Copy from @evanwest6027: "For everyone getting the windows 10 error. I found a solution. On the little arrow beside the play button go to configure. This will pull up setting. For everyone getting the windows 10 error. I found a solution. On the little arrow beside the play button go to configure. This will pull up setting. Go to runner options and select proton 7.0 and you can also select the advanced tab so you can click winetricks. Not sure if winetricks do anything or not though. Hope this helps

Thx for the walkthrough very easy. If you encounter problems with wine after launching the game (as i did), simply change the wine runner to lutris-GE-Proton8-7 and VKD3D to 2.8 and it should work.

doesnt work as of June 19th. followed instructions exactly. "unsupported version of windows" error pops up when trying to launch game from steam. I think Blizzard patched it.

Make sure to restart your steam deck once you download the game (If you can't open Battlenet)! That's what fixed an issue with me not being able to open Battlenet from the steam deck game menu.

This didn't work. :( It didn't ask me anything about mono and then when I try to launch bnet it says I don't have a compatible wine, it says I need some fsync capable version and wont start.

Followed steps verbatim and never received a pop up to install the “wine mono package” compatible wine version. Was able to get Lutris and battlenet installed no problem, but receive wine/windows compatibility errors when I launch Diablo 4. Changing the compatibility settings in steam does nothing. How do I manually do the wine install?

And thanks to steam input you can easily reconfigure your buttons. Hopefully some nice community configs emerge. Get that dodge on a back button and let Diablo switch to mouse and keyboard (game switches seamlessly) when touching the trackpad, because managing the inventory is soooo much nicer with the trackpad. So something like an action layer with triggers as clicks, shift on a back button to compare, space to mark as junk. All that good stuff. Then back to fighting, move your left stick and you're back to controller mode

an advice for the 64GB people. install all of these things on your SD card (find a guide that shows how to install lutris on the SD card as well) 64GB will be used up fast in terms of updates for the steam deck it self.

I just add launchers as Non-Steam games to Steam. There's no need for third-party apps like Lutris

The purpose of Lutris here is not necessarily as a launcher, but to simplify the install process. Many applications still need workarounds and manual steps to make them work under wine. Lutris supposedly does that for you (I don't know how well it works, haven't used it in a while).

@@seeibeYep, in case the program needs any extra dlls, or any hacks needed to get a game working on Linux lutris will try to do them for you, or tell you if manual intervention is needed. Before proton was a thing we used to say that if something didn't work on lutris it didn't work on Linux, and that's still kind of true.

@@seeibe I added GOG, Origin, Uplay, Epic, IndieGala, Amazon, Rockstar and Itch to Steam, I never had to do anything than download their games to have them work. So beats me what it's good for All things I hear about Lutris have always been sorta vague. Supposedly, it can install disk-bases games for you as well, but those never work for me. I need to use no CD patches either way so I might as well use Steam. Part of the issue might be that Lutris doesn't recognize German versions of games. Is that possible? At least that would explain why it never worked for me despite game-specific install scripts existing

@@Thornskade I mainly use my Humble Bundle games collection and GOG with Lutris (and those from my Lutris account). The advantage is, that this manages all other launcher and games into a single application. The unification is what I like about Lutris most. I also would like to use itchio too, but it does not allow me to download games other than those I own (meaning no games like Super Tux Kart can be downloaded with itchio, because I cannot own this free game).

This is pretty much the same method I've used to play Diablo 2 Resurrected for a couple months, and for the Diablo 4 Server Slam. I am seriously considering picking up Diablo 4 due to how well it ran on the Deck. I couldn't put it down during the beta!

It works better if you exit steam, at the very least you have to restart steam to get it to show up If you use lutris to add a shortcut to steam, it will not launch the lutris UI, so it doesn't take resources in the background. This is also true for desktop shortcuts etc created in lutris. It does start the game the same way that lutris does it, so basically lutris will act more like a wrapper script, similar to how gamescope, mangohud etc work. All the settings you may have applied to the game inside lutris will indeed count

Was debating diablo on PC or Xbox till you said they gave it controller support. Diablo 3 was annoying on the steam deck without the support.

Great guide for install. Have you come across an issue where the deck fails to initialise D4 (even on Proton Experimental) because it says it can't recognise the GPU? Very frustrating! I've not found a fix yet!

I got to 2:20 then I got this error: runtime error no path can be generated for dxvk because no version information is available. Anyone able to help? Ive tried to redo it about 4 times, sometimes deleting all files in the directory, sometimes not. Still no progress.

Please forgive me if the question is obvious. Once BNET is installed and added to steam games. Can you install and run other games like Diablo 3 straight through Deck mode or do you still have to go back into desk top?

When i go to launch the game it kicks me out and says "You need at least windows 10 version 1909" , followed this perfectly..... Edit: fixed it by forcing wine to run proton 8.0-2

The installation keeps stopping for me and the last line says "Exit with return code 136." No idea why I am getting this, there isn't much you need to do before starting the install so why am I seeing this message and other people don't? I am installing to the same directory and following the steps exactly as described.

How do you update battle net when updates get pushed? If you do it through the app my game crashes with qt errors
