Over seventy percent of homes in the United States have a species of mold present, and this trend is only expected to rise. This statistic becomes even more alarming when we consider that mold can affect individuals with autoimmune conditions and neurodegenerative diseases and lead to chronic inflammation, fatigue, and brain fog. Today's guest is here to dive deep into the topic of mold, educate us, and ultimately empower us to take action to keep ourselves and our families safe.
Today, on The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru sits down with Michael Rubino to discuss the increasing prevalence of mold in our homes and the reasons behind it. Michael highlights the four most toxic mold species, what should raise concern for us, and the top three actions we can take to protect ourselves. He also reveals the results of Dhru's Dust Test and guides us through methods of removing mold from our homes.
Michael Rubino is the Founder of HomeCleanse, President of the Change the Air Foundation, and Host of the Never Been Sicker podcast. With a background in construction and remediation, Michael noticed flaws in the industry's approach to mold remediation, leading him to establish HomeCleanse. As a council-certified Mold Remediator, he specializes in helping immunocompromised individuals with mold exposure reactions. His upcoming book, set for release in 2024, serves as a comprehensive guide to mold remediation, reflecting his dedication to improving global indoor air quality.
In this episode, Dhru and Michael dive into:
-Mold is the number one toxin in the home
-What is the source of mold that most people are dealing with
-Memorable client testimonials
-When there is a cause for concern and what to look for
-The four most toxic molds
-How mold damages our body through self-preservation
-Why some people are more impacted by mold than others
-How do you know if you have mold in your home
-How the Dust Test works and Dhru’s test results
-Top three actions you can immediately take to protect yourself
-The top sources of water damage in homes
-How to remove mold
-How Michael started his journey
-Incentives that perpetuate lack of accountability and remediation
-Bacteria and their impact on your health
-Naturally detoxing your body and simple actions you can take

Mold is serious, and by using an air filter, and doing regular mold detox cleanses, can go a long way towards preventing mycotoxins from causing health issues.

Excellent (yet alarming) podcast. Michael is obviously very knowledgeable about this topic; speaks and explains everything very well. And as usual Dhru, you've asked the questions your audience wants to know. One thing not mentioned was the mold that grows inside front-load washers ... this is a horrible problem for me; despite the fact I have tried to do everything right. The thought of "cleaning" your clothes in an appliance that's infested with mold is disgusting ... I wish the manufacturers could get this problem solved!

I’ve been so deathly ill for the last year and a half it literally almost took my life and I couldn’t find anything that was resembling the sicknesses that I was going through and I finally realized that it was the condenser in my car that Subaru refused to replace after they said my warranty ran out because they gave me the runaround for so long that yeah my warranty ran out eventually and they wouldn’t wouldn’t budge and wouldn’t replace it but by that time I was so sick I was bedridden I would kidney failure. I was dying. I’d arteries hardening I mean the list goes on. It was just complete Hell and yeah, so just wanted to say thank you guys for bringing light to the subject that is often in a very dark dark place as we know thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. I’m going to be posting and sharing this and bringing this out to people as well because enough is enough, especially with the businesses that are backing, their products or their services or whatever it might be shame on them for doing things like this to people landlords included.

The term they were looking for is "denature." What denatures mold? This means to dissolve it to the point where it is no longer toxic. I saw a commercial product that claimed to denature allergens. It was a laundry soap. With mold, to kill it means to stop it from producing spores. But what denatures existing mold so that it is no longer toxic?

My apartment building has suffered 3 large water leak episodes within the last 2 1/2 years. One was the derecho that crossed Iowa, and tore 4 large holes in our roof. Also shattered several windows. I live 3 floors below one of those holes, since reroofed completely. My exterior wall was totally soaked, and a 1 foot wide strip of the carpet in from wall. I was evacuated 4 months being charged for 24 hr/day heaters/dehumidifiers to dry me out. The other issues the building had were sprinkler system pipe breaks due to incompetent remediation that did not restore insulation when we subsequently had subzero weather. Our dinning room, one of 2 laundry rooms for whole building, and the atrium all had floods that resulted in 2 or 3 weeks of heaters/dehumidifiers. We are the cheapest of several retirement housing developments in our city. I hope to goodness we are done with broken pipes! Building is at least 30 years old. A few residents remember when our hill was farmland.

I was in the medical field and you are extremely knowledgeable, I’ve never had a doctor cure the condition Every condition has inflammation, but only a few treatments considered treating it, I studied diabetes and no one that has it ever had the inflammation of the liver, kidneys or gallbladders that could cause it, I’ve read of the mold and the harm, ventilation is a cause and your study is the most important, keep up the good work, I have a solar power unit to keep the moist from the attic, don’t stop your study, thank you ❤

I wish he would have gave examples of products to use in wet spaces like bathroom tiles etc. on the regular to keep them mold free. Also he never mentioned what to use to clean the caulking prior to removing it so you don’t spread those sores when you cut it out.

This all makes sense. Natural fabrics are known to breath, keep you cool when warm and warm when cool. All the synthetic fibers now days just consolidate moisture and dont let it out. Thus mold flourishes. Ive always been attracted to natural materials, the way it feels, behaves. It’s a living thing. Living things can defend themselves. If a material is already dead, it has no defenses, it attracts bad things and becomes a receptacle for them.

They very likely did not. However if it does not get more moisture, it likely won't grow. It needs dark, dampness. If it is dry, it should still be removed. The spores can travel and pop up in other areas of your home.

Thankyou for making this video…I think mold is in the air from a hurricane that hit right here 4 years ago. Still respiratory problems, brain fog (as you say). My husband kept ALL my clothes…I’m happy to walk away from it all, buy a very small place and just be happy. Even my cancer came back (after 7 years all cleared & supposed to be cured). We live close to the Gulf of Mexico…the air isn’t the same. I think there’s lots to be disclosed.
