I bought these superb Yamaha HS7 studio monitors to help with making KZfaq videos but 18 months on one has developed a slight crackle to it. In this video I look further into the problem to ⬇️💥⬇️ Links Below & Donations ⬇️💥⬇️ find out if its the main speaker driver or more worryingly the internal active amplifier.

If you click "SHOW MORE" in the description above your be able to see Links to the Tools 🔧🔨🔧 I use. Also Clickable Chapters📋 📙 throughout the video and other Links 🎬 that may be of interest. I've had a few viewers request where they can buy the tools they see in some of my videos but it's not very clear that the "SHOW MORE" tab has a lot of information in that may be of interest. Admittedly the amazon links are associated with me and I would earn a small commission which helps towards keeping the channel funded.

Hey thank you for this video , I had same issue with one of my hs7’s and sent it to get fixed and they replaced a woofer and sent it back and I still had same low level distortion but just sent it back again to them saying it might be a faulty drive unit . Hope it works thanks for info and insight

Hey great video, did you end up replacing the driver of the one speaker? If so Did you notice any sonic difference in the new one vs the old one? I'm having a rattling sound coming from one of my speakers and after tearing them down like you did I found the rattle was coming from somewhere inside the Suspension/coil. Can I get away with replacing just one or do you think I should replace both to maintain the same sonic qualities. Great video btw you should make more!
@CoatsandGaiters
@CoatsandGaiters 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I replaced the faulty driver and all is great now. I think some speakers can come as a 'matched pair' but i think that tends to be very high end gear. So replacing both drivers I can't see any advantage with as the replacement driver will be from some random stock sat in a warehouse that was made possibly a few years ago. I'm assuming this rattle was from the suspension coil but I don't really want to tear the driver apart as it still work perfectly fine at louder levels. It was only just audible at low levels to me. Part of me want's to sell the old driver for cheap (as faulty) just to recover some costs as most people probably wouldn't notice what I heard. Did you take your driver apart?
@ddrum121
@ddrum121 3 жыл бұрын
@@CoatsandGaiters Yea that's what I was thinking as far as the matched pairs go. And no I didn't take the driver apart, it seems like it would be more effort than just buying a new one because of all the glue holding the cone/suspension coil to the frame. I'll most likely end up using the cone as a sub-kick mic since the rattling I have is only at high volumes.

Cool vid thanks. I have the HS5's. Out of nowhere the low end on both got drastically lower, to the point it almost sounds like there's no bass. I got these less than a year ago and haven't abused them in any way, I can't play music too loud in my room so I've always played them at a very conservative level, so I'm trying to figure out how this happened to both monitors at the same time. Maybe they've always been this low and I never noticed? Lol either way listening to music without low end is very weird. Do you think I should send them in to get checked out? I rather not open them myself as I never have and don't want to mess them up in any way. Thanks
@CoatsandGaiters
@CoatsandGaiters 2 жыл бұрын
I know 'monitor' speakers tend to have little bass as they are for hearing the sound source as accurately as possible. Unusual for both to do the same so I'm just wondering if your used to normal hifi speakers that tend to have a tuned deeper bass for listening pleasure over these which deliver very little bass anyway. If I were one playing differently I'd be suspicious but for both it would have to be that they are either the way they are being monitors or the signal being sent at fault.

Hey thank you for the video. I think my monitor has the same issue. I bought mine in 2019 or so… probably out of warranty. Any idea what the cost for repair will run or suggestions on repairing through local outfit? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Can share video showing the difference btw the two.

I'm assuming if I watched this video with the audio coming out of my Hs7's, and the part with the repaired speaker playback sounded crisp and clear high/mid vs the initial fuzzy/muddy playback, then it's safe to assume mine are operating as they should yeah?

thanks for the video. I've got pair of HS8s, about 3 months old, everything seems fine, but if I crank the volume up excessively with low 808 notes, they slightly distort. is this normal? I feel kinda stupid asking but its just I never noticed that with my old KRK 8s

Sorry I wouldn't know as I never have mine up loud after damaging my ears listening to loud music. Mine barely go above loud voice level. I'm not sure that the Yamaha's are that good to be honest. Personally if I bought reference speakers again I'd go with a different make after having to replace a drive unit for no reason other than poor manufacturing.

Thank you for the video sir! I bought a pair of these monitors and unboxed them today. However, after unboxing them, I noticed that the studio monitor had a color fade in the corners. My question to friends who have purchased this product is if this is possible with a brand new product? Did you guys notice something like this after unboxing? The discoloration is minor and grayish. However, it is minimal in both the top and bottom corners. Is it possible that the product is not brand new?

Seems like a stretch to ask but I am somewhat desperate at this point. A year ago I dropped my HS8 speaker on its XLR input and it completely shattered in the input board. I bought a new one and installed it and it worked very well. Months later I played my bass a little too loud via direct interface and my speaker turned off (left one was fine). I noticed movement or tapping the speaker would cause it to turn on and off. Any chance you would know what would cause the speaker to be sensitive to touch? Fuse appears fine.

Could be a solder joint come loose. Sometimes the copper track on the circuit board can be pulled away with the component. You may need to inspect all the solder joints.

Greetings, I just bought a brand new JBL 305p MK2 and it was playing very great first 2 days but today Its just playing at an insanely low level that i can barely hear. It's also making popping sounds here and their. Im still hearing bass but im hearing a loud Hiss noise when i put my hear close to the tweeters. Sometimes when i turn the volume knob at the back of the speakers up and down, after a while it will just start playing fine for a few minutes and then a pop and it start playing low again... Which makes me to believe maybe their is a loose wire of something inside the speaker? Im not an audio technition but I would appreciate your advice. Thank you
