Heres what we've learn in our shop... I've amassed quite the dewalt collection of tools over the past several years, around 25-30 (impacts, grinders, saws, ect) of their tools. Including quite a few of their newest tool releases. Myself and my employees use a lot of these daily in a commercial shop setting. We have tried a lot of these Chinese batteries, including several of these Waitley batteries. What we have learned is that the Waitley batteries are probably the best Chinese battery. They work well for limited use applications when you have back up batteries available. With all of that being said... We've recently gone back to spending a little more on the Dewalt branded batteries. We've learned that the dewalt batteries not only last longer while using them, they hold up much better long term, as in a year or two years down the road, especially being used daily or semi daily. Not only that, they also produce more output power, and for a longer duration. I've noticed a fairly significant price decrease in the genuine dewalt batteries, especially on eBay lately. You can purchase a twin pack of 5ah for less than 100 bucks these days. Thats only 30-40 bucks more than the Chinese counterpart, with a much higher quality. My suspension is that these flexvolt batteries will eventually drop in price similar to the non flexvolt batteries we use. Thanks for the review!

I love here in real world experience like that I was sent recently what was supposed to be a nine amp hour Chinese knock off DeWalt battery that performance wise didn’t even quite match up with a six ant power battery, so I tore the thing apart to see exactly what kind of cells are in there it’s gonna make a fun video eventually
@1foreman3 ай бұрын
@winstonian88 yes, you are exactly right. We have gotten burned on a couple of the fakes. The counterfeit dewalts look exactly like the originals unless you know what to look for, there are some good videos on youtube about that. Since making my original post, we've gone to only purchasing batteries from known retailers. Do not purchase any batteries elsewhere. We have torn into them to see exactly what is going on, and they are complete junk. I do stand by my statement about the waitley batteries found on Amazon. They continue to make improvements and seem to be very good knockoff batteries for limited use for things such as removing lug nuts, drilling a few holes, ect. I have 12 employees that are constantly using tools, and tearing up tools and batteries, so sometimes its cheaper to keep a pile of waitley batteries around for day to day use, because it hurts your heart to see a $150 dewalt battery get crushed by an excavator track. For higher demand tools such as grinders or routers, i still recommend the original dewalt batteries. We have probably got 50+ dewalt tools at this point (mainly impacts), and no telling how many dozens of batteries.

I think the biggest concern for me when browsing these cheaper Chinese knockoff batteries hasn’t necessarily been the stated capacity - with Chinese knockoffs, you can pretty much always guarantee the actual capacity to be significantly less than what is stated. My biggest concern stems from the fact that they probably aren’t using cells that have a high enough discharge rate for this kind of application, meaning the cells get pushed far beyond their safety limits, leading to all kinds of trouble. To me, that’s enough of a red flag to put me off ever buying or even using one 😕

Though the price makes them hard to pass up, I would never buy the knockoffs of counterfeits. They have no curcuit board like the origionals, which prevent overcharging and provide overheat protection. They are considerably more likely to fail or catch on fire. And with a truck full of approximately 22k worth of tools, it's a risk I'm not willing to take over 50 bucks or less in savings.

You can get 9 Amp/Hr batteries that are the size of the 6 Amp/Hr packs as the difference in size is based on the 6 Amp/Hr using 15 18650 cells while the 9 Amp/Hr use 21700 cells. You can get 3 Amp/Hr cells in both sizes. The switch to 21700 allows for higher Amp/Hr packs for less as 21700s tend to run cheaper per Amp/Hr as the numbers start to go up; 18650 tend to also cap out at 4 Amp/Hr while 21700 can go up to t and probably even 6 in the near future. One other big benefit to 21700 over 18650 is their ability to put out higher amp levels, a need for some tools, though this can also lead to quicker depletion as well as tripping thermal cut-offs. I have personally rebuilt DeWalt batteries with higher power cells and like the 18650 form factor as it fits the older tools whereas some newer packs do not. I doubt though any Chinese company is doing this as it is quite cost prohibitive; they tend to just list higher spec. numbers and leave consumers to find out. Another thing they do is reuse old batteries so even if you take a battery apart and identify high quality and spec. cells inside they may have already seen their life cycle of charge cycles and have a much reduced actual capacity.

I’m always dubious about “as good as” claims.There is a reason the price of knock offs are so much more inexpensive,because they are cheaply made.
@dorvinion Жыл бұрын
I suspect the knockoffs are always gonna be hit or miss with more misses than hits. I recently rescued a working 40v mower the neighbor threw out so I'm looking for a 40v Ryobi battery and charger. Except its almost not worth rescuing since a legit OEM battery costs only 60-90 bucks less than a new mower + battery + charger

I have bought a few different imitation dewalt batteries and I have had them charge properly or not charge and on 1 o2 bars, showing full charge on the charger. I opened up a couple and found mismatched cells, the BMS ( battery management system) pcb is tiny compared to original dewalt! I have swapped cells and they work again. Next i will be replacing some BMS circuit board with a balance board like in dewalt battery. Top video ❤. Subbed and liked cheers from Australia 👍👍👍

Now I use a mix of tools, but mostly ryobi (Dont hate me lol), but have a similar mix of genuine and knockoff batteries that I have used over the last 4 years. Normally the knockoff batteries perform well except on higher drain items so I think they are often limited by the cells higher internal resistance. In terms of longevity, thats where the genuine ones seem to be slightly better, lasting multiple years vs 12-18 months before the performance seems to drop dramatically (But again they are fine in lower current drawing tools). I'm getting my first dewalt battery tools as part of a redemption, and it's a flexvolt string trimmer and a normal 18V polesaw, both with charger and battery, so it should be interesting to see what the price and performance of clone batteries is now a year later than your testing.

Why are we allowing this crap into our countries from companies making fraudulant claims. Batteries is one thing but it applies to so many imported products inluding food, medical devices, medications etc. We need to be backing America Canada and Europe. We need Amazon to do the same as well. Just my thoughts support our own.

I have one Waitley and it performs fine but it has one problem. I have four chargers and for some reason it only charges on two of them. If I only had one charger and it was the wrong one, I would have no way to charge it.

I have a waitley as well I only charge them on my 4 port rapid charger I’ll have to dig out some of my other ones and check it out. Any idea why that’s the case
@chrisvaiuso6010 Жыл бұрын
@@TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP The Waitley charges normally on my newest charger that I got as part of a flex volt kit. It charges on another charger I have but only if it is fully spent and sometimes I have to take it off and put it back on again. My other two chargers will not charge it at all. I really don't have an explanation.
@mattwickert736 Жыл бұрын
I have some from them as well. It seems like of the "knock off" ones, they are one of the better ones. I look at these batteries as having inferior individual cells (lower discharge rates, lower capacity, etc) but in areas where high, constant demand isn't required, they work just as well. I suspect their BMS is probably at least 1, if not 2, generations behind what the OEMs are using, also.

I have a couple of waitleys 6.0 and they are MUCH MUCH smaller and lighter than the real dewalt. Not only that but they are very slightly smaller and lighter than the DeWalt 4.0. They seem to work well and even if they are legit 4.0 batteries, I’m OK with that. I just wish they were more honest.
@Ragnar00911 ай бұрын
Your situation is a bit closer in price, but I have Worx tools. A Worx 20V 4Ah battery is 100 bucks. A 20V 6Ah battery is 150 bucks. A Worx 20V 6Ah knockoff battery is 27 bucks. And this knockoff lasts a little longer than the Worx 4Ah battery that is 100 bucks. I know the Worx 20V 6Ah battery is going to be better than the knockoff, but 6 times better? They're not even trying. Zero chance I buy anything but the knockoffs for my Worx tools.

@chrismunnich5487 Жыл бұрын
I own this knockoff. You are correct. It doesn't last nearly as long as the Dewalt 9AH. It's sole purpose is to keep me going while my Dewalt is in the charger. For the price, it's worth that. Side note: The Dewalt 9AH that came with my weed whacker died after 4 months of use. I called Dewalt and they replaced it, no questions asked.

What I have found is even dewalt branded batteries may be knock offs so it seems that the better buy might be something like a waitley which is an acknowledged knock off but performs well. Do you know of any way to be sure a dewalt battery is actually made by dewalt?
