Diagnosing stator Failure on my Yamaha WR250R

Bike died out riding after work one day. Luckily we were heading back towards the hiway. Had to ride my buddies XT 350 home 25 km to get my trailer. I left him waiting in a thundershower and then blackflies and mosquito's. What a trooper!

Recall on the stator. I got a 2011 Wr250R recently. Was a good find for 1200$ and only 1670 miles on it. But I had issues after replacing the battery. In middle of ride it lost power completely. I let it set for a while and made my way back home. On the way it died again and wouldnt stay running. Rough idle and throttle would kill it and after that I called my local Yamaha and they said my stator was never replaced.

Got the exact same issue. Unfortunately 3 month lead time for stator out of Japan according to Yamaha!

I was hoping you had like 50000 miles on your bike.Mine has 25000 and I think I should replace it before my trip.Thanks for sharing.

Ha ha my dealer replaced it under warranty shortly after I fixed it myself. But I talked him into keeping my part so at least I have a spare now.

It was pretty amazing timing, as it starts sprinkling his bike starts acting up. It stops raining and we go on for another km or so, then the bike totally stopped. So I get my bug shirt out and he hops on the xt350. JUST as he pulls away, it starts pouring like crazy.

You know, putting that stator's housing on that grey cushion thingy right next to it could save the housing from being scratched on that rough grey concrete.....just saying...it's right smack next to it for goodness sakes....

can you explain to me why you changed the stator? which is the fault that let you think of the stator?

i hope u got a refund from yamaha as stator is a recall item. What is the odometer reading when the stator crapped out? do you ride the bike hard to the point the radiator fan turns on? the engine need to run hot often for the stator to burn out like that.

my ttr90e wont spark changed the spark coil waiting on the mail for the cdi box and relay for now

I've just noticed some info on the web that they just seem to die at about 25,000km. My fuel pump is still original at 33,000km where I heard many fail every 15,000km. I know there was a problem with the 2008 model year fuel pumps. Best to keep enough gas in the tank to cool the pump.

What year is your we? I’m having similar trouble except now when I go to start it won’t turn over and my spark plug doesn’t have no spark at all even after I replaced the spark plug still the same outcome

if your battery is charged then maybe check your CDI/Ignition coils?

I took the FJR 1300, 140 hp. Wow what a bike, I really liked it and found it easy to manage. Sure played with that electric powered windshield the whole trip! It would be right up there for first choice as my next bike.

sorry to learn about your stator failure. Yamaha has acknowledged this and has a recall notice sent out in Australia, USA and Canada. Hope you kept your receipt and ask for refund on the new stator you bought. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153956446716102&set=gm.1020323521319735&type=1&theater
