After the main series producer stepped down after season 4 I feel like the replacements gradually changed stuff without thinking it through much, like you said they never blurred reality for Dexter like this previously. Whenever he saw Harry it was very clearly his imagination and he knew that. Seeing Brian killing the dude is weird to me. Let alone him just getting over it in one episode lol. If you want a movie that’s great and has similar vibes to early Dexter I’d recommend Mr Brooks starring Kevin Costner and William Hurt
