ryobi 4 stroke multi tool /string trimmer I also have a old Homelite reciprocating saw on a 4 foot handle that uses Ryobi 18V batt

I'm considering this pole saw vs. the string trimmer with pole saw attachment. I have a few large trees at home but that's pretty much all I need this tool for. Any advice on which is better option? It appears the string trimmer with different attachments offer better flexibility. Thanks in advance!

Only thing I didn’t seem to like, is the fact that the pole itself seemed to curve or bow from the weight! However, I think the weight of the head is an advantage, because it helps with feeding downward pressure.

Tip: all chainsaws leak oil from their reservoir, including my corded pole saw. I dont use the auto oil feature, I manually oil chain as I use and have never had issues for over 10 years of use.

It is accurate that the bar chain oil level is not visible below half full if the unit is oriented horizontally. (as seen in this video) However, the entire level range of bar chain oil can be seen by orienting the unit so that the guide bar is pointing up.

I’m getting one because all of my tools are on the dewalt platform and I work as a cable installer. There are many situations where I need access up a telephone pole and either the customer or the neighbor has a tree blocking a safe way to set up my extension ladder. I have to tell the customer to have their trees trimmed and reschedule leaving money on the table. With this my job could be 75% easier.

How easy would it be to break the oil filler cap when in use, is it shielded ? and is it available as a separate purchase if it ever came undone and lost. Thanks, good video.

So great review, I just lost my old craftsman slide trimmers after 20 years, and of course rivet construction so no salvation there. I am already invested pretty well into the 20 v max/X-ray line, I am thinking I might just go and grab a set, tool only is 129.00 : ). Here is what I say to attachments, when something can fit everything it generally does not fit anything well. When a tool is designed for the job it does tend to work, that said I do understand budget. I prefer dedicated tools that fit a task to the t.

I needed a pole saw before this DeWalt saw was available, so I bought the Kobalt at Lowe's. It worked great, except when the bar got pinched in a heavy branch cut, the PLASTIC motor case broke in half! I returned and replaced it twice, then gave up. This DeWalt case is aluminum and likely won't snap under some torque, so I'll buy.

i want to use this for cutting flashings out in a roof but i am hesitant on how well its good at plunge cutting

I have the Milwaukee Quick-Lok Pole Saw. It flexes a little with the 3 foot extension pole, but this Dewalt bends way more! I'm glad I went Milwaukee. It has a straight bar, better safety switch, 10" bar standard and less weight in the head unit. Dewalt missed the mark on this tool IMO.

I don't know about the bigger battery creating more power but I use it with the 12ah flex volt batteries and can confirm it does balance it out well. The run time on the 12ah is substantial. Had to sharpen the blade and refill the oil before recharging.

I've ordered one a couple days ago , Off E-bay (Tool Only) $135.00 . I need to trim up 6 acres about once in a blue moon . I hated spending $600.00 on Gas powered and drop cord wasn't feasible. So we'll see ! I own plenty of Dewalt Chargers and Batteries , SOooo I Hoping this works out !

Some moments in the video when the tool is being used, it looks wobbly because of the majority of the weight being at the top like you mention. What are your thoughts on that? Is it sturdy enough to keep in steady or does the wobble affect it in a significant way?

This looks like a great saw to have, except for the fact that everyone is complaining about oil leaking out of the saw when it's not being used. I have never heard of a chainsaw doing this before. I love Dewalt tools but oil leaking out of this is a huge negative

You should compare to the Oregon which is very good. Oregon collapses into itself and looks to be more ridgid. I love having a dedicated pole saw. It is nice to cut into brush without having to clear a path to get a standard chainsaw in to make the cut. Great for low hanging branches. I am glad DeWalt has put one on the market.

I'm not grasping the 20v vs 40v battery concept. Harbor Freight's Atlas pole saw has a 40v battery, so does that mean it will last longer? Or have more torque? Or spin the chain faster? I'm not understanding what makes a 20v vs 40v vs 80 battery different, other than they are all about double the price of the one under it

TIM from Canada someone should figure out to build a reciprocating saw on a pole for people who do not want to mess around with oil.. and mess around with the chain.. if you can make a reciprocating saw and put it on a pole into the same functions as the chainsaw but have it the same way as a reciprocating saw this would work out because there will be some people who do not want to mess around with the oil or mess around with the chain every time it falls off or you need to change it there is something into this they only think about what they want to do if there was a reciprocating saw made on a pole exactly like this this would work the same way

Dedicated pole saw I think would be better. Please always give at least the MSRP on all tools you are reviewing! That way we can decide if it’s even in our price point Also two or three places that sell them would be nice.

What is the file size used to sharpen the chain? I bought a 2nd hand saw with no owners manual. And is it true that you can only file the chain a max of 4x before you have to replace it?

Are the stihl kombi attachments compatible with the other?

Will the brush cutter fit on the end of that?

What file size does the chain require to be sharpened?
