I'm an American. I will tell you, that people will complain about anything. They dont have anything valid to say. Not because of you. Because, they want everybody to do things their way. Even though... they dont own 1 bird. Ignore them. Your birds are treated very well, and, you see to their health. Your providing good food to children and others. Great job. Thank you for sharing.

I understand the reason for the short cage but is there a reason for so many to a cage other than saving room on your part? I’m not judging I am truly asking and want to have a conversation about this. You spoke about the stress, would less hens per cage be less stressful for the hens? And would that be more productive for you?

My wife and I got 6 chickens last year (because we live in the city limits in the USA and are only allowed 6 chickens) and now we're going to get 24 quail and 3 or 4 rabbits to raise for the eggs and meat. Thank you so much for this video. It's great to see how many eggs you are getting every day and it's really awesome to know that it's helping to keep your community health and profitable! The soft shell lacks calcium and also it signifies that your quails doesnt acquire enough sunlight or vitamin D and also vitamin A. There are some aspect that your quail is fat which sometimes lead to produce several egg follicle.

For the cage. I agree to you about the high cage, I just wondering why not make the cage a bit more spacious for the quail ? To give them extra breathing room for space, also easier to clean the cage as well.
@7hilladelphia

Quail rise up fast and strong if startled, breaking their necks but low ceiling cage prevents death. Otherwise make a 5ft high A frame cage or just a 5,6ft high cage they can soar up and safely come down or if a high cage, have things they can land on, up high
@ReynaxisSolutions
@ReynaxisSolutions 2 жыл бұрын
If you give them more space, they will have more legroom to roam around. They will spend energy that should be best reserved to laying eggs. The more energy they spend, the more they will eat. The more they eat because they are moving around, the more feeds you will buy. It's a bit unethical but that's just how things are.

Increasing side length also increases chances of eggs cracking before reaching the end of the slide, so basically the only option is less birds per cage, or invest in more cages.

Dexter, please find a way to add ventilation (hint: fans) to your animal housing. I have worked many years in commercial chicken houses and there was always large fans placed to cool the animals. They can die from heat prostration . They won't eat properly either. Don't get them too fat, as this also increases their body heat. I am trying to give you good hints. I am glad you are finding good success so far. Wish you the best.

That' s a great Idea but i also would go for maximum of 4 quail per Quadratmeter. Also add a sandbath and some hiding opportunities. Oh and don't forget this wire ground is not good for them their little feet get stuck use wood chips, ground or grass if you have the opportunity. If you offer them a happy life they can live up to 4-8 years. They will be very thankful and will give you in spring, summer and autumn everyday eggs. Hopefully it helps :)

quails require far more protein in their food than chickens (hence why people use game bird mix to feed them)

yea, its give and take, a smart farmer like him will insure the birds are comfortable enough and they are healthy, everyone likes free range but as he said they aren't nearly as productive, for eggs or for meat as they are more active so they are burning off that good fat, meat not as tender and will not lay as many eggs...

I'd expect the open wire care is most hygienic as the poop falls through rather than getting caught in a bedding and then they are laying on it.

I don't know how this guy can produly present his farm. Quails walking on grid floors with a little amount of space isn't something I would be proud of.
@apgfeb14
@apgfeb14 2 жыл бұрын
You must not know much at all about quails. Either you do a very short under 1 ft cage. or you go to a 6 ft cage. Quail spook and fly straight up at the sky, if they dont have 6 ft of space, or under 1 ft, they have enough force to break their own necks. The grid floors allows waste to easily get away from the birds, which is obviously better then having them sit in it. Educate yourself before you make a fool of yourself.

@@apgfeb14 I raise mine in an open pen. Saying you cant raise them on the ground is not true. I dont disagree with raising them in pens as my mentor raises hers by the thousands in small pens. To each his own. I have a smaller farm with around 200 quail all living on the ground in an open habitat. I also raise chukar and two kinds of pheasants in the same manner. Adding I always enjoy Dexters World and have learned many things watching his videos.

On deep litter the quails can scratch and huddle. The litter stays completely dry and it only has to be changed once a year, if the birds have a bit more space. Only the collecting of the eggs is a bit more work, but it's worth it.

@@apgfeb14 height is correct, but numbers contained MUST have more space each, sunshine and fresh grass daily for quality of life AND nutritional quality of eggs.
