There aren’t too many original owner cars around. I try to document them when I get a chance. Her son maintains the car now.

In '69 took a used '68 Charger in that gorgeous metallic turquoise color home to my Mom to see if she wanted it, but Dad said too much $$$$... it had white top and white interior! 318, 2 bbl., automatic... $2595... only thing I didn't like was those '68 seats 02:15 that looked like they had been sliced open by a knife...

@barfoonisland2003 I get your sentiment,,, but I have a 1971 Challenger convertible with a 440 and compared to my 2013 Challenger with a 3.6L,,,, the old stuff sounds and runs better in a straight line,,, but beyond that,,, the new stuff is WAY better handling, way better NVH, and economy is simply no comparison.... so, I WISH they would go back and do a modern copy of the 68 Chargers like they did the Challenger and we'd be living the dream!

actually the opposite is true. cars in the 60's and 70's were worn out by 100k if you were lucky. they rattled, rotted, burned oil and leaked water around the windows, got crappy gas mileage and were death traps. i'm not familiar with the chargers of the era but the camaros, gto's, chevelles, etc were pretty junky after only a few years. they rode and handled pretty poorly and as for performance, todays 6 cylinders would beat a lot of those v8's. but the styling of that era was awesome and you could sleep in the back seat.

As the conversation of your questioning continued, sure enough it turned out that she is a gear-head. A sensible gear-head behind the wheel. Another nice part of her story is that she stated of her husband liking the car too. It's a beautiful car, and another that I had admired during my pre-teen youth. And it's hard to really believe in about three and a half years from now, that car will be sixty years old.

I would have bought one new in 68( was a baby then), because of the looks and having owned one later on, it was a comfortable car to drive. It fit my body perfectly.

I grew up in Buffalo. These cars rusted terribly. The quarter panels at the bottom and around the hood and under the landau material. But, we loved them. I was just a kid at the time.

Kinda cool and rare to see a standard column shift on an RT model instead of the usual 4 speed on the floor. Just imagine if she had oredered a matching blue interior!

I am a 67 Chevy Chevelle guy. I love those cars, but if I had a pristine Chevelle, I would trade for that car…. Immediately.

Our Scoutmaster, Mr Sumee had a 68 Charger with the black grille. Apple green body. Not sure what he had for a engine in it. We rode down to the Jamboree in Crete, Illinois in 69. I thought it was the sharpest car I had ever been in. Really fond memories of those days. I still have a soft spot for Chrysler's of that era.
