The Country is facing a shortage of fuel and food. The foreign reserves have fallen down by 70%, inflation has increased by 25% in a month and the debts have increased up to 4 Billion Dollars! But how did the country reach this extreme situation? What is the government's response to this? How is India helping Sri Lanka? I talk about all these things in this video.

@@Cherry-sg4zg I won't say it was a bad decision buy India because at that time India was not in a situation to adopt neither a capitalist approach like to submit to the market forces nor to adopt the socialist structure. So I would say mixed economy was an ideal decision.

Sri Lanka is facing the same situation of what Indonesia had faced in 1997. The reason was - too much dependency on foreign goods. Any country with good landscape must self sufficient for all basic survival.

I live in sikkim, and as you mentioned about organic sikkim, yes it is there but not sufficient. So we are still are dependent on fruits and vegetables from outside the state. But it is sufficient for the farmers, and their village, also they sell it for good price.

China might have used the debt trap diplomacy but for the current financial turmoil, the bad policies of srilankan government is only responsible, china might have jeopardized the sovereignty of srilanka and the rate of interest are not as high as other lenders.

It's not about cheap rates, because cheap rates are themselves the trap! The problem is what they do if the loan taker fails to pay it back. China intentionally funds African and Asian countries large amount which they cannot pay back but their greedy leaders take the loan because they look at short term convenience and only personal enrichment.

@@Ashishjaj The bigger problem is not the amount of loan, but the cost and repayment terms. SL government requested a restructure, which means modifications of loan terms, which China rejected. At this moment, China is ready with the second tranche of financing, knowing fully well SL is in no position to repay on time.

Yes the government did a good job in educating and spreading awareness about organic farming to all the farmers before implementing it. But I think the produce even today is under par, and the crops are very prone to disease. Last year some 1000 guava trees dies because the organic pesticide wasn't effective and oranges also failed this time.
