My car 2013 Elantra would sometimes struggle to turn on. The lights were on but the rpm would go high around 2-3 and then hit zero. Or just go high to 2-3 and then go down to 0 and back up to 1 but it wasn’t as smooth as it should have been doing it. The First time it happened I took it to auto zone. so they can run the machine and hopefully it can rule out things like the battery, crank starter, etc. Everything came back clear and in good condition. It was starting to become a more frequent thing the whole rpm dilemma when I would turn on the car. I kept riding the vehicle for like a month or so like that. I took it to the dealership they had no idea. I did get the oil change (it was pasted due so I thought maybe it was just a problem with that plus I read a comment saying that was the problem with their car but nope!) it felt better once I turned on the car but the second time I turned on my car I knew it was still struggling when I would turn it on. I decided to do my research and I thought maybe I had to clean the throttle. But then my car turned off randomly at a red light. It turned back on thankfully but when I was driving the mph was working but my Rpm was at 0. I Looked into some videos and I wasn’t sure if it was the throttle or the crankshaft sensor. I was going to do both. The crank sensor goes for 80 in the auto zone and 20 in Amazon. However, it was going to take 4 days to get here and I couldn’t wait that long. I read the reviews on Amazon and some described exactly what happened to me happened to their Electra as well. so I knew it had to be the crankshaft sensor. I was so happy! I was able to have someone swap out the piece for me. It’s honestly a 4 min job and saves you so much money. In many places, it goes for 200 and up (without the piece) and about 75 and up (with you buying the piece yourself). Regardless I save a lot of money. Thank you everyone for your videos/comments!

Exact same problem on my wife's 2013 Elantra GT. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Going to change the part and lube the connection with dielectric grease. Stupid Hyundai! Never again!

2013 Hyundai Elantra engines that were built overseas are faulty. The one's built in Alabama are fine. I had to replace my engine 2 years ago and Hyundai paid me back about half of what it cost.

I had the same problem too. Simply replace Your Crankshaft position sensor. I did it and it worked

@@benjaminpease5297 Hyundai dealership is bunch of greedy morons. They don't even know how their cars run. My friend got a Honda that's out of warranty and the dealership checks the whole car for free at every oil change. They tell him if anything needs to be fixed. Hyundai on the other hand. You tell them there's an issue and they still can't diagnose shit. They will tell you the car is running fine. They don't even know the common problems in their cars.

Was this the sensor underneath your vehicle? Or the one immediately visible once removing your engine cover, on the right side of it? I’m seeing conflicting info online. I have a 2014

I have the same problem but I hear a loud grinding noise from the alternator / belt as well , usually before it stalls. Any ideas what could cause this ? I have an Elantra 2012 .

Techs couldn’t understand the issue the only thing I could think of that had a small chance to fix it was oil change . I was 1000km over . Somehow this fixed the problem and haven’t had an issue since I get oil changes on time

Just go to an AutoZone and see if they'll give you a free computer reading. Call around to different Autozone or auto parts supply stores like Napa see which one can give you a reading that's local to you. Get a diagnosis first most places like that do it for free or there may be a charge it's usually under twenty bucks. If the car is still under warranty take it to your local dealership they're not supposed to charge you for a diagnosis because it's just a matter of plugging in their computer to your cars internal computer. Ask them for the printout. If your dealership quotes you ridiculous price to actually fix it then get at least three opinions from three different mechanics that are not connected with that dealership another words go to a different mechanic shop like Pep Boys or Tire Kingdom they also have car computer readers that can plug into your car make sure that they clear the computer before doing a reading to get an accurate reading after the first reading. Sometimes it can be as simple as a problem with car battery affecting the alternator or the belt that controls the alternator might need to be replaced. Or the alternator itself . But before you have any work done at all make sure it is diagnosed first. And make sure that they give you a printout. And always always get a written estimate before you give your approval to start work. That way you don't have a mechanic taking advantage of you.

It could also be the idle air control valve (not in your cause but stalling when coming to a stop)
