Here is a GREAT Hose to extend the stock hose with this Pressure Washer: amzn.to/2LW5Aml
You also need QD ends: amzn.to/2LVF1gR
Serious Water Pressure - We are always looking at a new and improved version of a tool. Sometimes it is a new battery power tool with more power or an upgrade for more user protection. In this video and article, we take a look at a DEWALT 4200 PSI 4.0 GPM Direct Drive Pressure Washer that has been on the market for some time. This pressure washer has been built with quality products and it is meant to last.
We want to note that DEWALT makes this version with a direct drive pump or a belt-driven pump. As you get up in PSI, belt-driven pumps are more popular because the belt does not transfer the vibrations from the engine to the pump, allowing for longer pump life. Direct drive units, like the one in our video, are more popular with consumers due to then being less expensive and more compact.
The DEWALT 4200 PSI 4.0 GPM Direct Drive Pressure Washer is one of the most powerful models available at The Home Depot. DEWALT used an AAA triplex pump made by Comet on this unit and it allows for the user to adjust the pressure by turning a knob on the pump. We estimate the output to be from 2,800 PSI to 4,200 PSI. Along with that adjustment, the Honda GX390 engine has a working RPM range of 2,000 RPM to 3,600 RMP, allowing you to decrease the engine RPM to reduce pressure also.
These adjustments are awesome and allow this very powerful unit to be used in many different cleaning applications. If you are new to pressure washers, we recommend that you start slow and ramp up the pressure over time to save any destruction. With the 0 degree tip, one can write their name permanently in concrete at full power.
DEWALT DXPW4240 Features
HONDA GX Commercial Series Engine.
Direct Drive Engine & Pump.
Triplex Pump Design with Ceramic Pistons and Thermal Relief Valve.
Adjustable Unloader system for added pressure control.
Welded Construction, 1-1/4" Tubular Steel with Steel Engine Plate and Solid Steel 5/8" Axle
3/8" x 50' Non-marring Hose with Quick Connectors.
5 Quick Connect nozzles (0°. 15°, 25°, 40°, & Soap)
Downstream Detergent Injection System.
DEWALT Quality
When a company like DEWALT has its name on a product, they want it to be quality! Honda has a proven reputation for some of the best commercial engines on the market and the GX390 is an awesome engine with almost 12HP and 19 ft. lbs of torque. While there is no oil filter, it does allow for 1.16 quarts of oil and it is easily changed.
The AAA Triplex pump has ceramic coated pistons and a thermal relief valve to allow for water flow when the pump is not in use and the engine remains running. The oil level can be quickly checked through the sight glass on the rear of the pump. The oil should be changed with a 15W-40 oil every 200 hours.

I appreciate the demonstration and information. I decided to purchase it and it is everything you mentioned. I bought it to pair with a 22" (3 nozzle rotary bar) General Pump HAMMERHEAD surface cleaner and it is a perfect match!!! I also use it for soft washing and this machine allows me to shoot my solution up to appx. 35' to reach roofs and peaks without leaving the ground. My philosophy is don't buy an 8/gpm machine for several thousand dollars unless you've got the big contracts like hotels and parking garages, etc., because it's overkill for residential. I've made $8,231 in 4 months with this machine and the surface cleaner. I bought a 100' of extra HP hose and a 100' of garden hose, 2 hose reels and mounted it (to a steel diamond-plated skid I fabricated) in the bed of my F-150. Take care and God Bless. M. UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust kzfaq.infoUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

I purchased this unit in 2019 for my house - not commercial use. When I can get it to start, it works great. It’s extremely temperamental and it takes forever to get this to start. It normally takes me about 30 to 60 minutes to get it to start. I normally walk away for 10 to 20 minutes.

Good review. I had a job where the foreman bought one of these, we mainly used it for greencutting concrete piles, cleaning rebar, tyres and excavators before transport or road use. Was a really excellent washer, it generally started up right away without issues, the fuel tank was a little small, lasted maybe 4hrs. The handle was a little short when pulling it and the 2 wheels rather than 4 was both a plus and a minus, but overall it packed a punch and was fairly well organized (hose, wand, etc.) 1 BIG point, In Australia these units have a 'dewalt brand' engine (NOT HONDA) so I would have my doubts about its lifetime.

@@Painfulwhale360 always check the oil. You have to purge the hoses every time. Never let the machine run for more than 2 minutes if you are not going to use it better to shut it off . If your machine has a small hose to put soap never put chemicals like bleach, sodium hypochlorite etc it will damage the gaskets. better use a sprayer.. I took it to a buddy that's a mechanic and he looked over it and he said there was definitely something wrong with it and to return it, thankfully home depot exchanged it for a new one and I'll be trying it again tomorrow, wish me luck that this one runs great!!!

I work on pressure washer as part of making a living. I will let you in on a little secret about them. NO ONE makes pressure washers. They make pressure washer FRAMES and labels. In reality all pressure washers are more or less home built. The complete engine comes from one manufacturer and the pump comes from another manufacturer and the two are bolted together. Something you can do in your back yard. Now as for electric pressure washers most are made by a few companies in China just with different labels on them Now Karcher has and still does try and make some of its own pumps in house but if you ask me they are over priced and do not hold up as well. But their engines still come from an out side source.

As a reference I have used Simpson Ak4240 model for several years and love it. It shakes alot. Doesn't have dampers to frame. Same pump in this video. Uses Kohler quad clean CH440 engine. I love all of it but i see tweaks that can make it epic. I bought dampers for frame to engine also need to add feet to frame since originals shook off and now frame has been eroded from vibration on rough surface.

@@beerbeforebreakfast Pump= CAT, Giant, AR. As for the engine Kohler , Honda or Briggs. But Briggs is not what it used to be. Seen too may Briggs engine on PW fail due to plastic cams used on those engines. If you are running Kohler and CAT I would say you have about the best set up going. Belt drive unit I think last longer. Most pumps run best at 2800 to 3200. Running direct drive at 3600 over speeds most pumps and shortens their life
@beerbeforebreakfast
@beerbeforebreakfast 4 жыл бұрын
@@davidhenderson3400 thanks for the obvious experienced incite! I do love my Kohler, jury still out on the AR, but im certain next machine will be belt driven. That was all i used for the 2 commercial companies ive worked for, being on your own direct drive doesn't seem so bad to start with $$$$ comparing the 2, but now longevity is peaking out and then you have a double cost situation of where you bite the bullet ahead of time and hope the work hits or start a bit reserved and upgrade if needed later although costs more in long run! Thats life tho! Thanks again my friend.

I considered this unit as I had a 3000PSI DeWalt until last year and it was a good unit, but I ended up going with the Stihl and I love everything about it. I loved the Honda engine on the DeWalt, but I felt like the pump was anemic at best. The Stihl uses a very good Koehler engine and beefy pumps. Let’s face it, any engine you put on these pressure washers will outlast the pumps so it’s best to get a unit with a great pump and a very good engine instead of the reverse. There are lots of other quality issues that make the Stihl a better choice. It’s ergonomically better since you don’t have to bend over to move it, the hose is more flexible, the wand has a reverse trigger which allows you to use your strongest fingers to actuate it instead of your weakest, it has a vibration mitigation system which allows it to essentially float on a cushion of rubber......it’s just all around a better unit in my opinion. So if you are considering this unit, take a look at Stihl too. Great warranty and can be serviced at any Stihl service center, of which there are a ton.

I bought this pressure washer around a year back. Although it ran good with high psi to begin with it gradually lowered and last i checked it was at 3500 psi at max! Would not reccomend this pressure washer if you need a reliable one.

Question about the downstream detergent injection system; I'm under the impression that detergent still goes through the pump, which means you have to be careful about what chemicals you use (chlorine, etc.). Is this correct? Because if it is, I'm considering investing in the x jet system (I'd rather not, but I don't want to wreck pump). Thanks

"Downstream" referring to after the pump. Can be directly after the pump or anywhere between the pump and nozzle.

I like the fact that the pump oil level can be viewed. Your statement regarding "the pump oil should be changed after the first x-number of hours use" makes sense. Every since my first new motorcycle at age 15, it seems the rule is with new engines to change the oil after the break-in period. Makes sense that pumps would follow the same rules. So this begs the question: Do not most pressures washers have a sealed unit that does not include oil level viewing port, a pump that is not designed to easily change the pump oil? Should one also attempt to change the oil on one of these units after a break-in period? I suppose ultimately one would want to follow the manufactures guide as to this need, but wanted to hear your input.

Most pumps are a "sealed" pump with oil in there meant to last a lifetime. Similar to what BMW does to their transmissions now..... Those units do not have a long life expectancy...... would I try to change the oil in those types, NO, because I would never pay much for them and I would rather not risk a failure due to maintenance. would I if it was easy, heck yes!

Bought a 3200 PSI Speed Wash Pressure Washer Model 7122 | Generac for strictly personal home usage. Still waiting on Tractor Supply to call me for pickup. Hopefully this will last me awhile. Not loaning it out to my nephew for sure. That boy could ruin an anvil with a rubber hammer.

Very detailed, nice video. Where can I get the "pump saver" for storing it longer than 30 days. Your thoughts if I had it sitting without anything for almost a year? I'm changing all fluids and empting gas already.

You might want to run it to get any rust or calcium build up out of the pump. I am unsure of your water type so it is hard to say. watch this video and the links to everything are in the description. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLaDZceG3JzTiWw.html

I don’t want to put channel locks on it because the black cap/cover is plastic. I’m not weak and am turn real hard but I can’t turn it counter clockwise at all. Am I doing something wrong? Help.
