For 6 weeks we have been waiting for Dixie to have a calf. Finally, she had her baby during the night. When Danny found the new calf around 6 am She was already walking around. The new calf wanted to nurse all the MOMMAS and even the bull and young calves. Who is my Momma? We are excited to have another female on the homestead. Help us NAME Her!

Maybe, since the baby is getting a little confused and pestering other females, the baby needs to be isolated with her momma Bonding time? Those other females are so big if they get tired of the calf, they could end up hurting the calf by accident trying to run her off...

Wouldn't it be better for the 1st 24 hours or so to have the baby and momma separate from the rest of the herd for bonding purposes? I've seen that done on other farms and just thought it was the thing to do. I don't care what species it is, babies are just precious! How about the name pumpkin or spice since she is the color she is and born in the fall. Or if you like "D" names, how about DeeDee.

I wish more than anything we could have some Dexters. We just don't have enough land. What a blessing for you guys today. Congratulations!! Nothing (in my opinion) like the morning sounds of a farm. Pure heaven here on this earth. We started with our ducks because we already had them but the majority are Muscovies....pretty quiet birds. Added some Cream Legbar chickens and a couple of guineas a few weeks ago. I was out feeding them the other day and was so excited to discover our little roo has found his voice. It's the little things that give me so much joy at this stage if life. Praying that God just continues to bless you guys.

Another BIG gift from above! I think I might call her; Surprise. Reason being her color was a complete 'surprise'. Or: 'Cocoa', again due to her color. I enjoyed this...nice to see that the herd is basically gentle and calm around the little one's 'mistakes'. Health and God's continued abundant blessings.

I like the name Daphne. She is a cute little calf. I’m kinda surprised at the red color also. Bison calves are red when born & they call them red dogs. They change color & get darker, as they get older. I watch Cross Timbers Bison channel. It is very interesting learning about the American Bison. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Aawww thank you for sharing. I already know that I would not be able to kill and eat them. I just want to feed n hug them. I would probably get on their nerves. I can see the pushing me out the gate like go do some human stuff lady lol. They look so peaceful and happy. I agree with the name Darla because she is such a little darling.

Ginger since she's so spunky. If I understand it correctly, both dame and sire are carrying the Red allele gene which is a 25% for red offspring, and 50% for offspring to be carriers. If they're anything like humans, the red mutated gene is found more in females.
