I fixed the vibration issue on my Milwaukee. I added two chunks of gray foam with two sided tape, where the battery slams home like a clip in a gun. The foam acts like suspension. Enough foam that when u release the battery it pops out a little. It’s much better now

I picked up the Milwaukee trimmer and blower, tool only, end of season display models a few years back for $99 Cdn ea. and have been very happy with both. As I was already heavily into the Milwaukee platform, with plenty of batteries this was a simple decision for me, and glad I did. One 9Ah battery runs both tools for front and back yard as well as cleaning the driveway of debris...perfect for a 1960's size house lot.

EXCELLENT REVIEW!!! I WILL NOW BE RETURNING THE EGO CARBON SHAFT POWER LOAD TO H/D FOR EXCHANGE TO THE DEWALT 60V. MY ENTIRE TOOL PLATFORM IS RED, BUT HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE DEWALT 60V GRINDER AND TABLE SAW. SO, AS A DIY HOMEOWNER I ONLY NEED THE ONE 60V 3.0 AMP HR. BATTERY FROM THE TRIMMER. Ego makes good stuff. I actually had the Ego and returned it. With the ego you get that small torque steer twist when starting it up. Other than that it's pretty smooth, but has problems keeping that head speed up. Also the kit only comes with the 2.5ah battery. It's a good platform if you only need the trimmer, blower, and mower. But if you're in the dewalt platform it makes sense to get the flexvolt trimmer, especially if you have other flexvolt tools!

I just bought a DeWalt string trimmer. I am still running the stock line and it works well for my use. I did all around the house and fence line and the 3 ah pack only went down one bar. You have to be careful because it is very easy to scalp the grass even on low speed. The new trimmers have a larger self wind head that can carry 25 feet of line. The motor vent got slightly dirty with one use but it was no big deal to clean it after use.

I have had the 40v Dewalt for 5 years, had it completely covered in wet grass to the point you can't see any part of the head or guard in the pouring rain, and never had an issue. I brush it clean when I am finished and so far so good, so the debris build up is really a non issue for me. The 20 volt is a little under powered for heavy duty use, so that could also be the reason for yours going bad.

Both the 1st and 2nd gen Milwaukee Fuel trimmer (the solid shaft, and the quick lock version) have the motors in the rear, where the battery pack goes. The “Brushless” Milwaukee trimmer, which is a 2 piece but is NOT quick lock compatible - has the motor mounted right above the trimmer head, similar to the Dewalt version. Its important to realize that trimmer will not work with other attachments. I personally own both the 1st and 2nd gen fuel models - and i can say with the largest trimmer string your head will allow - those trimmers easily knock down thick, tall weeds. If you need to change the trimmer heads - (esp the old gen 1 without the speed load feature) - i suggest upgrading to the echo speed feed model. They get better online reviews than the Milwaukee speed feed version, are slightly cheaper (at my time of purchase), are usually stocked in Home Depot, and are Made In The USA. I believe (if i remember right) the Echo will even take the next size up trimmer string from the .095, which is the .105 line. The Milwaukee Trimmer basically needs the larger HD battery packs to get the most from it, not the small old 5.0 some kits were sold with. The vibration on the Milwaukee was never an issue for me. They use the same design as any gas powered trimmer. I wanna say the newer gen 2 quick lock version doesn’t vibrate as much. It would make sense as the spinning shaft has to be 2 pieces, and would be support at the top and bottom of each section - which would be the middle when assembled. The edger attachment works well also.

Hi, could you tell me who has more power Dewalt 54v or Ego 56v string trimmer?
@4thewinak
@4thewinak 5 жыл бұрын
The power is about the same on the trimmers. The Ego has a small startup torque (almost like torque steer on FWD car), but is other wise very smooth. BUT after using both for a few weeks, I can confirm, the Dewalt does a much better job at keeping the head speed up. Where as the EGO drops considerably through the thick grass/weeds/brush. So you could say the DeWALT is more powerful, but also keep in mind, got to keep those vents clean or you will burn out the motor. The EGO doesn't have that venting problem.

@zack6892
@zack6892 4 жыл бұрын
@@ryansweeney5711 54v is the designation over seas as that is the actual voltage under load. 60v is the reading you get while idle. Interestingly enough the 54v DeWalt sold in the UK comes with an over sized guard that actually stops grass from flinging in your face while edging unlike the 60v sold in the U.S. For that reason alone I would take the DeWalt over the ego since the guard is DeWalt only downfall.

The 40V Kobalt is garbage, I exchanged it for the Kobalt 80V. Its like night and day, so powerful as good as the my Husky gas unit. The weed wacker has only 15-20 minutes continuous run time on a 2.0 battery (about the same power as the 9.0 Milwaukee). I have 4 chargers and 6 batteries so no big deal, could work all day long without stopping but about half a day continuous is all I could do and needed a long rest. No vibration problem either, I think you have an defective or unbalanced head on the Milwaukee unit.

Definitely possible. There is a lot to be said about the design of the motor being at the rear and shaft driven head.

The vibration is nothing you don't have to worry about getting burnt by a hot motor or fuel problems the Milwaukee will cut no problem but I can say alot of people will be to lazy to clean the head of the dewalt and it won't last also Milwaukee can do the the job with 18 volts dewalt needs 20 or 60 volts to do it they had to go to the flex volt to stay competitive

So your argument is that DeWalt had to change from their 20v batteries that use the same type of cells as every other major tool company including Milwaukee over to 60v (using the same type of cells again just in a different configuration) to stay competitive? Hopefully this simple explanation makes you realize why that makes no sense. There are quite a few benefits to running on 60v instead of 20v but one of the clearest advantages is less heat generated when powering the brushless motor (this is the part that will most heavily affect the tools performance) as heat is going to be one of the biggest enemies of an electric motor/battery configuration.

Imagine pushing a small boulder up a big hill it's going to be a pain in the ass due to external resistance. Now take that same force you exert pushing that small boulder and apply it to a much larger boulder but this time it's on a flat paved road. You are going to be able to push it much easier due to the decreased resistance. That's generally the idea of producing a tool and brushless motor that runs off 60v instead of 20v the goal isn't more power it's increased efficiency it just so happens increased performance is a byproduct.

I have the first gen Milwaukee, and I've used the 2nd gen, and both, I found, have very low vibrations. My brother has one of the many DeWalt string trimmers (seeing as, apparently they can't seem to be confident in one string trimmer) and my Milwaukee is clearly a better build quality and a better run tool. Just my opinion

Dewalt isn't confident ? Try to educate yourself. There is one 20v , one 60v ( superior power) , one 40v for commercial use...there is no gen 2,3 like Milwaukee does upgrading every tool every year..

@@joeframer9642 lol... DeWalt is great for home owners, those who don't need high end tools. Milwaukee has pushed the boundaries with their batteries. Do the research. DeWalts marketing machine gets consumers to think higher voltage is better, when in fact the higher voltage has lower amperage in the majority of their batteries. Also because a battery says 60v flex doesn't mean the tool uses 60v. Milwaukee sticks with 2 platforms, 12v and 18v, and have it perfected to work with a high efficiency tool. 90day war on default batteries, and 3 years on Milwaukee. BUT to each their own . DeWalt a tools aren't bad at all, just not construction quality (although some do use it for construction). To be quite frankly I've wasted too much of my time on this post. I'm out!

@@ryansweeney5711 obviously not a builder, Milwaukee is a toy compared to flexvolt 60v tools, nothing to do with marketing.. We have both and sold the Milwaukee underpowered tools...flexvolt is on every framing job I see, Milwaukee is for plumbers...good automotive tools also, but not construction

Joe Framer The voltage is not the differance, if you take the flex volt battery and the High Output Mikwaukee batteries, they Milwaukee will put out at least as many watts. So the capabilities to generate the same amount of power is there. If you compare the Flexvolt to the new Milwaukee Large frame Fuel motors, they are in most tools actually more powerful/faster then the Flexvolt.

Milwaukee is a real professional tool. DeWalt is meant for the guys who use vibrators up their bungholios. I've been running Milwaukee for almost 10 years now after all our makitas died one way or another, only issue with Milwaukee after all these years was the original fuel 1/4" impact was forgotten in the bed of one of the trucks for a week with mostly rain all week and all that happens was it got temperamental, lasting another year before the board/chipset was totally blown apart and it shit the bed.
